As a kid, I assumed Ayrton was loved in Brazil for his race wins and championships. Years later, I realised he was overwhelmingly popular at home for so much more than mere F1 statistics, Senna cared deeply about his country and wanted to help those in need. I can't begin to imagine the scale of hammer blow that news from Imola was to them.

My parents saw Ayrton Senna's crash live, and though they weren't fans of his, they just knew that the world had lost a beautiful angel of the track. I can imagine that he was a man who cared deeply for the sport, for the art, but most of all, for his family, friends and country. Rest in eternal peace, Ayrton Senna. We will always miss you.

I was 9 years old when I watched the San Marino Grand Prix. I cried when Ayrton got into that corner and crashed and died. Formula 1 faded for me that day. For years, while watching Schumi, I always thought of Ayrton. I stopped watching Formula 1 when Schumi retired. Whenever I see or think of Formula 1 races, I immediately think of Senna. I think he was the greatest Formula 1 driver ever. rest in peace...

El francés Erik Comas, aquel piloto que dos años antes en el Gran Premio de Bélgica fue salvado por el mismísimo Ayrton Senna salvándole la vida al detener su auto y asistirle. Por eso llego como loco Comas al lugar del accidente de Senna, me hace llorar semejante escena. Al enterarse de la muerte de Senna, Comas se retiro de la Formula 1 devastado y agradecido por siempre con Ayrton por salvarle la vida y que el no pudo hacer nada para devolverle el favor. I think I got into F1 towards the end of his McLaren days and I absolutely adored him. I still remember this weekend. I remember assuming he was OK because after all, it was Ayrton Senna. I remember thinking he's probably on the radio moaning at the team because his head moved, eventually realising he was hurt but not thinking it was serious because again, this was Ayrton Senna. I remember him being taken away by helicopter and thinking that it was obviously a bad injury but wondering if he'll be back in time to have a chance of winning the championship. I remember turning the TV to watch the 6 o'Clock news later on to see if there was an update and the top story was that he'd passed. I think I was confused as much upset. That wasn't supposed to happen. How could it? Roland Ratzenberger was a rookie in one of the less good cars. That was sad but we all know that every now and again, a driver will lose their lives. That's Motorsport and not a bad way to go if you're a Petrolhead unless it was a really silly mistake. Reubens Barichello walked away from a much worse-looking crash and drivers routinely walked away from crashes. I wonder how many championships he would have won, how exciting would his battles with Schumacher have been, how he would fare in increasingly easier to drive cars, whether he would approve of drivers fiddling with buttons all the time and having a push-to-pass button. I think he would have stopped F1 becoming so idiotic, predictable and tame.

Indeed Senna was a racer, a champion like no other. No matter how many F1 racers have won more than him before or after him, he was the best driver ever, no one was and is able to give the emotions he gave to his public. But this isn't the reason why so many people loved him, not only in his country but also all around the world. Everyone who followed him, saw him, listened to his speech, to his gentle voice, who knew his deeds outside of F1, who looked at his incomparable deep eyes could feel his charisma, his sweet sadness, his kindness as a gentle human being, something that goes far beyond and far deeper than his abilities as car racer. He was a human being like no other, not a perfect human being, but a great one. I grew up as a child and as teenager following him in any race, I loved him so much. On that cursed May 1 1994, against that hated curve of the Tamburello in Imola, destiny took him away and took also a piece of my heart with him. At first I won't accept the evidence, he could not be passed away, but he was... I was 17 years old. I don't know why I felt and still feel this way, as if a person of my family was missed forever. I silently cried for weeks anytime I was by myself and sometimes it happens even today when I remember him. I've never seen anyone like him, I wasn't able to love F1 the same way after him. Still miss him the same way after 30 years. In my mind I always remember what ancient Greeks said about heroes "Ὃν οἱ θεοὶ φιλοῦσιν, ἀποθνὴσκει νέος." (Menander). "He whom the gods love dies young", only the good die young. Maybe destiny did not want that Ayrton was changed by time, he was too beautiful to grow old. Cara , a ficha não caiu até hoje . Tenho 38 anos e minha infância foi toda acordando de manhã aos domingos pra ver Ayrton Senna . É inaceitável ele ter morrido naquelas circunstâncias . Sei que foi uma grande e improvável fatalidade a Barra da suspensão ter atravessado o capacete (algo que dificilmente se repetirá ) , mas mil vezes repito, é inaceitável . Seguramente ele teria mais títulos e deteria ainda muitos recordes.

