    0:00 - Intro
    0:05 - Cut 1 of 5 (Small MDF circle)
    1:05 - Cut 2 of 5 (Larger plywood circle)
    1:49 - Cut 3 of 5 (Circular cutting board)
    2:47 - Cut 4 of 5 (Hardwood circle)
    2:59 - Cut 5 of 5 (Softwood circle)
    There are a number of different solutions for cutting circles in woodworking but most of them are not ideal. Jigsaws and coping saws are not accurate, bandsaws are expensive and produce a circle with a jagged edge, router guides and attachments take time to setup. The router table jig demonstrated in this video solves most, if not all of these problems.

    This is a great system. Using one to make a sun filter housing for a refractor telescope.

      Thanks! Yes, it's great for small circles and that was the original reason why I built this jig.

    OK, this was brilliant with much finer results than a bandsaw jig. Thanks for creating and sharing.

      I'm pleased you noticed the safety aspect. A significant amount of thought went into how this could be achieved safely. Especially when I decided to make a RUclips video for it! Thanks.

    For some reason I thought it was going to be something like I recently saw from Tamar 3x3, but this one is new to me and is incredibly simple - thanks!

    • @kiwiworkshop
      @kiwiworkshop  2 года назад +1

      Glad you like it. I've seen similar variations but all involved fingers getting close to the router bit. I think the design I came up with strikes a good balance between simplicity and safety. It does also produce very nice and clean results. Thanks.

    • @willbephore3086
      @willbephore3086 2 года назад

      @@kiwiworkshop yeah its clean and the simple added step makes it super safe!
      The one I referenced is actually done with a plunge router, so there's no finger-bit situation involved. It's pretty cool actually (if you wanna check it out on Tamar's 3x3 channel) but does require a slightly more involved jig than this.
      They're both able to make real small perfect circles without a hole, which most others I've seen cannot.

      @@willbephore3086 thanks for the heads up re Tamar's jig. I just had a look and that looks like a great option if you don't have a router table. And also don't want a hole in the middle of your circle.
      Another advantage of using the router table which I don't think I've mentioned is dust collection. At 0:48 in my video, you get a nice close up of the dust getting sucked into the dust port, well most of it anyway!

    • @willbephore3086
      @willbephore3086 2 года назад

      @@kiwiworkshop wasn't tracking that for some reason but yes that's a very relevant factor. Also, yours is on whole a simpler approach, at least if you've got a router table. I haven't made either setup and might have to make both just to try them out and have the options available.

    • @kiwiworkshop
      @kiwiworkshop  2 года назад +1

      @@willbephore3086 yeah, it would be good to have both options available. Tamar's would also work well for a circle too large to handle on the router table.

      Thanks. If you search in youtube for "table saw with router table" or keywords along those lines, you should see examples similar to mine. I might make a video for it but have some others planned first.

      I've noticed you can use the fence of the tablesaw which is great. I haven't seen version yet but I will find them.
      Thanks!

    • @kiwiworkshop
      @kiwiworkshop  Год назад

      Hope you managed to find another video or work it out. I did see another one very similar to mine but can't find the video. Yes, the fence of the table saw doubles as the router fence which is great. A perfect solution for saving space in the workshop! In summary, I planed down a length of wood to fit perfectly in the gap between the two metal sides of the table saw fence. Then built a basic router table fence with the back end of it attached to the wood that slots into the tablesaw fence. Obviously a bit more to it than, that but I'm pretty sure you will get the idea. For the router table, you can basically follow any DIY router table tutorial. Something else to keep in mind is if you want dust collection. I made an open channel in my router table fence and attached a dust port on one end. Hope this helps!

    Great method. Can you share how you made that router table using the Stanley table saw?

    • @kiwiworkshop

      Yes, this method works great. I might create a video or blog post that shows the combined table saw + router table but have some others planned first. A few other people have done this and if you search in RUclips for "table saw with router table" you will probably find some similar to mine. It's a great option for saving space in your workshop. My table saw is actually a Dewalt, but yes it does look like a Stanley!
