Hi Guys, there is no comment box on my feed so I thought I’d leave my comment here. When I heard you talking about replacing a load bearing beam (that’s holding up the roof) by cutting out the rotten beam measuring it and putting a replacement, I said uh-oh, not that way. You need to put support in, quite a substantial support, before taking out the old rotting beam to replace it. Kind of like jacking up a car to support the car when you replace a tire. Be Safe!!! There’s an article online from the Vancouver Sun, Google it. They purchased it together as a couple (I think it’s just a slip of the tongue on her part - maybe from years of YouTubing/social media promoting her own things, it’s second nature for her to refer to herself, rather than “we”) and they are renovating it together - and good for them, I’m loving watching their progress, so enjoyable and they make a great team! My mom had blackberries. We asked the farmer who grew them across the road. They told us the black berries will always grow as long as they have a water source. In California we get droughts. They disappear but with enough rain they come back. Be careful there could be a constant water source you’re not aware of at the base of the house. The pool or a pipe under the house. They do make for great jam. 😊
Tarp mover is a great idea. I worry about not reinforcing that decaying support beam. Just make a couple 2x4 pack column, cut to size and tap it into place.
I would really recommend to you that if you are planning on keeping the piano in your house while you renovate. To wrap the piano up so it does not get destroyed from dust getting inside of it. It is very expensive to clean out pianos that have dust from a house renovation and just dust that accumulates over time. So I would wrap it up with even just saran wrap and make sure to get all sides of the piano like under the piano especially because dust can get everywhere.
I hoped someone would comment this! We had massive issues getting rid of our blackberries. Please also don't just throw the cuttings into the yard because they absolutely will root again and you'll just spread them more.
I used to live in towns that had tons of blackberries. There were people who had goats you could rent to clear the patches because apparently goats can eat anything. 💕

Hi Jenna, please be careful with putting heavy things underneath trees. This causes the soil to compact which can ultimately lead to the death of the tree. The rule is to keep the entire crown projection of the tree clear. Many trees die after house renovations because of this reason and it would be such a shame if that happend to the trees in your yard. Anyway I love the series, you guys are doing such a good job!!

It's probably worth it to look into and consult with local experts about what plants are native to the area and will grow well on that slope. A carpet of greenery will be beautiful and much less work than a lawn in the long run.
Yeah, I'm wondering about a clover lawn; whimsical, insect friendly and low maintence. Unless one or both of the dogs are like my pug and like to capture bees and butterflies as involentary playmates. Come summer at least one a week needs rescuing.
@@RD0204 hi! Clover is actually invasive and it would probably be best to look into native plants before planting clover. While it is very green and has pretty flowers, native flowers should be considered first for those native pollinators
When it comes to planning your landcaping, I highly recommend sustainable native plants to attract a wide range of local species, including pollinators. We did it years ago and it looks amazing with our MCM home.
Oh my, house foundation issues too & maybe the pool? Lol, "your neighbor may have a pool soon.". Your ability to look on the brighter or humorous side of an enormous project is why I keep watching & wishing you the very best. I believe you will get this done, one way or another. Even foundations can be repaired, with an Engineer & or experienced Contractor of course, but they can be rebuilt, for a price. The big question is, will the price be worth it to restore, or is bulldozing & rebuilding better? Don't be afraid to cut bait if restoring is more than bulldozing & rebuilding. I know you will figure it out. You got this.
Craftsman here: A large part of the disposal costs of the garden waste could have been saved with a shredder, especially as it provides a great basis for the future garden ;-)
Landscaping does have a shelf life. Shrubs get overgrown and too big for the area it was planted in. Same with tress. Save your pictures so that when it comes time, you can maybe show them to a landscape designer and they can give you a plan or just ideas. With tree and plant development and proper planning, you will be able come up with plants that are more appropriate for your growing zone and climate. With all the rock you have, it would be so pretty with a bunch of evergreens and woodland plantings. It could look so pretty in time. And if you design it properly, you could make it as low maintenance as you like. ❤😊
I'm thinking one of those clover lawns; great for insect life, low maintence and very whimsical.... unless you've a dog who likes to make bees and butterflies involantary playmates like my pug. We always have to rescue the poor things.
