It is truly astonishing how Fegerl can block so many loops from the heaviest-hitter in TT. This blocker vs looper match is very entertaining since it displays the best of both players (in particular, there are a lot of montage material for FZD). FZD got turned on from 6:7 in the 7th set. What a great Polish open.
+perniciousnc Actually, it's because FZD doesn't impart as much spin to the ball as Zhang Jike does. It's the paradox between spin and power. If you watch Zhang Jike's match with Fegerl, even though Zhang Jike lost, you can clearly see that Fegerl has more trouble blocking his shots because they are much spinnier. Less spinny shots, even if they have more power, are actually easier to block. Notwithstanding, Fegerl has amazing anticipation and ball feeling.
ItsCrystal not really. Potential doesn't mean much. Xu Xin is supposed to have potential to be better than Ma Long and ZJK too (according to LGL). But that hasn't happened. FZD is much younger than Fegerl. Chances are that Fegerl will never beat FZD.
Fegerl Beast mode - ON! one of the best matches where European played against top Chinese player, FZD is really mentally strong for his ages and his experience helped him to celebrate today
FZ in the 7th game started a screaming as on the beginning of his carrer / for example when he played against Wang Liqin- old champion , my favourite/. He was in the 7th game very irritated . He was fighting about honor of Chinese National Team. But Fegerl was very close to make surprise. His block is very very well. But also service and bh and fh topspin. However FZ was one side who attacked as first more often. Sorry for my english but I'm from Poland.
+Thomas S I know people get excited when a European player challenges the Chinese but, yes, most of Fergel's serves are illegal. There's no way he can do this in the OG or WC and get away with it.
Please watch Fegerl at 8:35 (including the following slow motion) - it seems, that he was a frog in his first life. XD Nevertheless, he has my utmost respect. (Y)
Stefan fegerl was better than xu xin lol.Anyways jokes beside.I thought his win against zjk was good ,but obviously zjk is in bad shape and he had a lot of lucky points in the end.And I thought he would loose badly against fan zhendong, but he proved me wrong.I think his blocking technic looks so ugly ,but it's so amazing and save and I can't believe he took fzd into a 7 set match. He even forced him to give 100% in the end.Keep it up fegerl:)
+greenLinkLP FZD didn't go 100%, FZD was in the zone at the end of hte match,. it's 120%. Rarely foreigners force chinese to get into the zone. The last time I recall a foreign force a chinese into the zone is boll vs ZJK like 4 years back.
I thought it would be a rape after watching the first set. But Fegerl played really well after that, a lot of pressure for Fan! Fegerl has done extremely well recently. He has improved a lot! Any credits to her wife Li Qiangbing and his father-in-law, the Chinese national coach Li Xiaodong?
+Jian Lu They were married several years ago. They had a lovely baby this year. Li Qiangbing immigrated to Austria for more chances to play internationally a long time ago.
*Why does Fan Zhendong seem to work harder to beat Fegerl 4 - 3 at the final than Xu Xin 4 - 2 at the semi-final when Xu Xin is obviously a much stronger player than Fegerl? The answer is what I call the "unfamiliarity factor." That is, the talented but inexperienced Fan Zhendong usually meets one of the world's top 10 players at the final of an open. Fegerl is not, but a dark horse in my opinion. I bet next time we'll see the usual score of 0 - 4 or 1 - 4 if Fegerl plays against one of the Chinese "Big Four."*
Good on fergel he put in 100% in this tournament and against the chinese he almost caused a huge upset against fan zhendong after his win against zhangbjike amazing form!
7th set, beast mode... I'd have to agree, Fan had to put everything into it to win. He may have been too casual after the blowout in set 1, which may have mentally put him into cruise mode for a bit. Fegerl has nothing to lose, and he put his heart into it... literally. Excellent showdown. Glad to see other players testing the Chinese dominance juggernaut for once.
Stefan can push Fan until 3-4 because of his backhand block (in my perspective) , He use Fan power spin to push backhand block also power full. One more, Stefan can place the ball in right position, actually when Fan use his forehand spin in backhand position..
+DiaboloMenthe18 The first place winner for Men's and Women's singles gets $14,000 USD, but the main reason this tournament and the Swedish Open (coming up in mid November) is because many top Chinese players need a minimum of 5 World Tour tournaments to qualify for the World Tour Grand Finals in Lisbon in December and these are the last two tournaments of the World Tour 2015. The good news is, you can expect many top players at the Swedish Open and at the World Tour Grand Finals as well. 8>)
Dang... Too many times I've said "no way!" watching this. Fegerl's serve seem as illegal to me as a 14 year old girl, but all the respect to him nonetheless
Man, FZD was playing with him. Watch it again and watch how FZD is basically hitting hum the ball quickly to the where the opponent is standing and only on latter half of the 7th does FZD started to play both sides of the table. It was more or less a practice round for him. LGL knew exactly what would happen if FZD did both left and right attacks. Its all about the money man, nobody wants to watch a slaughter game.
Ok, so now that u have revealed ur technique and since it works with almost every player, it won't be that successful next time, cuz in China i'm pretty sure some1 is already mimicking the same style, and it also goes with the Chinese training of pingpong rules, Fegerl doesnt expend too much strength by blocking and when the time comes for rally he has already save energy on him, Well played! i gotta say, but i would have preferred that he had used this technique in some other opportunity such us olympic games or smth else. Let's see how it goes in the future...
Hi, I'm watching this match from 2023. I've been a big fan for quite a few years and now I'm starting to review his early matches. He has been amazing me since he was a teenager boy. Bravo, Fan Zhendong! Wish best luck to him for the coming Paris Olymipics Game 2024!
***** It was in February, so he had just turned 16. He was ranked #44 in the world at that time, and Freitas was #25. Fan would then make his way into the top 10 of the world ranking only 5 months later.