I think I got into F1 towards the end of his McLaren days and I absolutely adored him.
I still remember this weekend. I remember assuming he was OK because after all, it was Ayrton Senna.
I remember thinking he's probably on the radio moaning at the team because his head moved, eventually realising he was hurt but not thinking it was serious because again, this was Ayrton Senna. I remember him being taken away by helicopter and thinking that it was obviously a bad injury but wondering if he'll be back in time to have a chance of winning the championship.
I remember turning the TV to watch the 6 o'Clock news later on to see if there was an update and the top story was that he'd passed. I think I was confused as much upset. That wasn't supposed to happen. How could it? Roland Ratzenberger was a rookie in one of the less good cars. That was sad but we all know that every now and again, a driver will lose their lives. That's Motorsport and not a bad way to go if you're a Petrolhead unless it was a really silly mistake. Reubens Barichello walked away from a much worse-looking crash and drivers routinely walked away from crashes.
I wonder how many championships he would have won, how exciting would his battles with Schumacher have been, how he would fare in increasingly easier to drive cars, whether he would approve of drivers fiddling with buttons all the time and having a push-to-pass button. I think he would have stopped F1 becoming so idiotic, predictable and tame.
The reason F1 is so "idiotic, predictable and tame." is to try and stop more Senna's. A living legend, is much less heart-breaking than a dead one.

Indeed Senna was a racer, a champion like no other. No matter how many F1 racers have won more than him before or after him, he was the best driver ever, no one was and is able to give the emotions he gave to his public. But this isn't the reason why so many people loved him, not only in his country but also all around the world. Everyone who followed him, saw him, listened to his speech, to his gentle voice, who knew his deeds outside of F1, who looked at his incomparable deep eyes could feel his charisma, his sweet sadness, his kindness as a gentle human being, something that goes far beyond and far deeper than his abilities as car racer. He was a human being like no other, not a perfect human being, but a great one. I grew up as a child and as teenager following him in any race, I loved him so much. On that cursed May 1 1994, against that hated curve of the Tamburello in Imola, destiny took him away and took also a piece of my heart with him. At first I won't accept the evidence, he could not be passed away, but he was... I was 17 years old. I don't know why I felt and still feel this way, as if a person of my family was missed forever. I silently cried for weeks anytime I was by myself and sometimes it happens even today when I remember him. I've never seen anyone like him, I wasn't able to love F1 the same way after him. Still miss him the same way after 30 years. In my mind I always remember what ancient Greeks said about heroes "Ὃν οἱ θεοὶ φιλοῦσιν, ἀποθνὴσκει νέος." (Menander). "He whom the gods love dies young", only the good die young. Maybe destiny did not want that Ayrton was changed by time, he was too beautiful to grow old. So he took him away from this life, to save him from the outrageous time and to let him live as eternal memory in the heart of people. Cara , a ficha não caiu até hoje . Tenho 38 anos e minha infância foi toda acordando de manhã aos domingos pra ver Ayrton Senna . É inaceitável ele ter morrido naquelas circunstâncias . Sei que foi uma grande e improvável fatalidade a Barra da suspensão ter atravessado o capacete (algo que dificilmente se repetirá ) , mas mil vezes repito, é inaceitável . Seguramente ele teria mais títulos e deteria ainda muitos recordes.
Eu tenho 37, e até hoje não engoli a morte dele completamente. Ficou um vazio muito grande.
