Most of the Stingers in Afghanistan are used as ‘bling’ by armed groups, as they are very expensive, not so effective against modern NATO aircraft, and the thermal batteries that stingers need are long dead (replacements are very very difficult to obtain, for obvious reasons).

Clark's book, "Ignition" for an idea of the complexity in coming up with rocket propulsion fuels. The Iraqis had not even dug in and prepared to fight an enemy? I believe a company of 80 US troops could have defeated that ISIS attack without any air support!!
