Zidzislaw Beksinski's artwork has to be some of the most dark, brutal and gut wrenching images ever conceived. They have that certain twisted look to them, by taking familiar things and contorting them in a way that they feel unfamiliar. It's almost Lovecraftian. Thank you for mentioning his artwork here. He is one of the best "disturbing" artists.
i love him, i heard he had a wonderful humor about him and his smile looks always so nice. shame he had to die that way.
Well that's why his work sometimes turns up as thumbnails for creepy pastas.
Literally my favourite artist of all time but I wouldn’t call him lovecraftian i think that kinda takes away merit from his work.
@@Riverside_23 yeah, just dont know how else to describe it.
really he's his own genre, impressive and something to definitely admire.
@@Riverside_23 i just realized you werent talking to me and that i never mentioned lovecraft ina ny of my replies im literally so sorry forgive me
That last one is messed up as hell. It shows when people are given the chance, they will do some nasty shit, even at the cost of someone else.
The last one… my God. She showed us how humans can so unhinged when they have free reign to do whatever they want to a person with no consequences. The fact that someone actually picked up a loaded gun and made her hold it towards herself made my heart sink into my stomach. She knew what she was about to go through and still did it in the name of art.
The psychological effect of the *invitation* should not be overlooked, here. It's not *just* "free reign", there is also the suggestion that whatever you come up with, she actually wants you to do, simply by allowing you to. Her not drawing any lines leaves the question hanging: "is this still okay?", which is the pivotal question on the audience's mind, I'm sure. Imagine you standing there, what would be your reasoning: "She said it's okay. But is this okay? I don't think it's okay, but she said it's okay, and it's her piece....", right? Mind you, all action taken by all people is within the context of the rules laid out by the person standing there. And those rules not only dictate what is allowed, they also dictate what *ought* to happen. The audience is, after all, part of the experiment and therefore carries the burden of having the experiment "succeed" (whatever that may mean). You cannot simply dismiss that, it's *absolutely integral* to the situation.
It's therefore much more an interpersonal and ethical experiment, questioning autonomy within a (fictional) social construct, than anything else, imho. That is also exactly what is wrong with the Stanford Prison Experiment, by the way, which has become a part of folkloric psychological insight, but is proven totally biased and unreliable. Just like many other stubborn myths such as the bystander effect and Golding's Lord of the Flies, which are all a product of the same post-war trauma-induced pessimism. They aren't grand revealing insights into human nature by any means, they are debunked myths.
Proliferation of such myths really isn't very helpful to society, burying people further in a dark and bleak world view than necessary and called for.
So, what's more intriguing to me is what she was trying to explore, and how that was relevant to her, and why it made her sad. However beautiful and intriguing the experiment is, discounting her own psychology from this equation is just as senseless as interpreting this as a reliable social experiment.
(edit) I really liked the video, though, keep it up! :)
“unhinged”
you know this person diagnoses ppl with “being p$ych0” because they eat fucking mayo sandwhiches, this is the sign of someone who equates every crime with “LE INSANITY”
It's horrible how this act showed what it was trying to say so effectively. She didn't interact at all and the audience not wanting to face the consequences of their actions perfectly shows the message the piece was trying to say.
The fact that *nobody* hugged her, told her she was a valuable person, said that she was brave, asked her stop…THAT’S terrifying.
People are sickening. The things those people did to that woman.... Just because you are given license to do something doesn't mean you should. People could have done anything and they all chose to do awful, horrible shit to another human being. I wonder how many were projecting their self hatred and by doing things to her processed them as being done to themselves?
That woman showed us how humanity is breaking. The good side of what would happen, is probably make normal pictures of her, or moving her hands around, or maybe even hug her. But the people, instead, made her like a toy. They hurt her, physically and mentally. They only care about their desire, and not how it will affect other people. She proved, that humanity is broken, and that we are slowly losing our lesson of love.
In my opinion, humanity has been broken from the very start. It sounds cliche as hell, but really humans are animals, nature, and nature is so vastly brutal. We can all tell ourselves and everyone around us that we’ve truly evolved passed that brutality… but it doesn’t take much searching to find evidence of this ancient ‘human nature’ everywhere.