Perhaps you could turn your hillside into a terraced garden. FYI blackberry bushes are hard to keep from coming back. Also be careful on how much greenery you remove from hillside. It is what keeps your dirt from moving down to the neighbors
i really love that remote look, those rocky slopes and the whole glass front of your house. Great way to remove all the wilderness from it so you can start with the heavy work
I really admire the amount of work you guys are doing. I'm a gardener and native plant landscaper, and absolutely agree that stuff needed to come out. I'm really happy that you're invested in adding plants back into the landscape - just take your time with it, and I suggest contacting native plant greenhouses in your area (a lot of what standard commercial greenhouses sell are exotic ornamentals that have little ecological value or are even invasive (not that every non-native is bad, but do your research)). Not to bum you out, but what's your plan for when all that shrubbery regenerates (cuz it will)? Anyway, happy gardening!
This area was old growth rainforest but very rocky soil.. the native plants are moss, ferns, arbutus, douglas fir.... I wonder what kind of shrubs would grow well. Alder hahahaha.
I highly recommend getting a power washer if you have running water. You’ll need it for your pool also once you start cleaning it up. With every thing you can use it on for your house it would be money well spent.
What a beautiful house you have been restoring and property you have been restoring. Thank God you came along and rescued it. I love watching your progress and cannot wait to see how beautiful it is when you are done. You will have a lifetime to appreciate all the hard work and time that you have put into it. What an amazing project.
I absolutely love this series. The only thing that comes to mind when I see the house and the photos is that the original owners must've been loaded! But I love that you're trying to bring back some of its charm without turning everything beige and grey
Cut it all down and restart. I’ve been doing landscaping for years. Sometimes it all needs to be taken out and reset. A fresh start for years of nice gardening.
I like the part where Jenna asked Nick, "What are we gonna do with all this space?" And Nick sidestepped the question. However, Jenna answered her own question using the old photographs and by uncovering the patio. It's a remarkable property!
Happy and proud of your hard work getting rid of all the brambles, roots and overgrowth. Gotta take it all out and plant when the big stuff with the house is done.
Having done this kind of hard work before you have my admiration and it’s very satisfying to see the before and after. No one can imagine how much hard work it truly is unless you’ve done it yourself. Thanks for all your hard work. It’s looks so much better.
It's amazing how a family who obviously loved the house and had a lot of great times there are no longer there, but the place was sold with so many of their possessions and memories/photos.
This was so satisfying to watch. You two are an inspiration. Jenna I remember your video back when you hit 100,000 subscribers and now you have over 891,000. I'm so happy for you.
For the hilly area of the yard, you can plan out a winding path that goes down the hillside. In the areas between the path, plan out different garden beds filled with native flora, herbs, and flowers. I think midway down the hill it would be nice to create a flat area in the hillside to place a small seating area for a small table and two chairs. It would provide a beautiful, calming place to have a cup of tea or coffee and give a beautiful view of the surrounding area. You could also plan a water feature for the yard that uses the hill to its advantage. A small pool at the bottom of the hill with a faux creek/spring at the top feeding it, following a concrete creek bed. The change in elevation would lend itself to a small waterfall as well. You could put a few small fish in the pool as well.
Ok, IYKYK but seeing Nick fell that tree tells me the man has skills. My father in law would have approved of that notch job and the placement was perfect. Colour me impressed, Nick. That wall looks gorgeous all cleared off. My goodness, it’s a load of work but Jenna, you found yourself a truly special property. Thank you for bringing us along on this journey. ❤
Yard is looking very nice. Lived on the Oregon Coast for years and can tell you that blackberry vines, although very good for food, are extremely invasive if you don't keep up on them. Which you already know, you have a lot more land for use now though. I'd(just me) would pressure wash the rock wall next to the pool, and clear off the old moss, it'll grow back but fresh. On a previous video I made the comment that you may have gotten rid of all the sheetrock, but now you have a buttload of nails to pull. That is a real obsolete unit of measure depending on where you are in the world when it was in use it meant anywhere from 120 to 280 US gal by various definitions. Don't think you could fill up a 30-55 gal barrel, but just thought I'd throw that reference your way. I've heard it my whole life. Love watching you two work on this place. Reminds me of my wife and I when we were a young family. My wife was given the nickname Bulldozer. She says she wishes she still had that energy. Keep on kickin it you two. Mike --- Deb

Yeah, you're doing the right thing with the landscaping. Gotta get rid of the decades of neglect and start over with a clean slate, and also have room for the house work.
15:55 If you take a rope and tie it around the pile you can pull it in bigger clumps. Use a pole to push it trough the pile then tie it around it. That's how my dad always used to take care of tree branches when we cut them down around out house when I was a kid.

