Why Seann William Scott Was Never The Same After American Pie

- Seann William Scott is one of those actors who was totally unknown before stepping into an instantly iconic role. Playing Stifler in "American Pie" and its various sequels, Scott found a way to make a borderline sociopathic character more than a little bit lovable, and he earned himself a lasting career in the process. Though he has never achieved the knockout success of the "Pie" movies, it's not for lack of trying. Like many comedic actors, Scott found himself pigeonholed in roles similar to the immortal Stifler. Even so, Scott doesn't seem to be unhappy with the situation, and he's been showing some signs of moving beyond his perpetually juvenile character's limitations. This is why Seann William Scott was never the same after "American Pie."

What's your favorite Seann William Scott role?
Stifler from the American Pie movies 💯
I actually love Bulletproof Monk, it's a guilty pleasure and I can watch Chow Yun-Fat in anything. As far as Scott's best role for me it was his portrayal of Doug Glatt in The Goon movies.
Bulletproof Monk favorite movie 👈.
Wheeler from Role Models, I think him and Paul Rudd are excellent together. He should see about doing more work with Paul Rudd.
Goon
american pie wouldn't have been ass big as it was with out stiffler. he's a legendary actor in his role.
stiffler and the milf guys dont forget about them lol
Obviously! Every single American Pie spinoff is based off a Stifler character. Steve Stifler started that all!
That’s his mom lol
Just an idea for a movie: Stiffler meets Thad (Blue Mountain State) in Las Vegas, they become fast friends while getting into shenanigans in Las Vegas....
Right 👍
SEANN WILLIAM SCOTT, despite many movie failures, was the most successful of all the original American Pie cast members, and is an underrated actor imo; comedic gold & found him to be the stand-out in many of his films.
nah I will say Allison hannigan
Alison hannigan all day bro.
Allison was a child actor from the 80s. She was always going to make it.
Before american pie hannigan was more successful. Afterwards though....Scott killed it.
Jason Biggs will always be the guy who shagged the pie
He would have made a great 'Peter Quill'.
Not that I don't like Chris Pratt, but now that I imagined it, I can't un-imagine it anymore OMG 😮
Chris pratt and ryan reynolds had a baby and it was sean william scott. He needs to be given a chance to really show off his acting potential
And a great Wally west or bart Allen
So true
@@gutierreztristan5 he has and proved it. Unfortunately people can only see him as Stifler. No matter how different a character he plays, people only see him as that character and thinks he always plays that character in all of his movies which is untrue
He would have been amazing as Deadpool. If Ryan Reynolds wasn't DP I would be praying for Seann William Scott. He would be perfect for that role too.
YES!
Ryan Reynolds is a bigger star than him
@@nsasupporter7557 yes. thanks tips.
@@nsasupporter7557 It ain't about who the bigger star is
DC Booster gold
I don't understand how you can just glaze right over Goon like that? The movie is awesome and highly underrated.
seriously though, two fucking lines for a great pair of movies in which he definitely broke type cast
Goon was his best movie IMO -- really good!
Alright I'll watch it on this recommendation
Goon was his best movie, highly underrated
I know right ?! Goon is so good.
He was great in American Pie but I still think his best performance was in Dude Where's My Car.😀
Great role. I liked him in role models too. So funny.
Shibby!
@@turkeyman888 “and thaaaaaaaan!”
@@turkeyman888 😀
@@nsasupporter7557 😀
Role models was funny as fuk too...he a goat
That still holds up. 😂
He was one of the funniest and most memorable actors of 2000-2010 .
Well he deserved to be, he wasn’t though
Facts
Goon is phenomenal, swc is absolutely amazing in it. It and him deserve way more time.
Doug smith who wrote the book is a friend of mine !
Loved that movie.
Totally underrated, as evidenced by the fact they just glossed over it.
Hands down I loved goon and I don't even watch or play hockey lol you know being a Texan and all
Amen brotha ,prolly his best movies
personally, its not just because his acting in american pies, but because his figure, especially his face fits very well with the character he played.
American pie would have been zip with out him. He made those movies. IMO.
I don't know about that, You need Jim as the lead, Jim's dad, Michelle and Stiffler as your key characters.
I really liked Bullet Proof Monk. I felt it was kind of an under dog story that was appealing.
Had no idea it was based on a comic book. Interesting
Same. I came here just to see if it was mentioned. Movie is very underrated.
@@_NEWN_ Seann William Scott is very underrated. In reality He’s a great actor, but unfortunately people aren’t observant enough to see he can play other characters besides Stifler
@@nsasupporter7557 agreed!
@@_NEWN_ the only other movie where he played a character that was semi similar to Stifler was Road Trip. But that was a stupid movie
Good for him!! To have an acting career you get to pick what roles to want to play. Right on Seann.
He actually has the perfect career. He’s not a big star by any means, but he has a career where he can pick his roles. Being a huge star like Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise would be too much
It's always sunny in Philadelphia
I like his movies. Goon, American Apple Pie movies, Cop Out, Dukes of Hazzard, Bullet Proof Monk. Road Trip. They all good.