@@NootalieWalf This didn't happen until the fall, in which every sin consumed just by two people is now engrained in every human soul. In which, the world now shows two types of *Homo Sapiens*, Humans, and People. Humans, no matter belief, try to help humanity. Try to be a good influence to others. Try to do good in the world. And then there's People: stupid, narcissistic, greedy, slothful, lustful, wrathful, prideful, envious, gluttonous. All the people who want what THEY want, and do not care about the others. They want to prop themselves up. They want to be gods of the earth. They are the very reason Humanity as a whole is like a cancerous growth, because they speak up louder, and dumb down and indoctrinate others to follow themselves.
Its not "breaking" or "broken". Its how it is, if chimps did the same thing they would rip the woman apart in 20 minutes. If cave men, Romans, Egyprians did the same thing they would probably do the same stuff these people did or maybe even worse
Nah, she is just a moron and people shows to other what a moron deserves...
Humanity is broken since the beginning anyway... But i don't think this proves anything...
It is just like that kid in school that does stupid things for popularity, and people are all "go for it", then laugh at him and he is still not popular...
@@NootalieWalf That is why i don't understand people that worship nature or the world...
I can't help but feel like another important note about the final piece you discuss is that the artist involved is a woman. You could certainly argue there's a lot being said about the way people regard a woman's body; if it were a man, do you think they would've stripped him and groped him? Maybe, but I feel like it would've been far less likely. The bodies of women are treated like decorations and toys, and I feel like the way people responded to her piece is definitely indicative of that.
I think so too. It would be interesting to do the same performance/experiment with a man.
I dunno, i think they would've still done it if it were a man
@@marmalade8915 Someone did to Shia Labeouf. Even went further.
i think if it were a man they would phisically hurt him more, cutting him or something. I would put a bunch of nails on the floor and make him plank over them, if he doesnt stop the performance he will faulter and get impaled.
The fact that there appeared to be condoms on the table of items for the audience to use really adds to this as well. Made my skin crawl when I noticed that
Art can be amazing and moving
And then it can be nightmare fuel and disturbing and sickening
And as an amateur artist I love it
that's why i love art, it can move you in the direction of joy and awe or fear and disgust!
No one covered her back up in all that time ☹️ She displayed such vulnerability and to see that human nature is to hurt, threaten, objectify and humiliate is absolutely heartbreaking, what an amazing piece and show of strength ❤
This was excellent mate 😁 I loved your section on Marina Abramovic as well, she definitely deserves wider attention!
Thanks for the love! Your content is absolutely amazing.
Oh hey blind dweller
The "untitled" piece speaks to me as more of the concept of two people giving so much of themselves to the other person that they both suffer from the neglect of self. I also read it as two humans either so dedicated to each other or two--possibly the last two, people at the end of humanity trying to hold on to it.
I’m surprised my middle school paintings from my doomed phase didn’t show up hahaha
Just added them. Look again.
YOUR INTERPRETATION OF THAT ZDZISLAW BEKSINSKI PIECE IS EXACTLY HOW I INTERPRETED IT, TOO!!!
I love artists like him who make pieces with no real intent or backstory behind them, other than to just create something that could only come from the wildest of nyquil-induced fever dreams. I feel like it leaves it up to the viewer to create their own message from what they're seeing. I think what we interpret from these kinds of images could also say things about us, like where our frame of mind is, how we view society and possibly even where our mental state is and how we feel about ourselves.
I agree with the interpretation of intimacy and love, I thought it was beautiful too!
Thank you all for the endless support. I'd also like to give a thank you to Blind Dweller for the inspiration on this subject.
Additionally, I'd like to thank my amazing team that helped bring this video to life:

Yo, I love this kind of video! Plz do more art related vids!
How is this comment 4 days old if the video is 2 days old
I had found this interesting channel that I think is a Arg the channel name is called eggo tama. It's a Arg about the forgotten Gameboy Tamagotchi game
Feeling especially down today, and perhaps it partially is the gloomy weather. However, I can thank a Knight upload for brightening my day a bit, thanks man!
Hang in there, Internet stranger 💕
I'd never heard of that last one, that is insane! I respect her dedication to art but that was very dangerous. Thanks for the vid man, made my morning!
I had to pause the video when you wished us good mental health. I took it to heart and I want you to know that you helped me tonight. I was in a destructive mood, drinking, I just wanted to escape into this topic, but you changed it to make me feel better... Thank you brother! 💖
I think with Zdzislaw saying there is no symbolism, that could allude to something in of itself.
