Hank seems like a total bro, the military is literally busting down the door, but he is still willing to talk with Homer and give him decent advice. Also the family really didn't try very hard, it was like, two days.
Hank Scorpio is ironically the best person in the Simpsons despite the fact he's a literal super villain. He cares for his employees, gives good advice, understanding even in the worst situations and saw value in a man who let a nuclear plant melt down every other week. That's not even mentioning the killer home Homer had, the everyday amenities the Simpsons family could enjoy and awarding initiative of even the newest faces in his organization.
Probably one of the most underrated lines. "I don't like the word boss I don't like anything that elevates me above anyone else" becomes leader of the world.
Imagine how many Bond Villains’ schemes would have succeeded had they had more employees like Homer and less henchmen with metal/golden teeth, unique throwable headwear, diamonds embedded in their faces, and/or trying to sleep with Bond
The pink shirt he was wearing has a small heart on the side of his heart lol and I see it as a metaphor for when Homer was committed for wearing a pink shirt at work and here his boss is wearing one.
No one want to draw comparison to Hank, Elon, and GlobalX to SpaceX.. while being a complete bro, and making a flame throwing.. and its the Simpsons.. wow im actually survived
I know it's always supposed to go back to the status quo, but the family could've solved their problems really easily by just giving Lisa antihistamines, and Marge could home school Bart until he was up to date with all the stuff he didn't know, as it's been proven that Marge is a good teacher and Bart learns better when he's focused and not distracted by his pranks, they could've even hired a private teacher for him, while Marge could do some paintings.
I love all the comments on here talking about how easily managed Bart, Lisa, and Marge's problems could be so they could stay there forever, but Homer leaves like just as the military is busting into his terrorist organization work place to shut it down. If he had stayed another day, surely he would be charged with terrorism. Still one of the best episodes of the Simpsons of all time! And the line: "Sorry it's not in packages" is an underrated gem of a line
How did Homer not end up in Gitmo for aiding a Terrorist leader, lol? Hank was killing American GIs there by the dozens. What part of the country are they in? Idaho?
This episode always made me sad. They had everything they could've wished for. Bart just needed some tutoring, Lisa some allergy meds and Marge a hobby. Homer should've sent them home and went bowling with Hank
@Fee Fee Yeah, but alternatives would be out of character or too tragic. Besides, it's great writing as in that case, the efficiency of Homer is linked to a true vilain, as opposite to a goofy/unrealistic one in Springfield; a realistic place of learning would, indeed, put Bart in a special class, not in a goofy school like Springfield; and for Lisa, Misses tofu and little birds, I find it personnally hilarious that in front of real nature, not the goofy thre eyes fish nature of Springfield, she got allergies...for Marge, it's in character: practicly every episode when she has a full arc for her, it's a "I got something out of my mother figure role and it turns out not good (bretzels, gym class, ect.) Here, she excells at it (everything is clean) and even then, she fails! Truly an upside down epiusode, very efficient on a metaphoric level: in Springfield, everyone feels home, but not Homer. Here, it's the opposite in clever ways.
Yeah, even if they moved back, they should have been rich. But the mise en place would have been damaged if they were. Homer is the everyman, and his fate is to lose money if he gets any. I don't really enjoy this episode, as fun as it is. It just mocks the feelings we all have of living a better life and justifies it with...I don't know, flimsy excuses for being homesick and poor?
Yeah, it's really nonsensical. Marge could have taken up painting again, Lisa just some anti histamines (I mean if Milhouse can cope with it, she can, considering how good the schools are). Bart is the only one who has a genuine grievance, as the school didn't give two shits about him.
@@TheBT I was in Bart's situation once. Does the school not have a point? Anyway, Bart could make the most of that...but he never got that far. Personally I was desperate to get back to my old school, even if there was nothing waiting for me back there.
Marge, get a damn hobby. Lisa, get some medication. Bart, get a tutor. C'mon, their reasons for wanting to leave were pretty goddamn weak. Homer had it MADE working for that bloodthirsty, maniacal supervillain! I love how at the end of the episode you see a newspaper headline saying Scorpio has seized the entire East Coast. I guess I'll always be left to wonder what became of all that.
@gecko. All of the kids problems actually boil down to really bad parenting lol. If Marge was paying attention to her kids she probably wouldn't be sad. Lisa would go see a doctor, Bart could get a pep talk, and maggie could go to the park or something. Really, this entire episode is on Marge for actually being a comically terrible mother. I dunno if that was the intent of the writing, but it's impossible to ignore.
Homer having to give up the job at the bowling alley is sad but at least makes sense since it didn't pay enough to support three children. But here all the problems is so easily manageable: Give Lisa some allergy medicine, give Bart an ultimatum of study harder or stay in the special help class since he needs all the help he can get and for Marge either get a job or hobby and stop complaining.
Yeah, but alternatives would be out of character or too tragic. Here's the thing, Scorpio being a super villain is completely irrelevant to the pot of the episode. The story is: Homer get an ideal job, with a kind boss, in a beautiful community; but the place completely wrecks his family's life, and he decides to prioritize them. That's it. Scorpio being a literal bond criminal is entirely absurdist comedy and without it the "plot" would go completely unaffected. But they play it good, it made this episode one of the most memorable of the entire fucking show.
Is it really irrelevant? For me, this episode makes fun of the uprising silicon-valley-culture. From outside it appears so perfect but within its rotten to the core. CEO portrayed as a super villian is just the cherry on the top, kind of prophetic and allows for some nice pop-culture references