Watching your videos helps me not get discouraged working on our place! Thank you! It makes me smile. Though ours is going to take longer...because it's a 7,500sq ft place on 3 acres. It was a mid-century modern place build in the 40s and has a hole in the roof, mold everywhere, and the outside is over grown too! We have been working on it for a year and a half, but we both work full time. So we justcnow have it back to the studs, and have some of the trees and bushes cut back. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and your ups and downs! It's helping us get through it since we are doing it all by our yourselves. You guys are doing great! Keep up the good work and we know how it feels! A lot of work but it will all be worth it in the end!!!

Nice seeing the clearing out of overgrowth and the underbrush. As several have mentioned you will need to stay on top of the berry bushes, anything with ‘runners’ ( branches that can take root) can grow a new plant at each spot it touches the ground.

She does have a great personality, I love it.
Jenn, I loved your videos of crafting, but the house is EVEN better. Your channel is one of my favorites.
Craftsman here: A large part of the disposal costs of the garden waste could have been saved with a shredder, especially as it provides a great basis for the future garden ;-)
Yeah, rent a shredder, it is easier to mulch and then carry in a wheelbarrow...
It's almost as if they don't research anything, tons of information on Google and social media. They are just shooting from the hip.
“OW! …I was gonna swear there, but I didn’t” is literally my life 😂❤
Landscaping does have a shelf life.
Having a hand scythe to cut blackberry vines always worked best for me. ;D
Oh you are a hard working couple! Would a wood chipper have been easier? The tarp was a great idea! Great job
18:21 nick running with that tarp looks like when an octopus coils into a ball except for two of its legs and runs on the ocean floor 😆
Neighbor peek out at 21:27 is awesome.
I saw that! They better all be nice to Jenna and Nick!
Me too😊
Good eye
🤣🤣🤣
😂
Omg the blackberry farm line made me laugh so hard lol. As someone who has had to deal with blackberry, I literally laughed out loud.
Perhaps you could turn your hillside into a terraced garden. FYI blackberry bushes are hard to keep from coming back. Also be careful on how much greenery you remove from hillside. It is what keeps your dirt from moving down to the neighbors
Yes! Plants and mushrooms hold the world together. No joke
You are doing such a great job! The outside is coming along fantastically!
Your neighbors are *thrilled* with what you're doing! You're making amazing progress. You two seem tireless.
Dude... You guys got SO LUCKY with this house. Like... It is truly a diamond in the rough... Also. Why not Peanut Rock for the name..?
Cordless Hedge Trimmer. I have a blackberry 'farm' too and the hedge trimmer cuts like butter.
This is the way
The other useful thing is a strong metal rake to clear away the brambles as you cut them. Brambles laugh at plastic rakes
Thank you. I was just coming here to suggest that.
i really love that remote look, those rocky slopes and the whole glass front of your house.
Satin flower nursery on Vancouver island would be a good resource for native plants! Or maplewood flats on the mainland.
There are indigenous-run nurseries in the area that specialize in native species. Many great options for local sourcing near the home
It only took one little goat in my overgrown back yard...all cleaned up and I gave the goat back to the goat man..he can sell her again !!
this is so cute and silly
Just found your channel, binged your house renovation most of the day, the neighbors must love you for cleaning this house up!
I highly recommend getting a power washer if you have running water. You’ll need it for your pool also once you start cleaning it up. With every thing you can use it on for your house it would be money well spent.
they started this week, so its going to be in the next video I think (saw it on instagram)
I love watching power washing omg that’s gonna be amazing!!!!!
So much this! I
What a beautiful house you have been restoring and property you have been restoring.
How cool is it to have old photos of the house. That's so special 🎉 I hope you find a way to display some when the house is done! ❤
Yeah, hopefully some of the family photos were able to be returned to the seller.
Watching this makes me so happy. But in my head, I see all those vines, and my body screams, "POISON IVY!" Love thr name Peanut House!
The level of perseverance! I continue to be impressed. By muscles, back and feet hurt just watching 😂
You both are so hard working!!!! At the end it will all pay off and be a beautiful house.
Jenna posting makes my day 1000 times better💕
11:43 “Yes, it will be a yumber lard” 😂 Long days, and fantastic work already.
Ok, good, I wasn't the only one
Ugh, the natural beauty of this property is breathtaking. Keep pushing on!
