That's an unfortunate placement of the inward-facing camera. Your rear-view mirror completely blocks the view of the driver's side window.
Before I found Jay's review of the Vantrue N4 Pro dash cam, I bought the same model on the strength of a review I found just a few weeks earlier. In that earlier video, there were numerous comparisons with other dash-cam brands that clearly demonstrated how good the Vantrue N4 Pro is in reading normally hard-to-read license plates in moving vehicles.
However, in Jay's video, it didn't seem that the Vantrue N4 Pro's front-facing camera was reading license plates as well as in the earlier review. Perhaps settings in Jay's camera were not set at their highest resolution?
Nevertheless, I appreciate Jay's coverage of this dash cam and the time he put into producing it. Nice job!

He may not have the HDR settings enabled. This renders the footage actively and makes it more clear between frame by frame
can you disable collision detection i have some very loud subwoofers that would definitely set it off constantly

I am more interested in cams that will record motion when parked and will not drain the power supply. Any recommendations?
Love the video review. Does the OBD2 plug allow the osrking mode to be activated like hard wiring the camera, also, does it activates the parking mode. Finally, does this means not depletes the car battery ? Thank you.
Low voltage protection
It has a smart low voltage protection system that will automatically shut off the power to your dash cam when the battery voltage drops to 11.6V or 23.2V, thus preventing it draining the battery.
what is the size or recording every hour with 3 of the cameras active?

Edit: Do you have an Amazon link to the hardwire cable you used? Did you call it an OBD2 connector? I managed to find one that is "OBD to USB C". I've actually never heard of that before and will need to check if my 2015 Hyundai ix20 has that port.

I don’t think there is but did I see that you can turn the screen off? Can’t remember. Have a look at the menu!

What software do you use to zoom in and clear up the license plates? A still or a moving car? I just got a dash cam and the Vantrue app doesn’t have those features. Do you use iMovie or Final Cut Pro to do that, or what other software?
I’ve never needed or used that kind of software. It’s always been pretty clear.
Thanks for an excellent review, Jay. Two questions (1) Can the App support two such cameras on two vehicles (2) Amazon reviews have many complaints about the App. What is your opinion?

Hi David and thanks! Yes, the app would be fine with two cameras because it would only detect the one nearest to you. I find the app to work well. Bear in mind, I do t think you’ll use the app much.
Did you have a cam in your 996, Jay? I have a Viofo in my 997 (front cam only), but not sure how I can run a wire to the rear. Tech just isn't my thing. you'd think they could mate the front and rear wireless. That said, I LOVE my dash cam!
I did! The wire just goes behind the trim. It was very easy indeed! Just pokes in behind the trim.
@@JAYREAD Thanks, Jay! I might give it a try. The Vantrue here looks pretty good. A cam that can read license plates seems the only way to go. Some of the videos of dash cams are of such poor quality, you can barely tell what is going on.

What are the "electrostatic stickers" for in the box? I seen two installs of this on youtube and noone seems to reference them.
You can stick those to the windshield and then stick the gadget to the stickers.

Hi Jay, Thank you for the video. I have a Vantrue N4 Pro, my first dashcam and it seems to work well. I have watched my dashcam videos with the Vantrue Dashcam Player. My question is how do I prepare videos in the event for evidence? Also how are videos made like yours (not expecting to be as good production quailty), I am not interested in up load to youtube and alike. If you can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks
Hi Joe, very happy to help but can you be a bit more specific? You want to know how I make my videos?
@@JAYREAD Not so much how you make videos like yours. When I need to prepare a video for a court or insuance is the main thing. Also Vanture dashcam captures the videos in 3 minute blocks, how to "edit" and package more than a 3 minute sequence. I don't need to add any commentry or images, just the Vanture videos alone. Just the simplist editing.
Note: My pc did not have the correct extension to play using Media player, i now have it and can play the videos on MS Media Player.

I’m really considering this dash cam! I’m not sure do I need the voltage display hardware kit? I feel lost and don’t want to mess up anything on my new vehicle.
Buy the Dashcam and the OBD2 kit like I did in the video and then just plug it in and go! That’s it!

Does the OBD2 kit allow parking mode? I recently bought the camera with the hardwire kit without knowing the existence of the OBD2 kit. Do both kits serve the same purpose?
@@ON760 as I understand it, the kits do the same thing and, yes, OBD allows parking mode.

Nope. The device won’t allow it to drain the battery. You’re safe.

I’m not sure but if you’re at the stage of an external mic then why not just go the whole hog and hire a film crew to travel with you, get the lighting done too whilst you’re in there?

How does the camera read license plates. That's very important in an accident, especially a hit and run. All seem to show the same pic with the camera that's being purchased having the "best and clearest pic" of the license plate, but I want to see a REAL license plate read view, from a review.
I don't have the 18v outlet...what can I use?

Try taking the merely card out of the camera and transferring using an adapter. That’s the way I do it and it’s always worked for me.
Also, use the app on your phone to transfer too.

The description of it being 4k is misleading because it’s only “4k” if the cabin and rear camera are off . Otherwise front is 2k and cabin and rear are 1080p

I'm in Australia and purchased this Vantrue N4 Pro 4K dashcam for my Mazda 2 (2020) and found on opening the box that it is very heavy and BIG. There is no reason from a design standpoint to make the whole that heavy and the cord (from the cigarette lighter) is not long enough to hide it in the panels so it had to go direct and in front of the dash - very ugly arrangement. The double sided tape that came with the factory couldn't hold the dashcam on the windscreen because it is THAT heavy. I got rid of the factory tape and used a 3M tape and it also couldn't hold it on the windscreen due to the WEIGHT. Moved to using Loctite superglue and it held only for a few days. I'm considering throwing it in the trash bin. This device is too heavy for ANY glue to hold it on the windscreen. Very badly designed. Product not tested at all.If you live in a country that has a normal summer (30+ C), you wont be able to keep it glued to the windscreen. Highly recommend you do NOT buy this dashcam. You have been warned.
