    If you have regular riders who with you often then for sure they should chip in for gas, however if you invite someone out to ride they absolutely should not have to pay! Also 20 year loan on a boat is an insane concept and should not be encouraged

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  3 года назад

      I respectfully disagree with your thoughts on not having to pay when invited but because so many people think this way I only invite people occasionally and when I do I make them aware of my rules ahead of time so they are not surprised and can choose not to come if they dont want to pitch in. I agree, a 20 year loan should not be encouraged but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a 20 year loan so long as its managed properly.

      I try to keep it situational. I was helped out a lot as a kid and young adult. The people I went with didn’t expect anything but I would contribute when I could. I think that is what’s most important is a conscious effort made to contribute. Find something you can do to help whether it’s gas money, meeting early at the house to help pack, wiping down boat etc

    You forgot the most expensive thing you start on a 1 grand beater boat then it takes over your life and you spend 300 grand on a g25 paragon every single year and go broke

    • @toddhewett1027
      @toddhewett1027 3 года назад +2

      Never start out on a 1 grand beater. The guy who does that becomes the “2 best days of a boat owners life guy”- day he buys it, day he sells it.... because he bought the wrong boat. Unless you own a boat restoration shop and want to sink a bunch of money into an old thing that will never get you a return.... stay away from the garbage. You will end up with a project and have to call me to come help you get it going or gone. If you want a tow sports boat, and cant afford 100kloan, or dont want that sort of debt in your life, check out the national classifieds and filter your search down to your price. Boattrader and onlyinboards are both great places. So is facebook marketplace.

      @@toddhewett1027 I was more kidding then serious however boat restoration is possible in fact I am considering buying a sub 500 dollar jetski and restoring it projects are okay as Long as you are technically inclined and dont expect everything to work exactly how you want/expect it to both after you fix it and when you buy it

      I think its a bit different for everyone but these day I simply require people to pay for the fuel they use so only those who ride behind the boat typically.

    We've talked about this before, but I'm also a boat owner that lets new wakeboarders know that they pay for their share of gas money, per set, to ride on my boat. The cost depends on current price per gallon. Most wakeboarders know this. It's clear that the people who post comments, saying they don't charge for gas or say gas money is chump change have a different view. But ever since I've been on the water behind a boat, which has been nearly 30 years now, it was ALWAYS etiquette to pay for your share of gas money. No matter where I've ridden in the US or around the world, that was an expectation. Especially for wakeboarders that DON'T own their own boat, they know upfront that it's a part of getting a pull. Period.
    Now, I don't charge people who just come and hang out on the boat, only those who get pulled are expected to pay for their sets. As for someone's comment that you will lose friends if you continue to ask for gas, I DON'T agree with that at all. I've never lost a rider and/friend because they were expected to pay for their sets, and I have dozens of riders that I pull each season. All of my friends who are boat owners feel the same way. No one plays for free.

    • @wake_mann

      I fully agree and this is how I charge too. I've been doing it for over a decade now and never lost a friend over it. Thanks for the support my friend!

    Have you tried skiing? Would love to see a series of you learning to ski if your think that would be fun at all

      @wake_mann  3 года назад +2

      Hi Will, I haven't tried skiing. Ever since I received a total knee replacement when I was 14, on my 2nd now and its running on empty, I have not done well where my legs have to work mostly independent of each other and more risk of injury. This is why I gravitated towards board sports in high school. I do ok when my legs are forced to work together. Otherwise, I would agree it would be a fun video series.

    Awesome video... now that the weather is getting nice, people are starting to venture out and shop for boats... maybe you could do a video helping folks who want in to the towsports world, but dont know what to look for or where to start. Not so much how to get a good deal, but more of how to find the boat they want. New/used, vdrive(best) vs direct drive vs forward drives vs jets because they all market themselves as “surf” and it can get confusing for people new to the market. If someone asks me what kind of boat should they get to fish in the morning and surf later... id say 1st.. surf in the morning as it will be calm and clear...ect but all kidding aside i would tell them forward drive... because some are being made with trollers on the bow, factory fish finders and gps... ect and can still surf. Now if they or their parents water ski primarily, go after a purpose built ski boat, flat bottom direct drive ... and all that speedy goodness.
    Now if they want to tube and board, ski somewhat, and surf and not want to fish.... a vdrive towsports boat is what they should look at.
    Now if they dont want a real boat and would rather have a thing with 2 jetski engines... they know what option that is.😀

    He we did a calculation on ownership and came up with very close numbers we called it 125 per hour ...but we also came up a depredation schedule per hour of use ... can you calculate that as well like to see if the number come out close to yours as well awesome video

      Thank you! My hourly calculation taking my depreciation method into consideration for 100 hours of use per year is only $1 less than my calculation taking the whole payment amount into consideration in place of interest and depreciation separately.

    Man, sometimes your content is great. But you have really lost me lately with the waiver and asking for boat money. I can’t imagine having a 200k boat, a couple $xxxx in boards and gear, and hitting people up over $100 in gas money. My wife and I have had more enjoyable times watching and helping people learn to participate behind the boat. We didn’t buy the boat with the expectation that others would chip in. The fun times and laughs make the costs a distant memory. I can always make more money.

    You did not mention the potential expense for a complete engine failure that is out of warranty. A lot of people this winter had frozen blocks and insurance is telling them to bad oh so sad. Your next video should be you flushing a 100 dollar bill down the toilet and telling people if this upsets you than boat ownership is not for you. It’s much more realistic than your breakdown. I would also Quit asking your friends for gas money too or you might run out of friends. Remember it was your idea to buy the boat not theirs.

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  3 года назад

      I don't need the kind of friends who think they should be able to ride on my boat for free. I've been doing it for about 10 years now so all of the freeloaders font bother to ask any more. I am perfectly fine not having them out on my boat.

    • @clarkgwozdecki6782
      @clarkgwozdecki6782 3 года назад +1

      @@wake_mann That’s only because you have a boat loan. If you own a boat that was paid for gas is chump change and you would not be wasting your time doing spreadsheets.Keep the videos coming though man I like them

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  3 года назад

      I agree, if i was rich i wouldn't worry about people pitching in. I started having people pitch in so I dont lose my ass giving people free rides and I can use my boat as much as i want. I don't use spreadsheets to determine what people pay, I only used spreadsheets in my videos to help explain. I used to split up the fuel expense for the truck and boat for the day amongst the number of people in the boat whether they boarded or not. I have relaxed some and only make people pay for the fuel they use behind my boat, so sitters dont typically pay. Either way, to each their own and thanks for the support on my videos!
