As for the darkness and violence, it is the chaos within his mind , which he points out in the beginning - “you might find yourself inside the mind of the illest of our time”.
Of course there's enough posturing to have a double on "Illest," but the song definitely ends on the sad side, "Look for all the answers that I never seem to find / Till then, I guess I'm still the illest of our time". Actually, the whole stanza before that is, IMO, about his brain damage: "I don't feel so fresh, my bro / Things get slurry, speaking slow / Head in Hong Kong, wonton soup / Is what I have for brains, I know " He's basically saying he has noodles for brains, and then goes on to say he's looking at death "knocking on the sky", but doesn't think he's going anywhere good "banished from the heavens." He's in an impossible place "corner of my cornea and mind" (cornea is a sphere which has no corners), and looking for answers that he never finds. Kinda sad. Despairing. Definitely different from Hi Ren musically, but still deep (and clever with the words).
I agree with you. I love Ren. I wanted to love this more (I have a problem with violent imagery). he knew that the main bar was Robin Hood - that is why everything stopped in order to emphasise it. I hated the violence (my own issue).
OMG you didn’t do Violets tale? You need that part so it makes sense. Please do that next. Think along the lines that Ren is ill and then look at the other meanings secondary. You definitely grasped a lot of the meanings though. I find Ren really easy to understand as I’m British. Literally word for word from first listen. It’s knives and bats here, not guns so that’s not necessarily an old school thing. I look forward to hearing you doing more Ren 🐇🕳️🖤

"banished from the heavens" is a reference to the fallen angels. God cast them from heaven for their sins.
