Samsung LED TV no power or clicking on and off

  • I bought this Samsung 46" LED TV UN46B8000XFXZA Nov 2009 and it worked for about 3-4 years. Starting getting a clicking on/off symptom which seemed to resolve by unplugging and plugging back in. Finally it died and no matter what it would not power on. I did not have time for it and stored it in the basement for about a year or so until now when I resolved the problem. It appears the bottom connection of the mainboard connects to a RF Switch Module BN96-10737B SWPZ01-RX. After disconnecting this the TV powers up fine. Also the remote still works without this component so I'm not sure what purpose it serves.....other than making the TV not work :)

Well done Jeff. You were so correct. Just disconnecting the WiFi receiver did the trick. For those using the TV for live streaming, connect your internet router directly to the Ethernet connector. Thank you again Jeff!

After over 4.5 months of my tv being dead I've now found a simple way to correct the problem thanks to you, I'm too tired to try it now but tomorrow morning after breakfast this set and I are gonna have a showdown. Thanks again.

I have to thank you for your effort and work and then after all that .. sharing it with the rest of us. I bought a Samsung UN32EH4003F at the Salvation Army for 30.00. It worked for almost a year. Now it has just gone blank. I am going to be trying some of the suggestions here on RUclips...Thank you so much for your work. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks Jeff - although your post is 5 years old, it solved the problem with my Samsung. I spent a lot of time searching and checking for a capacitor issue with no resolve. Finally unplugged the network interface card as you did, and problem solved. How frustrating though! My Samsung is configured differently (UN55J6201 AF), but I had a similar looking black component and disconnected it!!! Thanks so much for posting.

Thanks! My sister's TV stopped turning on. It was a Samsung as well but a different model. I unplugged the wifi module and then the TV turned on. Yay, exept the sound no longer worked. I turned the TV off and plugged the wifi module back in and it wouln't turn on again. I unplugged the wifi module and then turned the TV on and then plugged the module in while the TV was turned on and the sound came back. Now the TV will turn on and off no problem. You saved her a lot of money. :)

So apperently Samsung BN96‑10737C is a wifi module, so if you don't care about wifi then it's totally fine to remove it out of the circuit.
I just unplugged it on the panel I have sitting here and it's been going strong all day.
The part is 30-50 to replace, also seems to be a common issue with this model of wifi module.
Thanks for the video, this might help people from spending obscene amounts on unnecessary board swapping.

Thanks so very much for this video!!! I have a 27" Samsung monitor that worked fine for a year or more, then it started to turn itself off and back on repeatedly...not a constant cycle, just when I most needed to see something, it would choose to turn off then. By the time it came back on, what I wanted to see was long gone!!!
Right now my biggest problem with it is I can't figure out how to get the back off. I don't see any screws or anything else obvious to use to remove the back. But if I ever figure that out, I will look for that LAN device and remove the plug to see it that makes it work properly! Thanks for the video!!!

Thanks a lot Jeff!! You saved my TV! I didn't find a RF module on my TV (UN55ES7100 2012), but I unplugged the Wi-Fi cable and it worked. My TV kept turning off and then back on when I tried to watch tv. Now my TV work like it's new again! :D (I lost the Smart TV capacity, but so what, I have an Android box and the smart TV option on this TV is outdated and apps are not updated).

Worked for my “smart TV” Samsung UN55ES8000, cable was little different but essentially the same thought process. My LED light at the bottom no longer works but I unplugged the power to my Bluetooth and WiFi modules and my TV now no longer spazzs out doing the on/off loop thing. Thanks!

Jeff thank you. My UN55ES8000 samsung was doing the same thing turning on & off and I was getting so annoyed. I removed the wifi modulator and now it's working fine. On my tv it was on the corner left of the panel. Guys before replacing the boards or capacitors just unplug the wifi...Samsung get it together how can a little wifi card mess with the TV?! Bought it before for over 2K. I wished I saw your video first before all the other videos talking about bad capacitors. Anyway Jeff thanks again for the fix! UNPLUG or remove the Wifi card!

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU for posting the link for the service manuals!!! I've got a 42" Hitachi LCD TV I've been wanting to fix for a year now, & could not find the service manual online (even from Hitachi), unless you paid $20 for it, or tried to download it from some suspect source with malware attached. Your source had my manual & downloaded clean (scanned with anti-virus & anti-malware, no problems). FREE!
Even with the Ethernet cable disconnected like that, you can still do firmware update on the TV by downloading the file(s) to a USB thumb drive. You can then insert the drive into the USB port on the TV, and it should update. Check your user's manual for particulars on your model.
Living in Florida, we're VERY familiar with lightning strikes/line surges killing our electronics. We always use surge protectors on everything to prevent problems like this; it's cheap insurance. There are even some dedicated Ethernet surge protectors on the market that work well & cost less than $20.

  • @macgyver5108
    @macgyver5108 3 года назад

I'm into electronics/amateur radio and anything with an "antenna" like a WiFi module can be finicky or even fry with big enough electrostatic discharges close to it, everything from a vacuum cleaner (especially older ones) to a near enough lightning strike can fry certain "indoor" electronics like WiFi routers, TV's or desktop computers ETC. Not having them properly protected with a high Joule rated surge protector is just begging for problems in lightning/power outage prone areas. To save you some time for future reference too, most of the time you can visually tell if an electrolytic capacitor (the typically "black" cylindrical kind you replaced) are bad just by looking at the metallic top/end that has a + scored on it, if it's flat they're usually good but if they're domed up and bulged outwards they're toast.