@@rockerrockstar “American Apple Pie” LOL 😂
It’s just “American Pie” 😉
Sean William Scott is a great actor with no chance to show his talent.
His cameo in Old School was priceless.
Stifler, McLovin, Gilligan, etc. When people know you primarily by a character name you're probably in for a rough time breaking out of that.
you're going to have a rough time to break out of those roles, but it also shows just how well these actors have the ability to portray a character. Given the right role they definitely can portray any character given to them, just need a good opportunity. I think Scott is feeding into his role as Joe in welcome to flatch beautify
True but Sean has had the biggest movie career out of the American Pie cast. It all worked out.
Bulletproof Monk is under rated
He would be a perfect DC hero Booster Gold
Sure would
Hmmm Hmmm, idk. DC is kinda rocky still. I rather he play in Marvel as some Character. May have a better outcome for his career. If he plays Booster Gold, he's kinda stuck doing Booster Gold even if DC screws up like they are prone to doing right now. He may be better off playing a character in another suicide squad for DC in my opinion. Idk which yet but I can see him being someone in Suicide Squad. There is tons and tons of Characters on the list of captured villain's or criminals that make up suicide squads.
That’s good casting.
What about Johnny Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four Movie?
and every one will like him!!!
This man deserve so much more than he has gotten.
To get a raving review from Roger Ebert himself is Legendary!
Hey! The rundown was amazing!
“So so - the Rundown” that movie was great
In the UK it was called 'Welcome to the jungle'
Dude i bumped into him at a bodega in brooklyn. I was stunned to see him and i forgot his name so i could only remember stiffler. I now realize he probably hates that.
The only line I distinctly remember from "Evolution", is Scott's "Ka-kaw, Ka-kaw!". In context, it's just too fricken funny 😄
I remember watching Goon, and near the end of it I was like "Wow, I like this movie. He's a good guy enjoying this game" I'm shocked I didn't know or don't remember a sequel to this.
I remember being a senior in high school and watching American Pie on opening weekend. Everybody was there and for teenagers it was a must see movie. Man that was a good time 😂
The rundown is one of my favorite movies of all time
So-so?!?!? The rundown is awesome
Awesome love these
I actually loved his performance in Bloodline
Yeah, good to see him play a character totally different
@@nsasupporter7557 for sure!!
@@AH-qg2jt not saying he plays the same character, but this character was way different
@@nsasupporter7557 Yeah I went into it without expectations and at the end of it I was like wow, he can actually act!
@@AH-qg2jt I already knew he could act. He doesn’t play Stifler in all the movies he’s in like everybody thinks he does
its been 2 Decades?! I still remember renting a vcd online to watch with my brothers when it came out. Time flies
Will always be one of my favourite characters ever. Just so perfectly portrayed, shaped a lot of our friends’ group humour 👍
You mean favorite actors?
Goon and it's sequel were terrific. I've enjoyed every one of Scott's roles, he is very talented and underappreciated.
20 years later and he's still my idol
I love watching him. Road trip was ace
He’s always been one of my favorite actors. Just seems like a super funny person to hang out with
I loved both the Rundown and Bulletproof Monk growing up… Would love to see a sequel to both!!!
he is such a talent actor...and Goon was RAD!!!
I actually liked Bulletproof Monk. Sean's character of Kar was pretty relatable, and he and Chow Yun Fat made a good team
I love Sean 😭 he never fails to make me laugh and cry lol hope to see more of him soon
Goon was an exceptional hockey film series. Thanks Seann!!
The Run down was fantastic.
He's one of my favorites. I wish he were in more.
back in 1999 same year when i'm in senior year in HS, my childhood was awesome because of him tho .. AP 1-2 and the wedding are so great that I watch it when I feel empty then after a couple of years and reunion released, feels like im back from my good old days .. American Pie is nothing without Stifler who portrait by the man itself Scott .. and again he makes my childhood awesome ..
Seann William Scott is a legendary actor that fits his role perfectly... His role in "Road Trip" is definitely underrated, American Pie 1 and 2 were legendary and the Stiffmeister is one of the reasons why!
Sean William Scott accidentally hitting his own Junk with the Firefighter Water Hose was hilarious AF on that “Evolution” movie. 😂
Ow! My Balls!
The promotion, woodcock and role models are personal favorites.
I wish him the best.
absolutly luv this guy
He’s still one of my favorite comedians and I’ll watch any movies he’s in
As much as I enjoy the American Pie films, I actually prefer his work outside that. I absolutely love 'The Goon' movies, his work on Lethal Weapon, Bulletproof Monk, Role Models, I even really enjoyed him in The Dukes of Hazzard movie. He deserves much more credit than he gets.
Did you see Bloodline?
I feel it need to be mentioned Scott's 2013 best roll ever on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". Season 9 episode 5 as County Mac. A true Badass. May you rest in peace, County Mac.