It's refreshing to see young people with such determination you guys are such hard workers and your house and grounds are going to be fantastic! ❤😊
Cut away! It's your property. I love all the exposed rocks. You guys are hard workers and thank goodness you started this project while young!
Can't wait to see you Jenna wearing curlers (17:10) in your new patio ❤
Blackberrys will continue to grow back, so you will be clearing that area for a while until you get all the stubborn roots out!!
This was so satisfying and fun to watch. I’m also glad y’all finally took that one person’s advice who comments on every video telling you to get a tarp to clear out the trash lol I’m so excited to see the final result, that house is a dream
The projects you tackle in a week of recording would take me 300-400 business days. You two are amazing!
Neat to see the old photos and how beautiful it all looked!
😅🤣😂🤣 thanks for the laugh signed going thru herksheimer's at 65 yo due to a parasite cleanse ! )
i LOVE makeover shows and videos, but this one is special because we get to see since day one what you're doing to renovate this house, i'm very invested in this!!! keep up the good work, hope you guys are having the fun it looks like on this process, best wishes ♥
That's how my dad always used to take care of tree branches when we cut them down around out house when I was a kid.
that's the dream, working on a dreamhouse you'll live in with the person you love ❤
SO true! Seems like such a fun adventure. Definitely one they'll be sharing with their families(y?) Once they've settled in.
Glad they've shared it with us too!
WOW the outdoor transformation is amazing, Great Job! I like "The Peanut house" !
This is my favorite new show. Love watching you turn this house back into something great.
Your editing is excellent and your selection and integration of music is great. At 13:06, soft music stopping for your comment, "I was going to swear there, but I didn't," was priceless. Love your droll humor: "Need a wedding bouquet for your upcoming wedding? Let me know. I can make you one. $9.99!"
I went back to your channel page to make sure that I hadn't missed any and I have watched every single one of these the day they come out and I'm kinda cracking up because I never 20 years ago that I would spend my time staring at my phone watching my tiny video screen showing people taking drywall out of their old house and putting it into a dumpster for 10 episodes. But here we are and I'm ready for this one! Lol
You two are the MOST energetic pair on RUclips!! You are doing an absolutely AMAZING job. I hope you are taking care of yourselves and getting enough rest. So fun to watch all that you're doing!!
Another option would have been to rent a chipper. Then you would have very useful mulch. Very nice to see everything cleaned up.
Look at you new boot goofin! This place is looking better and better each week. Bonkers how much work yall are putting in, but at least it looks like yall are getting somewhere!
House name: Peanut 🥜
It's so cool that you have all these pictures, I hope you will frame a few. So nostalgic. ❤
I agree, I love that she went through everything and saved pictures and throughout when she was cleaning pictures when they were cleaning out the house I love that she took the time to do that
Would be really cool to see a collage of old photos beside a collage of new memories in the home 😊
You guys are doing such a great job! You should be very proud of yourselves 😊 I'm very much enjoying these Peanut House videos. I hope Jack and Benson are doing well. I miss them lol
Love the pictures! The lady in the curlers😂definite image from my youth.
I said it before and I said I again you two complement each others to perfection……love you guys….still missing the 4 legged babies…..😊❤❤❤
Lol the neighbor taking a quick peek at 21:24 xD
A lot of work but it will all be worth it in the end!!!
very admirable effort that you’re doing this clean up all by yourselves 👏 you were the right person to come along and save this house back to its original glory 🙌
It's really satisfying to see places (inside and outside) go from messy to neat.
Peanut house is amazing! That backyard is so beautiful, I'm sure once you finish cleaning and power washing, etc... it'll be gorgeous i can't wait for the next episode!
Nice seeing the clearing out of overgrowth and the underbrush. As several have mentioned you will need to stay on top of the berry bushes, anything with ‘runners’ ( branches that can take root) can grow a new plant at each spot it touches the ground.
Love the name "peanut"..! Thank you for sharing all your hard work on this amazing renovation and making it fun to watch!
You guys caught my attention. Those that play together stay together. The Hard work in the yard you’re doing together is so healthy for your life. Congrats guys looking good.
02:00 Wow. Turns out Jenna has a spectacular… personality! Look at her using the manual hands tools and hunching over while Mr. Handsome gets to stand comfortably using a machine to ease his labor. She’s a keeper!
The peanut house ! love it Also it's insane how i love EVERY decision you make for the house, this is like exactly how i would have done it and how it should be done, continue the good work !
