      Yea, people in my family are quiet happy with themselves. We are healthy and happy, but we don't see ourselves better than other people. We believe everyone is beautiful in their own way. Is true that some people might not fit into society's standards, but they are still beautiful to someone.Some people who do fit in the standards are ugly to someone. In the end, what matters is staying healthy and working on being a good person who helps others.

      Women are a lot less visual than men, and we can adapt to find people attractive when we like their personality. Of course this is a generalization, but taking myself for example, my boyfriend has short legs and as a result, I now like short legs, even on other guys.

    • @regenosis
      @regenosis 6 лет назад +108

      "Women are a lot less visual than men" This is a popular myth. There has been very little to no conclusive biological studies done on the matter (with a number of recent studies challenging with the contrary). Most of why it's perceived this way is more of a social and cultural construct, with basis in conventional wisdom.

    This guy is severely misinformed. In Kenya, the people who enlarged their earlobes were from the Maasai tribe. Those tribes are ancient, enlarging earlobes is no longer a thing (Although the tribe still exists). Even when it was common, the only people that did it were from the Maasai tribe. Not everyone in Kenya did that then, and barely anyone does it now. Even back then, the only reason they stretched their ear lobes was to fit jewelry in them. The media always depicts Africa as this rural, uneducated continent, and it really isn't. Even having tribes isn't uneducated or barbaric, it's just culture.

    As humans, we find symmetry attractive. That's why cars and planes are perfectly symmetrical. It's a lack of symmetry even at an angle that makes things look "ugly" to us. This is because our brain has to work harder at figuring out what's at the spot it's not focused on. Do you know what I mean?

    • @memerk3919
      @memerk3919 6 лет назад +121

      No... With planes symmetry is necessary to maintain stability and be more aerodynamic. With cars, it is just for stability, having weight mainly put on one side will result in the car veering to the side with the most weight.

    • @pugzmcstewson5603
      @pugzmcstewson5603 6 лет назад +114

      No it’s because if you have an asymmetric plane you die...

    • @memerk3919
      @memerk3919 6 лет назад +22

      WikiTool No... Planes and birds are completely different, while both use lift and have wings, a bird can take off from a standpoint, as it creates lift by flapping. Meanwhile planes need to gather enough speed so that it can use the air coming at it to push itself up. Also, people don't have wheels... People have 2 legs... Also, as for the 6 wheels theory, more wheels isn't more speed or more stability. If anything it adds less stability as well as creating more drag and weight on the car. Wheels are heavy AND aren't exactly aerodynamic. I also don't think people competing for millions of dollars in races would sacrifice a car not looking as good for more maneuverability.

    For the most part, good looks are just a sign of good health. If you're in good physical shape, have a good complexion and look healthy, then most people will find you at least a little bit attractive - in any part of the world.
    I say 'for the most part', because some people just have better facial bone structure than others and this is purely down to your genes which is a lottery and has nothing to do with how healthy a lifestyle you lead.

    Completely disagree with including breast reductions with other forms of plastic surgery as some sort of vain attempt to look better. Most women (myself included) who get breast reductions do so because being very large-breasted results in constant back, neck and shoulder pain and omnipresent headaches.
    The fact that you look better without two Costco-sized watermelons hanging off your chest is just an added bonus, as is the fact that shirts and dresses actually fit for a change. The easing of endless pain is the main thing.

    Sexual attraction is really an animalistic instinct. I think all beauty, good looks, and attraction boils down to masculinity, feminity, and health.
    That means an attractive man leans toward the masculine side; muscular, chiseled, strong.
    And female beauty leans toward feminity; soft, graceful, eloquent, limber.
    And then a trait that must be present in both is health. Health is shown through balance, proportion, control, functionality, and symmetry. Health is the life and energy that lights someone up.

    Is anyone else ever jealous, or envious of the gorgeous people? Not necessarily in a bad way. I'm usually all like: "When will You (to myself) fugly mofo" upon seeing a random gorgeous person. And then I get the feeling that everyone around me is absolutely beautiful and I'm the worst looking person ever. That's even a sin in the Christianity... even though I don't desire someone else's beauty, I just wish I was gorgeous too. So I can get some respect, and not be treated like a second-rate human being. Because lets face it beautiful people have it easier, in regards to anything in life; finding a job, a mate or just a seat in the public transportation. They're far less judged, and sometimes their good looks absolve them of their "wrongs"... Feeling/being what the video calls "average" also makes me personally feel like I'm always bothering other people, by just being there. S

      Not completely. It depends on the society, it's not completely unique for everyone. Everyone depends on it, no matter if he wants to be independent. For example, bodypositive activists don't see obesity as a bad thing, but only in the same way (there are almost no bodypositive activists supporting being slim).

    I worked as a recruiter for a modelling agency for 2 years, and I can tell you no holds barred that "average people" over "beautiful people" any day. Internal beauty over superficial beauty any day of the week. Ego is such a terrible thing.

    • @Calyx
      @Calyx 7 лет назад +35

      Joe Al nah that's a general stereotype but it is a stereotype based in reality. When they're told how beautiful they are, day in day out, from childhood to adulthood they usually develop a superiority complex.
      There's a ton of beautiful people out there that have the 'perfect' features but never realised how to bring those features out. Those are the most fun people to work with. Silver-spoon spoiled brats are the absolute worst. It's fine that they might be beautiful, and they know they're beautiful, but they generally feel entitled to superior treatment, which also stems from being spoiled. I'm not gonna hold the fucking door for someone whose ego is too big to fit through.
      And i'm not saying all "average looking" people have hearts of gold. Many, many people have rotten hearts whether they're rich or poor, beautiful or ugly. Just live by the golden rule and try your best in this messed up world I guess.

