    UPDATE:
Clip 02-06 is still blocked in Russia for some reason but Clip 03-06 has been unblocked and is now viewable worldwide.
An excellent documentary about the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan. The legendary hotel manager and majority owner at the time, Stanley Bard, talks about the many famous and sometimes infamous people who have stayed at the Chelsea over the many years of its existence. God bless Stanley Bard who gave these people a home, and without whom New York and the world would be poorer. The final scenes in segment 6 were done on the roof of the Chelsea on September 11, just after 9 am. It's all very emotional and tragic.
The documentary is in six parts, and each segment is about ten minutes in length. It was produced in September, 2001. I recorded this legally over DVB-T a long time ago with my Elgato EyeTV. If you feel this is in violation of your copyright, I will take all everything down, no problem. Please let me know and I will do it. I am only a fan and not making any money from these video clips.

He was not primaritly doing it for the money either. He did it because it seemed the right thing to do at that time. It was a different era and New York City was very different in those days.

I believe this is the way documentaries should be done. You do not try to prove a point or create some sort of narrative. You try to show what reality is like today and what it was really like in the old days. You let people who were there at the time spreak and you precent this more or less unfiltered. If you don't then what you get is a fictional story and not a documentary.

Hey mowglix .i am from europe and i am very interested in the history of this hotel. Can i ask you a few questions that maybe sound weird 2you but in europe we may have a different hotel culture.who knows . I would be glad if you could give me some answers. First where andy warhols friends so rich that they could effort to live their for such a period ? And pay each day that room rent or was this some sort of contract. Second i always wondered if theire drug use was legal to the management .if not did the room cleaning staff swipe their drugs ?or was there no room cleaning at all an did they have clean their rooms themself.greetz from belgium

    • @MowgliX

@@yvanherman3733 There used to be hotels like this especially in places like Paris and Rome, London and also New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and other major cities where you could stay for longer periods of time and pay less than in a regular hotel. It was quite common in the old days. I'm not sure if there are that many left today.
Check out the film À bout de souffle (Breathless) from 1960. Patricia, the American girl played by Jena Seberg, lives in such a place. (But oh dear, Jean Seberg was another tragic case.) Some of Andy's friends had trust funds or were supported by their families, like Edie and Ritchie and Brigid Berlin, but most of them were just struggling artists.
The owners of the hotel would sometimes let people stay even though they were unable to actually pay just then and would accept artworks as payment. Stanley Bard was one of those people. He loved the artists. Stanley suffered a stoke in 2017 and passed away. He was very tolerant during his tenure as the hotel's manager.
I have no idea what kind of arrangements he and the other Chelsea Hotel managers had with the tenants. Of course drugs were not tolerated by the management but how can you stop people from drinking or doing drugs? I suppose you could get cleaning.
The front desk must have kept track of what was going on in the hotel, especially after what happened to Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen in 1978. Also, check out the Wikipedia article.
