Reharmonizing the classic jazz standard "All of me"
I really dig this style of playing for solo piano.
Harmonically and rhythmically, it's pretty tricky due to the combination of the super imposed harmony and over the bar phrasing that I apply, but hey, if you feel like it, why not ?
It sounds kinda rubato, but it is in time and makes the performance more lyrical.
Although I'm playing it in the key of C by changing the bass lines, it gives the illusion that you are in a different key from the original, for the head.
Makes me wonder when I'm searching for new harmonic qualities in jazz harmony if there is anything left...?
Note: Every 16 bars I play the original melody and sometimes the harmony of the C part (Form ABAC) as a reference point for my students to keep track of the form or those who might get confused with what I do.
Kinda like an exercise!
