    Fun fact: Plastic Man's first appearance dates back to 1941. He was part of the Golden Age and debuted just 3 years after Superman and 2 years after Batman. Unfortunately the publisher he was under, Quality Comics, went under in 1956. That's when DC obtained the rights to the character along with other quality comics characters like Quicksilver (different from Marvel and older with another 40s debut) who later became DC's Max Mercury (a member of the Flash Family). It's hilarious because the Elongated Man was only created for DC comics in 1960 because the writer didn't know DC had obtained the rights to Plastic Man. Plastic Man is a beyond iconic Superhero who has inspired and continues to inspire within Superhero media. It's a shame that he isn't globally as popular as Superman and Batman. Even if not a direct inspiration, characters like Mr. Fantastic and Luffy have probably been indirectly influenced by Plastic Man.

    • @wr5488
      @wr5488 25 дней назад +6

      lol Plastic Man isn’t remotely that strong. Hes helpless when he’s molecules (a mage blasted him apart, he survived as molecules but was powerless/immobile for 3000 years and went crazy). Hes been one shot KILLED by a lantern before. A demon lord (either Satannus or Johnny Blaze) one shot him too and Zariel (the League’s angel) had to take Plas to heaven so he could recover and not die.
      Buddy doesn’t have infinite stretching or molecular control.

    • @ComposedSage75
      @ComposedSage75 25 дней назад +11

      @ I disagree. I’m not saying that he’s the strongest ever nor in general. Also, just to be clear, I’m saying he has feats/attributes that make him a formidable opponent if it ever came down to that. His powers are generally only limited to his imagination and temperament, so he's kind of like a power ring personified. His stretching powers have no known limit and can stretch his body to any length or size without constraint. Plastic Man’s body is capable of stretching far beyond the natural limits of human flexibility. He does have control over his molecular structure and can regenerate but the instance in the 3000 years he was immobilized is about the only thing I can agree with you on in this.
      I looked into this and haven’t found any evidence that he was ended by a Lantern (though if you know let’s hear it). Also, the closest thing to an “end” was an instance in “Plastic Man No More #1” (September 2024) that depicts Plastic Man slowly melting away due to a Death Ray blast, with no known cure. However, this is not explicitly stated as his end, but rather a gradual disintegration.
      Plastic Man was not ended by Satanus in DC Comics either. Plastic Man was possessed by Satanus’ mask, which granted him immense power, but also put him under demonic influence (Justice League #25, 2011). The League managed to remove the mask, and Zauriel transported Plastic Man to another dimension before helping the League escape Hell. In “Reign in Hell” #1-8, Satanus, along with his sister Blaze, leads a rebellion against Neron, the ruler of Hell. Plastic Man, as part of a team of superheroes, helps to stop Satanus’ plans and ultimately leads to Neron’s downfall.

    Keep in mind that the Madame Rouge from the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon, who possess a weaker version of the comics Plastic Man’s powers, is STILL one of the top 10 or even 5 most dangerous villains in the entire show thanks to how skillfully, effectively and creatively she wields the power she DOES have. It’s like someone threw Plastic Man, Black Widow and the T-1000 into a blender and wound up with a final product that melded all their most dangerous and complimenting characteristics together. She was only bested towards the end of her debut season because she was jumped by multiple combatants at once in the middle of an all-out heroes VS villains brawl (and even THAT was mostly due to the “Conservation of Ninjutsu” trope at play restraining the villains overall effectiveness in the final fight for the sake of storytelling.)
    Batman’s concerns here have some VERY solid foundations if we’re being fair here.

    Plastic Man may be the comic relief former criminal of the Justice League, but when you really think about it, Plastic Man's abilities are so OP that we should be thankful that Batman inspired him to be a superhero and use his powers for good in the comics

    • @wr5488
      @wr5488 25 дней назад +6

      Plas isn’t that OP when you look at like Superman, Lanterns or Flash. Like he’s strong but… in Blackest Night Green Lantern fights thousands of Black Lanterns at once and wins. Whereas Plastic Man is KILLED in one hit by a single lesser black lantern (not a true BL but someone who got turned by the ring).
      Like Plas is strong, but when you compare him to guys who shake galaxies he’s not all that.
      Low key why I feel there should be two justice leagues. One for like the god tier guys and another for the more earth focused heroes.

      I think it was only Batman Brave and the Bold Cartoon that had Batman be Plas's inspiration for heroics. In most canons its usually his own decision to be a hero, whether it be a "I can profit from this" or a "let's flip a coin and see if I turn these gang members into the police" type of backstory. In his original 1941 debut Plas just kinda got powers one day and went "oh I guess I'll be a hero okay :)"
