I’d say the bigger one is louder but there wouldn’t be much in it. It’s just got more of a whine to it too.

if the compact is weaker, why is it listed as "up to 160 mph" and the bigger one listed as "120 mph"?

I think it has to do with the diameter of the outlet. Smaller outlet = higher speed but CFM is what matters for a blower. Cubic feet per minute. That’s how much volume of air it can move.