+ttlondon2012 Thanks for making this man!
+ttlondon2012 I think this Polish open deserves a top 10 points video. Hope you and ittf can make one.
+perniciousnc maybe top 100 points

+deep dark his footwork needs some work, but he really could beat FZD, he has the potential
ItsCrystal not really. Potential doesn't mean much. Xu Xin is supposed to have potential to be better than Ma Long and ZJK too (according to LGL). But that hasn't happened. FZD is much younger than Fegerl. Chances are that Fegerl will never beat FZD.
+deep dark well yea, potential is nothing if u don't use it
What a great Polish open!!! Fegerl has my utmost respect, too! He was just like a robot blocker, the best one, LOL.
One of the best matches, for sure.
What a close game! Incredible the reflexes of Fegerl! WOW!
just awesome performance from both players, incredible block shot from Fegerl but still fan zhendong was on fire in the 7th game
Austria almost shook the emperors of table tennis! Table tennis is just getting more and more exciting!
Incredible match!!
Fegerl proved the semi-final was not an accident.
His rank will go higher.

does anybody else think that fergels serve is illegal?
I'm Not sure but he hides them completely. ...illegal!
looks illegal to me.
+Thomas S
it is illegal for me
his left hand was hidding it until the ball goes out
+Thomas S I know people get excited when a European player challenges the Chinese but, yes, most of Fergel's serves are illegal. There's no way he can do this in the OG or WC and get away with it.
+Thomas S Looks fine. Fegerl service is better than Fan.

+Martin Artz xDDDDDD
+Martin Artz hahaha good one dude
This was such a damn amazing match.
What a match, worthy of a final.

I think there are a lot of players with great fighting spirits. Mizutani for examples
Watch him in some of his older matches like Japan opens

I don't understand your comment
Someone is butthurt that an European can get in troubles the big Chinese players ;)
fegerl at his best ! what a great tuornament he had !

+Jian Lu Nah, Li Xiaodong is full of bullshit.
+Zhe Feng her wife? is he a she?
tsering dawa Lama Thanks for pointing that out. Always mess gender up as non native English speaker.