I have two similar theories that could potentially apply if that's the case in:
1. That the point/meaning is exactly how the piece hits you and that looking too deeply could muddle the impact.
2. You already know what it means, don't act like you have to observe more just look and know.
Personally I think that, despite them being so similar #2 has an underlying frustration or even anger to it, which is why I lean towards that understanding. There could be many underlying reasons it would be that but what I feel from his work is a desire to get people to directly face the horrors in the world instead of looking for reasons or just talking about how sad it is. Just look at it. It's uncomfortable and gives one a deeper feeling of needing to do something about it, in my opinion.
Or he'd hate me saying any of that haha. Regardless, his work is beautifully anguished in a way that I haven't seen/felt elsewhere and I appreciate that.
And anyone who hasn't seen Blind Dweller's videos is missing out fr. Get on that.
I admire Zdzisław Beksiński works. When you have a chance to visit Poland sometime travel to Sanok, his birth place, where local historical museum keeps permanent exhibition of his works - photography, sculptures, paintings. Experiencing his art that way in something else. I live in Poland and I've been there few times already. Never disappoints.
I agree. Art is humanities way of explaining what it FEELS like to be human. What it feels like to FEEL. Words almost always fail us in this regard.
With art we can share our pain, love, sadness, joy, etc and when we share the art with other humans, they can see their own emotions and feel understood and not alone.
One piece of art, whether it be visual or auditory art, can speak to each person that consumes it a completely different way, taking their own life experience and feelings and projecting it into what they are looking at/hearing.
It's an amazing and beautiful part of humanity. Life is hard. Emotions are impossible. Yet each time I find art that speaks to me, life becomes a bit easier and a while lot less lonely.
Marina Abramovic is either a genius or very daring or foolhardy ... or maybe all three! Thanks for this very informative video.
For the first piece, when you mentioned war, I immediately made the connection to disfigurements, amputations and scars as a result of centuries of the many wars we had (from handling explosives to gun fires) aside from of course other harmful causes like diseases, wounds and severe injuries that civilians too have to struggle with in those times. Even just working with the ammunitions of these weapons from time to time could cause a lot of damage to health no less working on them (Many women worked under these factories to provide ammunition, food and other resources whilst the men fought the wars) every single day to provide for all of the wars or using them directly in-person on a daily basis. A lot of then as well suffered from hearing impairements due to the shootings and explosions.
i love seeing videos about the darker side of art. i love all types of art, both modern and traditionalist, so it's nice to see that appreciation be repeated on my subscription feed. if you would like a few more obscure, dark and borderline sociopathic art pieces you'd like to be aware of, don't be afraid to ask. i have seen shit.
Wow, this was unexpectedly wholesome. I knew about all the topics, but loved the video none the less. Thank you for your take on these pieces!
Thanks so much for doing this video! Wonderful! And you take care of yourself too ❤️
The editing on this video is REALLY really good!!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it!
That is NOT art. It's torture. I feel bad for her and the people who took part should feel like shit.
an ugly reflection of society
Absolutely love this kind of content, artists doing what they want and expressing their ideaology in whatever way they choose.
As an art curation major, I honestly like every single one of these artists. Especially Marina. I visited a few of her exhibitions and it was such a weird but absolutely amazing experience both times
I really enjoyed this. This was very informative; I saw a few of these painting before but I never knew the context! thanks for that! I hope you make more painting/art vids ㅜㅜ
Gotta say, love this topic. (Studied art history in college.) Hope you do more along these lines!
Zidzislaw's painting of which you gave your interpretation made me cry upon hearing your interpretation, as it reminds me of losing my wife to liver disease.
Just goes to show how brutal people can be when there's "no one" watching...and how cowardly and ashamed of their transgressions when confronted. I'm glad she survived her presentation.
The whole thing with Marina just proved to me how common it is that we have psychopaths walking among us.
Endurance Art ? You've got to be kidding. Standing still for 6 hours and letting people molest you isn't art. It's a sociological experiment.
Whole thing seems a bit silly.
There is no way to Americanize Polish names, because you're not suppose to do that. Just try to read it like a Polish person would, look up some interview or other clip from Polish documentary or news. We just have weird sounds in our language and names that writing it phonetically down or using an ai will not do the trick. You need to repeat it from hearing, sadly.
this was so interesting!! i’d love to see more of these!!