Hi Jeff and others: It could still be a power supply issue: it could be that the power draw of the wifi board causes the power supply to fail (the straw that broke the camel's back kind of thing). It could be that when you reduce the load on the DC power supply, it is able to supply whatever is needed, but under the higher load it fails to produce the right voltage - a bit like a bad Ac/Dc adapter...

I had the same problem a few years ago on mu Samsung UN32EH5300F a few years back. I realized that the TV was not pulling a MAC address ever so often and it was only then the TV will power cycle on and off or even just go off. I did the same disconnection of the Wireless module and the worked fine. You could go ahead and use LAN connection for internet on the TV without any issues from then on. I later bought a replacement WLAN module and the TV has been working fine since.

I unplugged that cable and plugged it back in and then it worked. Did not try smart features like WIFI yet but power seems to work. On my model, that cable forks off from the power supply ribbon cable, which may answer the question of why it effects power. I guess disconnecting and reconnecting reset the internet box

Exactly.. Samsung mostly makes technology that is not QC'ed for a realistic time. Most everything samsung went out withing 2-3yrs(Except phone) Fridge, LCD TV, WshMachine, Etc.. When you disconnect that, It would seem to only remove wireless functions. I think that's just a wireless card. They are known for going out. Mine did 2yr s ago and am stuck w/ using Ethernet.

Could do some simple checks on RF board. Bad IC component shorted to ground. Weak solder point on board, will show a burn mark on PC board. Also some 3 pin IC to lower a voltage on PC board itself could be the problem.

Interesting, I have come across a few Samsung LED panels what have had corrupted IR receiver boards that when disconnected the panel just wouldn't fire up with a remote.
I have this exact panel doing the exact same thing yours is doing, when its been unplugged for awhile it turns on as it should, but when powered down and back up it clicks infinitely over and over unless I unplug it from power and back in.
I wonder if that extra IR reciver is for a IR keyboard or something because that panel has early smart TV functions. If it still is working with the Samsung remote after that one has been removed from circuit then that would be my only guess as to why.
I will dig into mine and post my findings, I have repaired several Samsung Panels over the years and these new LED panels are the worse as far as quality control goes!
Is the panel still up and running as it should be with that IR receiver still disconnected?

Jeremy Weaver Hi Jeremy, thanks for the comments and the extra research. My Samsung is still running strong and my remote still works :) When I was originally researching my problem I could only find postings related to capacitors. When my TV started having issues it was similar to yours, the TV would work until it was powered off, then when powering it on it would click on and off until unplugged and plugged back in. After some time of doing this it would not power on at all and I eventually discovered this to resolve it.

They were all fine and I found that cable running to a Bluetooth device, google the serial number. Unplugged it and has worked for years. So you give this guy shit for spending $300 to repair his tv and then go into the 3 tv's you repaired that broke again almost immediately? That makes no sense. In one breath you say buy cheap tv's so when they break you can throw them away, and then you say you get all these tv's for free and then fix them... and they break again. Sounds like whatever you're doing isn't working for you Santos, and instead of saying other people are "not too much smart" you should keep your opinions to yourself.

$2500 . When I complained the store said”you should have take. Out the Gold Insurance”What the?? How pathetic . I read a lot of bad stuff about this model. I hate the friendly and coercive way shop assistants try to sell, but if something goes wrong it’s my fault for not paying extra for insurance. It shouldn’t go wrong. It was set up by a professional, and worked perfectly for a month now nothing. Also keeps telling me the internet is not connected, and that is crap.
SAMSUNG..WHAT DO I DO NOW. .? You’ve had bad publicity over a crap phone, now this expensive TV .

Wendy Simpson your tv should have a 3 to 5 year warranty on it with Samsung itself. You need to contact Samsung.

I have a samsung un40f6300af and I'm experiencing the exact same symptoms you had. Your Tv is basically the same thing as mine but mine is newer than 2009 (mine might be a 2014 idk) but when I open mine up I don't have that Ethernet module or the cable that connects to it. Anybody have this TV and know what the problem is?

Mine was hidden inside the outer plastic casing. I had to take the whole outer casing off to find it. If your TV has wifi you should have one of these!

I recommend to all to buy sharps. Sharp is the actual inventor of the LED TV (well they hold the patent) this is why they released the biggest and best LEDs toarket b4 everyone else. They also own patent to all screens on new phones with gglass. All they make now is TVs. And they make the best. Samsung and other companies contract out so much for so many things. This is why my these issues occur. Put Samsung in its place. Don't buy their products. I have yet to see a Samsung tv over 8yrs old that is not at least having fault in screen most by 8 years are power cycling or completely dead. If your going to spend big money. But from the leaders in the field. Sales doesn't make leaders... The people they have to pay royalties or order crucial components from are the leaders. In screens and TVs this is sharp.

you totally waisted your time replaceing the caps there are only certin samsung models all LCDs that have the bad caps. They are phycially puffed up and easy to identify.
The wifi cards are a common failure for cycling also.