+ty0ung0s Sure, just like what happened with Yuya Oshima.
+ty0ung0s don't forget. ★★★★★
Fegerl is really used to Fan's high intensity. Very interesting, since Fan basically loops like a machine gun.
amazingly all points made was a highlight! so, i guess title is not wrong. :-)
entertaining match, good job fegersl stefan
Is Fegerl's serve legal?
FZD's level of pressure was similar to ML's when he was facing Oshima. Both overcame ultimately their weaknesses and won of course.
Никогда ранее не слышал про Стефана Фегерля из Австрии, ГРОМКО услышал, молодец! В полуфинале Фегерль обыграл самого Чжан Цзике!!!
the power in fans loop kills......
Good on fergel he put in 100% in this tournament and against the chinese he almost caused a huge upset against fan zhendong after his win against zhangbjike amazing form!
Never seen Fegerl in game, a good player though. Very solid defense skill.
7th set, beast mode... I'd have to agree, Fan had to put everything into it to win. He may have been too casual after the blowout in set 1, which may have mentally put him into cruise mode for a bit. thumbs down for the loud intro audio :/
FEGERL Stefan is gonna be a thing after this tournament
fegerl just insane player
Zhang Jike vs Fan Zhendong would've been legendary!!
OMG.. 13:00 light speed by fan zhendong
Fan, so much overwhelming power from both wings
nice performance

super
FAN Zhendong ON FIRE vs Ma Long in God Mode.
This will be a memorable game
+MS.P Ma Long in god mode will be too much for Fan.
+LegIsLate yes I now. I'm just dreaming
接戦で良い試合でした!!!
13:05 ma long :)
Great game
Fegerl's serve is obviously illegal, his technic is awful, but his determination and "focuseness" is something i want to applaud.
I'm don't know how Stefan Fegerl is not in top 10!
I like Fegerl. Beat ZJK and almost beat FZD. I'm sure Fegerl soon be in Top 10. Great concentration and great challenge. Keep going.
Also took out Marcos Freitas in the earlier stages!
Fegerl is very good. Fan is just crazy.
final de lujo
sin duda fegerl empujo a fan a darlo todo
Reverse pendulum of Fegerl seems like a illegal one in 3:25.
at Kuwait open FEGERL Stefan lost 4 game to Malong. but now he improve so much and chinese player have trouble with him.
+Tuong Hoang can you help me with a chinese translation?
+HMQ sorry I can not speak chinese

Someone knows the winner's prize. Cause we saw so many good players at this open
+DiaboloMenthe18 They were here couse they haven't got aim to come back to china after tournament in sweden.

+Adam Bobrow Oh I see, thanx for the answer! Yes I look forward to see them in the Swedish Open too!
面白かった!!!
I hope what Fegerl can win ):
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Maybe Fegerl will be the next best thing from Austria after Schlager, although he doesn't seem to have the genius that Schlager had.
Dang... Too many times I've said "no way!" watching this. Fegerl's serve seem as illegal to me as a 14 year old girl, but all the respect to him nonetheless
1:57
Atlast, we will see another form of Final where not both of them is Chinese
13:20

I am big fans of Fan zhedong, wonderboy for gold at rio..the problem he has Ma long and Xuxin imao
Hi, I'm watching this match from 2023. I've been a big fan for quite a few years and now I'm starting to review his early matches. He has been amazing me since he was a teenager boy. Bravo, Fan Zhendong! Wish best luck to him for the coming Paris Olymipics Game 2024!
i regret Ma Long withdrew from this Polish Open, or it will be another story to tell.
Did fan zhendong ever loose to a european ?
+Sepp Elz Only once. He lost 0-4 against Marcos Freitas at the 2013 Qatar Open.
***** It was in February, so he had just turned 16. He was ranked #44 in the world at that time, and Freitas was #25. Fan would then make his way into the top 10 of the world ranking only 5 months later.
Lucky can't bring stefan to win :(
cang thang
super talent vs illegal servicer
terrible illegal servicer. fegerl must be know shame himself.
china always win!!
Fantastic footwork
This hard to play?