Absolutely brilliant. Loved every minute.
Thank you for introducing me to that first guy's work.
Subbed.❤👍🇨🇦
So wonderful how you felt beneath the bones to the real substance of creation: Love 💗 💗💗
Also, Marina practices high Crowley magic and allows demon(s) to “assist” in her pieces … no judgment, though I feel it is too risky for the art I create! Lol 🙏🏽🕊 Thank you for your Light ✨
She’s a demon then?
Judgement isnt gonna come from us, critiquing isnt what she should worry over.
I understand not titling things but I also agree with my old art teacher, call it something even if it's just #1. A work's title doesn't have to reflect what it in the piece, but it gives people something to identity.
I would love to see more videos like this. excellent job very interesting and insightful all around
Beksinski is my FAVORITE artist. Absolutely phenomenal work.
I really appreciate your work because videos on the theme of art are rarely made. Rythm 0 is a very powerful artwork and I'm glad that more people will learn about it through your video. Though I'd like to point out that the correct pronunciation of Marina's surname is AbramoviCH
not as messed up but damien hirst has some messed up stuff, don’t like most of it but my favorite artwork i’ve seen irl is his The Black Sun, which is a huge, 11-foot-tall circle canvas covered in 3 inches of dead flies. it’s gorgeous to look at and such an interesting concept
These are some good ones!
I've been to a lot of galleries and have an interest in postmodern art and also an acedemic degree in fine art, so I've got some more stuff for you to check out:
Self by Marc Quinn, also known as the blood heads (got to see some of them in a gallery, love the partially melted one)
Marc Quinn in general, he has some stuff going on
Walter De Maria's Lightning Fields (also his other stuff, love to have to sign a contract that I won't sue if the artwork injures me)
Guernica is a classic and still delivers
Wim Delvoye's Cloaca should get some more discussion regarding new developments in tech
No one in the anglosphere knows about Hermann Nitsch (I have opinions about his stuff bc he just kept doing the same thing for decades because it was popular, what a sell-out)
Love your videos so much!!!!
I’m glad you like them! :)
Great video, I had seen some of the pieces but didn't know the artist. Would be cool to see a follow-up video if you find anymore. Also, random question but what's the name of the music you play in the background?
Knight is literally the only RUclipsr for who asks for a dislike and an improvement suggestion 🙏😭
What a great video ; thank's for this selection. Moreover, I find your personal interpretations relevant. See you !
New subscriber here! This video is so interesting and different. You should make a part 2 ❤😊
Beksinski and Giger are my favorite artists. So happy to see the appreciation here.
These are powerful and amazing. It's an actual physical reaction, an emotional reaction they evoke
It is wondrous when one finds beauty in such paintings. You are cool.
l really enjoy you're videos good job man
Thanks for this! Regards from Ásgeir in Iceland.
Thank you so much for mentioning Zdzisław Beksiński! I haven't seen any other video that have him in them, and he's so underrated
And yes, you butchered the name (especially surname) hahah, understandable since he's Polish
But seriously now, I love your videos and hope they will be more noticed and that they will reach more people
Jakis filmik SolarSands ma wątek Beksińskiego
Thank you very much for this video. Alfred Kubin is another mid-20th century artist who is famous for his disturbing imagery. His drawings borrow from Symbolism and Expressionism, and represent humanity as being futile and senseless, easily overwhelmed by dark, unfathomable and oppressive forces staged through a recurring symbolism of the monster and the deformed.
I really enjoyed this video! It would be nice if you could make more art videos in the future. Hearing your view points, especially on bekinskis work, was really interesting
Marina proved to me that it's ok not to trust anyone
I loved this video!
I just must add, that Zdzisław Beksiński might have claimed that there's no symbolism in his art, but we cannot separate it from the time when he created. He was heavily traumatized by the WWII like most of the Polish people who witnessed war in Poland.
Awesome video, i'm fascinated with the Zidzislaw style art, but i can't help recommending another piece of art, ''Las Pinturas Negras'' of spanish painter Francisco de Goya.