Dudes, he’s into dudes. 🤣
Loved southland tales. Can't believe it wasn't huge even if just for the amazing cast
Thanks for the great job--interesting, thoughtful, informative, entertaining.
I enjoyed Goon quite a bit. Sly, witty.
Her: You make me not want to sleep with a bunch of other guys.
Him: That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me." :)
8k for playing the Stifmeister, he’s the only character I remember by name. That & Ostreicher
Nice
I enjoy a lot of his films! In large part because of him. Bullet proof monk is a guilty pleasure and I was sad it didn’t do better. I suggest watching a little film he made called Stark Raving Mad 2002. It’s a great film. If you like Sean look it up. He was great in Goon. Both those films are well worth a watch also.
Bullet proof monk is a good movie
I honestly feel sometimes that American Pie changed the world. I seriously wrote a 10000 word essay on it once
I remember I made a script in drama class for "Canadian Cake".. I wanted a piece of the pie so bad when I was in highschool, good times.
If any of you haven't seen him in Stark Raving Mad, I'd definitely recommend it. Surprised it was not mention in this video.
RIP, Country Mac. You made Project Badass....badass.
I actually really loved Sean Williams Scott in the movie Stark Raving Mad.
Awesome less known direct to video :)
He's an awesome jock goon philosopher. Always pushing boundaries in thoughtful ways.
Jock goon philosopher. hmm
He's really good in a movie called, Just Before I Go. It's a dramedy. There's no trace of his sticker Stiffler personality in it. It's a role that really displays his range of acting ability.
Seann William Scott is great Actor hope see him back on his feet so up 👈🙏🙏👍💯. I think Seann Williams scott should play Booster Gold in booster gold movie DCEU
Yeah, it makes me mad that people think he plays “Stifler” in all his movies… because it’s not true. The only other movie where he played a character semi similar to Stifler was Road Trip
@Jim Ramos did you see Bloodline? He plays a murderer in that movie
@@nsasupporter7557 yeah I did👈
Thats a good idea! I love Booster Gold. SWS would be great at it
@@jmer3536 right 👈 don't you think so think about it
Please bring them back with the same cast in another A.Pie.. I love Sean role ♥️
hey Hey HEY!! The Goon was freaking amazing and he was City Mac in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia! He's doing just fine
Any movie that he makes that matches the style he wants to do will always be amazing
Great actor & great guy who had a crack. Love your work Seann
I loved Bulletproof Monk. As a kid it was one of my favorite movies at the time. I also loved American Pie series and Goon 2011 starring Stiffl- I mean Seann. He's a good actor.
Stiffler is awesome
Wow I really want to see that new show
Charisma is priceless. Roll with it
I thoroughly enjoyed Just Before I Go. Genuinely heartwarming and sad in the same breath.
Stiffler and his mum carried that whole franchise. I hope he got his payday from the AP producers eventually.
The Promotion is heavily slept on. Very underrated film.
That was a cool movie. I couldn’t remember the name until I read your comment.
I like him as an actor. I find him charming and adorable. Very memorable.
Cool video, I always thought he was a good actor that can easily make people laugh. Although he was limited in the roles available to him, he has already had a great career
Goon is a really underrated movie. He was great in that one.
He paid his dues! I think his best is yet to come!
I think Bloodline deserves more credit. Seann, you are awesome and I hope to see you in more roles.
He will always be Stifler to me😍 no matter how old he gets.
gary the tennis coach is maybe the most underrated movie ever
Goon is SUCH a good movie! He's really good in all his roles imo
Lethal Weapons series featuring Sean is actually pretty good, and when i finally saw him as someone else than just Stifler. But man American Pie, wouldn't be the same without him.
Loved him in Stark Raving Mad
I was 16 when American pie came out.It wa my teenage years film i love the most, and stiffler was the character we all loved.I watch American pie to recapture the best days of my life.
I was 12 when it came out. Kevin was the only one from the movie i knew because he was in movies before that when he was a kid
Role Models was great. Goon was great. I even liked Just Before I Go an awful lot. His small role in Old School still cracks me up to this day.
Yeah hes been type cast hard. Love his movie they are classics to me
This guys awesome
The Rundown was a fun remake of the plot of the A-Team.
Loved him in Final Destination and the 2 goon hockey movies.
Didn't he get beheaded near the train tracks in the first film?
Country Mac is so underrated.
South land tales was his most underrated film. And the rocks for that manner.
Role models was awesome
American pie was the series that destroyed band for an entire generation. I actually just talk to a colleague about this a few hours ago in my band room.
Whenever I hear the word "pitch" in regard to a movie idea, I immediately think of Pitch Meetings. 9:50 , but with him, I think it would go just a little differently.
"So, you have an American Pie sequel for me?"
"F*** yeah, I do."
Role Modles is a gem, anyone who hasn't seen it needs to
Because Finch nailed his mom and he never got over it....
Facts I feel that shit was so iconic for hi m back then it was hard for him to turn that switch off
