At least one more and maybe went to three, four more. That was a great Bears team, give buddy Ryan credit he was a defensive guru, coached three super bowl defenses: NYJets. Minnesota and "da Bears"
3:46 some insight into why Jim McMahon couldn’t stay on the field. He played recklessly, took way too many hits, and his coaches and teammates lauded him for it. He was only 6’ tall, he should have avoided punishment and he would have played longer
100% agree. and it was a more risky way to play back then when the QBs were not protected by the rules. 1988 when he came back from shoulder surgery even McMahon realized how his career hang in the balance with his health. he was much more protective, and rightly so, and he also realized he could be shipped out-and he was-to san diego.
@@CJinsoo part of the reason he got traded by the Bears was because he was more protective of his body that season. Dan Hampton went so far as to publicly accuse of him of faking his injuries that year. Unreal
@@Ditka-89 I remember that now. Overall, I think the team was coming apart at the seams and this was one aspect. It was time to end the McMahon era, too fragiule, too much of a risk, too much drama. In 1988, before they played New England, McMahon made these unnecessary personal shots at Flutie. Flutie played for the Bears because the Bears wanted him-it was mutual. Not sure why Mcmahon felt obliged to bring it up 2 years later? I think McMahon got hurt again in that game and missed several games the rest of the way. Should have traded him after 86 but i wonder what kind of market there would be for QB who was going to miss the next season recovering from shoulder surgery, probably not much?
Mike Ditka lost confidence in Vince Evans. Which makes no sense, since Bob Avellini was already on his way out. Vince Evans was the starter for both (1980 & 1981) seasons. By (1982), JIM McMahon struggled as a rookie, and Mike Ditka made Vince Evans the scapegoat. It makes no sense to start Bob Avellini, over Vince Evans who is the better passer & runner, who can make plays and expand the passing game.
Buddy Ryan and Mike Ditka getting along like two best friends here! 😂😂😂
Fast forward 36 months later in Miami lol
Because they aren't on the football field
Two of the best Ditka and buddy,
This is absolutely fascinating. He’s so mild here. His comfort level grew quick. It’s amazing how much changes.
Omg that perm 😂😂😂😂😂
From Chicago's CBS O&O, WBBM-2
Those fans in the audience asked some good questions. They seemed to be smarter back then.
great memories
This is great before the 85.bears
is that a perm and a dye? wow!
He had a tremendous run although they never got back to the super bowl.
This is amazing thanks for posting.
40+ years later and the Bears still haven't solved their QB situation.
Rex n ryan buddy daddy n momma
3:40 here comes some foreshadowing
How to keep up the team's intensity for 16 games in 1982, eh...
Unfortunately there was not 16 games in 1982
The 85 Bears should have won a few more Super Bowls.
It's hard to win more than 1 Super Bowl in the same season. J/k

The 49ers acquired Jerry Rice, allowing Joe Montana to really hit his stride
kinda crazy that when Bears won SB 20 they were youngest team in league and then never went back...disappointing

Hes not drunk for this show. What gives?
True , Ditka does drink quite a bit. He once owned a restaurant in Naples,Florida . It failed and he was drunk and nasty to his employees.