Awesome video 👌
I like how clever the thumbnail is, made me think id watched some of it already…only backwards.
haven't yet finished the video but i wanted to drop my take on Zidzislaw Beksinski's untitled piece, bare in mind this is coming from someone who has never seen any of his other art pieces before today, but the piece shown just... Doesn't radiate any despair to me. It's not hopeful and is definitely melancholic but not in anyway full of despair. It's a piece that radiates this sense of the human nature that people tend to ignore, that at the end of the day we're very social creatures and it's what allowed us to make it this far. It's the hug of two dying people, so aware of their oncoming death but instead of using their time for frivolous meaningless actions they decided to go out hugging someone they might not have even known. The desperation in their hug resounds a lot in me, and even kind of reminds me of 'I Have No Mouth and, I Must Scream'. Where in the novel, instead of freeing himself from the fate of AM he decides to save everyone else at the cost of himself becoming monsterous.
MAN, that was a lot whoops. Haha funny brain go brrr
Hey that's cool that he's a Radiohead fan.
Some junior high school pics are scary esp circa 1985-1999.
I found the hugging ppl so Beautiful. It reminds me of the sentence "till death.."
The way I see the last untitled painting by Beksinski is that they are two lovers in the act of coitus
I KNOW I'm going to enjoy this video😭🤚
Important to note that Zidzislaw Beksinski grew up in Poland during WW2. While he may not have made hia art witb any symbolism behind it, you can't help but feel that what he saw made its way into the paintings
i like your Radiohead poster, really fits with the theme
"we're not scareamongering"
your shirt sold me
This was fantastic! Please do a sequel.
Its amazing the things people create in art just from their imagination 😎🤟
love the shirt caden
The earpiece that you're wearing is one of the most disturbing art IMO
Very cool. Very interesting.
Hey, this is irrelevant, but you sincerely are one of my favorite content creators. Keep it up. :)
Although she did basically said you can do absolutely anything to me, I hate the fact that the humans first intention is to hurt, and did all of those nasty things they did to her instead of just idk hug her
5:34 And it's not even a theory! I think he literally said that he doesn't title his works, beacause he doesn't want to suggest any interpretation! Also, you pronounced Zdzisław's name and surname pretty good, though it's hard for foreigners to pronounce it correctly. Greetings from Zdzisław's home country- Poland!
If I were around for that last six hour performance art, I'd feel the need to stay there the whole time just to try and ward off anyone who would harm, threaten, or disparage her. I would just know that someone would try...
as a polish person i'm happy to see a polish painter being mentioned. Beksiński's works are so disturbing, yet intriguing in a way, specifically my favourite 'Crawling Death'.
Zdzisław Beksiński's paintings have no meaning behind them bc that's just what being polish is like
Before this vid I got the "I can turn anything into pillow!" And I'm imagining pillows of these horrifying figures and stuff and it's cracking me up
Whats the matter, Rumble or Odysee not based enough for you to put uncut videos on?
Thank you❤
Was touched by the General looking at the face of a war survivor. Reminds of how General Miley was disgusted by Trumps reception n of a wounded war vet Trump had to greet during a Veteran Valor ceremony, he told General Miley he didn't like having to greet and hug a man like that. A Veteran from Afghanistan who lost two legs an arm and half his face. Trump didn't like being around them.
The two emaciated bodies hugging each other,I made a head and leg of what seem like a baby btw them...or it could be my imagination!
I know so many horror artists who have such beautiful and dark peices if anyone is interested. Second artist is a favourite of mine his art is just insanely good.
The gun and single bullet is pretty bad, but I think the most disturbing thing on that table was the pack of Trojans
Abramovic's work is very interesting. In a way the people there become the art by their actions and true to type, the race to the bottom was swift.
Wayne Barlow is the Darkest giving twisted visions of hellish nightmares
As to why Zdzislaw Beksinski's art is untitled:
"Meaning is meaningless to me. I do not care for symbolism and I paint what I paint without meditating on a story."- Zdzislaw Beksinski
I love this kind of art
It’s not the general that neeeds to see it it’s his bosses above him that had the authority the general follows orders like every other soldier
Marina's project haunts me to my absolute core, no lie.
Dedication to your "art" isn't worth risking your life.🤔🤔🤔
I would wibe Marina's face and tears and hug her
I don’t know what the timelines are, but Ken Currie’s disturbing work looks strikingly similar to Marshall Arisman’s paintings.
Okay, I'm glad I found your channel. Thought provoking, Informative and most importantly creative and fearlessly explorative work that you do here. Fuck Yeah!
Another disturbing artist I really like is xue jiye. He has a very distinct style and very disturbing work! Highly recommend checking him out
