  • Hey, Fam! We passed by a very attractive community in the Houston area and wanted to do some house hunting. We were not disappointed... sort of. The Bridgeland offers some incredibly nice options for buying a home, but stick to your budget!

Smart to STAY in budget. My house is old, single floor 3 small bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths and garage. Can't afford new kitchen cabinets but at least I HAVE cabinets. Some would call my house a dump but I'm glad for what I have. I'm thankful for what I have, as so MANY around the world have NOTHING! I used to cry after my husband left me for selfish reasons in 2018 because I had been "promised" new cabinets. It's hard to make even small improvements when you don't have the money and I refuse to go into debt at 71.

Hi... Listening to the story I feel the young man had his priorities straight too. Kudos to him for saying up front when he can work. Some wait until they get the job, get put on the schedule, and then start saying what days they can't work. Also, some managers really don't care about your life outside of the job. Their goal is to get people that can work whenever they need them.

I agree with you Don regarding the young man at the interview. He is a kid--yet--he seems to have good priorities. He already committed himself to a school activity on Mon and Thurs-he is keeping his commitment. He has his church activities on Sunday, I assume with his family and he is keeping that commitment. He was still available 4 days a week and I think that would give him a pretty full schedule. The manager made a bad decision, but like you said, it sounds like the kid will be just fine. As for Pegi and the house hunting---I'm sorry Don did that to you (LOL) you will find the right home when it's ready for you. Good luck, love you both.

I agree w/you on priorities. The workplace has changed. It’s no longer about people, it’s about plugging a name into a schedule time slot. Before I retired early from one of the largest corporations in the country, I was saddened💔when they asked a coworker to reschedule her cancer treatments to accommodate the schedule. We used to shake our heads that the public sees this particular company as family oriented. Jmo but corporate greed contributes to our🇺🇸downfall.

  • @mrssexxyms
    @mrssexxyms Год назад +5

Don you are absolutely right about the priorities! Back in the day, they didn't care about your priorities as long as their schedules were covered. I and my children experienced this. The pay was far less then. I will never forget my daughter braking down crying because she was afraid of losing her part-time at Popeyes. The family was coming to Dallas for a Mary Kay convention in support of me. She cried the whole trip. Not realizing that job didn't pay her enough to support herself or her then 6 month old. Her dad and I told her to quit and just go to school, we had them! Every time my job treated me, I did what I had to do because I was making more in Mary Kay than my part-time job that I was putting in full-time hours for.

You are right, DON, that young man did want to work! When my son was in high school, he would work his job until 12:30 AM sometimes to 1 AM. On evenings that he had a test the next day he told his boss he would need to leave on time because he had a test the next day. The boss would tell him he didn’t care; that he had to finish his shift…,well his shift was over at 11 so he was working extra two hours. We have to be fair on both sides for these young people. Great discussion.

I can remember when I was in High school that my Aunty who lived in New Orleans moved to Houston. She took us to look at houses! We lived aa out 90 miles from her and my dad would have had that big of a commute to keep his job! But we 4 Kids thought it was a real thing and certainly felt some kind of way about it. Especially when the house was over $100 thousand dollars in the 70’s! It has a sauna, pool and each of we 4 kids could have had our own room! I feel you Pegi! My house is paid for I don’t need all the stuff I thought I did at 13. We live in our living room and bedroom and ensuite and kitchen dinning area! There are 3 other bedrooms and nobody lives in them! I don’t even want to think about move! But I enjoyed the house tours!😊❤Donald I’m with you on the job front! I think it was great that the young man spoke up and told him what he could do. The real world of working starts pretty early and no since in selling your high school years away for working..that will come soon enough.. plus a boss that can see and respect his workers to give him there all on days they work will be a happy boss! People will return and workers will feel respected,

As a former Houstonian, (originally from Chicago)...YES, the cost of housing is a bit cheaper BUT the property taxes are insane. My 4,100sq ft house at six years old peaked at $15,000 in yearly property tax! We protested with county and were able to get it down closer to $14,000. I'm now in San Antonio in a 3,200sq ft older home and pay close to $10,000 yearly property tax - still crazy high.

I wanted to comment on the phone situation, I just wanted to say that I have a phone and it is an android and I also found out back a few months ago that when you purchase a Samsung phone that they are now only giving you the cord and not the charging port, that is a separate purchase which cost about $30 to $40. I think this is ridiculous. It makes me say that I don't want to upgrade my phone.(lol), and on the conversation of the young man applying for a job I feel that he did the right thing he was upfront about what days he could work, sounds like to me he had his ducks in a row, some of these managers are something else, and good luck house hunting, BE BLESSED

Maybe tour tiny house communities? Just a home base. Rent to buy. Right location. Not too close to lakes or creeks.

Don, you are absolutely right about the young man having his priorities straight. That manager, first off, should not have discussed anything about an applicant with another person, especially a customer. Next, that managers inability to work with a prospective employee shows the lack of his management techniques.

I believe that you can live anywhere if you are willing to give up X, Y and Z. That is why I live where and what I live. True stay in your budget. I truly understand I have been sad many time while house hunting. Peace

Wow my jaw dropped amazing and beautiful home loved the swimming pool and I loved everything in there. And Peggy it’s ok it’s not in your budget but it’s good that you stay in the real world. Houses are overpriced into day’s economic as well as food cars and everything. You guys have wonderful style and I’m sure you will find the right one at the right time. I love hanging out with you guys because you’re the real deal and have lots of class so you’ll know when to pull that trigger. Thanks for always sharing you all amazing journey. Also loved seeing you guys hanging out with family and trying the Chinese food that was a blast and always DJ is still the star🤩🦋🦋🥰

Young man at McDonald's...I think manager missed out on a good employee. Straight, up front and I bet honest. Just saying.
    Good rant sir!

I've also had the debate with a friend...who works at McDonald's during the school day? High schoolers schedules need to be flexible so they can do what they must...GO TO SCHOOL!

😂😂 when my niece first moved in with me last year we just went and looked at houses. Mind you I already have a house. I was just bored. We saw 1-2 million dollar homes. I was walking around like I could actually afford it telling myself not to break nothing 😂. It nothing else my niece and I could dream 😂
I agree with you about the manager. They don't want to think about the schedule because you have people who want to work weekends and those who don't and the managers just don't want to actually sit down and strategize. They blind schedule.