    • @hauntedwafflecake

    I keep on seeing comments that say, “I hate beautiful people” or “whenever I see someone beautiful, I get depressed/angry.” Well, I’m 100% sure it took that beautiful person a lot of time and energy to be that beautiful. Be it working out, spending hours on makeup or shopping, saving up money for clothes or plastic surgery, they worked hard to get that. As for the naturally fit, beautiful, smart, and kind people, well... they’re a rarity, so they’re not included.
    So, in the end, i’d just like to ask that instead of complaining about how ugly or un-pretty you are, you go out and make a difference- go to the gym, eat healthy, get better at makeup, work on your personality.
    I may not be a particularly gorgeous person, but I think beauty is a result of self-discipline and effort. Instead of viewing beauty as something impossible to reach or only given to a select few, do your utmost best to become beautiful- of course, that is, if you want to.
    Sorry for the long rant 😅

    In a blunt heartless way beautify is viewed only by someone’s wealth, back in the past heavier/fatter people looked better because they had enough money to pay for a lot of food and during times when food wasn’t plentiful that meant a lot. Now we want slimmer people because they are rich enough to not need to work meaning they can focus on their body and looks or afford surgery to look better or to afford products

    I've heard people Say that larger women used to be considered more beautiful, but I don't think severe obesity has ever been seen as attractive.
    I'm not saying that obese people don't deserve respect and love. I'm just saying that severe obesity is not terribly attractive. People can be amazing in other ways. Your self worth doesn't need to be tied to your physical attractiveness.
    In the video though, he even mentioned that larger people are generally considered attractive only in societies that have food shortages. I myself am a little obese, so I'm not trying to put anyone down, but living a healthy lifestyle is much more attractive than obesity to most people.

      When he said heavier I think he wasn't referring to obese people. Being obese is a health problem and from my knowledge has never been seen as beautiful (in most countries). I think he met to have a little more fat on you and not have a very slim waist. (I'm not trying to be rude but being obese is a health problem and although obese people deserve respect they aren't usually seen as the most ideal, whatever body type you have you deserve to be treated nicely)

    • @LEFT4BASS
      @LEFT4BASS 6 лет назад

      That's a good point. When I've heard people talk about how obesity was supposedly attractive back in the day, I know that was was considered "large" then and what is considered "large" now are very different things. I saw a vintage ad for some weight gain supplement to make women more attractive. It said "boys wouldn't look at me when I was skinny" , but the model in the picture was in the range of what we would call "skinny" today.
      There are people attracted to all sorts, but as a rule of thumb, I don't think modern day obesity has ever been widely seen as attractive.

    As a 8.5-8.7/10 man I notice that people respect me a lot more for me than average people. People also seem to notice and be more kind to me than average people, this obviously includes women my age and women older than me. People probably notice my exotic and very good looking features (Golden brown eyes, chiseled Roman nose, defined jawline, slanted upper eyelid, etc) Due to society’s unfortunate standards for men and women, you are treated differently by others, and get noticed differently purely based on looks. Being good looking opens jobs, sex, and other commodities much more than the average or below average person. I’m just telling you guys from experience, it’s a brutal truth, tell me this, if the new boss at the office was short, fat, and balding, how many people would actually respect him? Now if it was Prime Brad Pitt, almost everyone would respect him and be around him, because better genetics give off a “halo effect” which makes people perceive that he’s a good person.

      Yeah, I figured that statement was strange. Most women seem to prefer tall men or at least taller than she is. If a guy has short legs, he's probably not very tall. That said, short guys can build muscular frames more easily. Maybe that's what they meant? Though there seems to be a pretty even balance for women who like thin, muscular, and thick men from what I've seen. But what do I know? I'm just a straight dude. lol

      Korea has the most facial plastic surgery (eyes, nose, chin). The US tends to have more body surgery (boob jobs, butt jobs, and tummy tucks).

      The US have superior statistics because it is a lot wider and more populated. South Korea is very tiny next to the US, but they're having a lot more surgeries per capita

    I’m from Kayan tribe in Burma , the story with the ring neck was not originally for beauty reasons it was for protection from tigers because tigers tend to bite your neck when they attack.

    Okay, hear me out. I’ve been ridiculously insecure my whole life, but now I’ve started to see what people find attractive in me. I’m often told I’m pretty and have dismissed it since now, but something just switched to do with my body image and now when I look in the mirror I love my face. I have high cheekbones, big eyes, plump lips, a defined jawline and button nose. I know those aren’t the only ‘good’ features but I’ve only recently started to appreciate how good they look on me! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not big headed now but I’ve noticed that just loving myself has made me take care of myself more. It’s better late than never to be body positive. I hope everyone sees their beauty one day! :)

    I’m Kenyan living in Kenya and I can assure you that these standards of beauty only apply to SPECIFIC TRIBES within Kenya; different tribes find different things beautiful. However if you live in the bigger metropolitan cities such as Nairobi or Mombasa, you will find that many cultures and tribes have influenced the general standard of beauty. Unfortunately, Western standards of beauty are also popularised here as well; light skin, curly hair or “good” hair and bodacious bodies are the more “desirable” features. Being biracial or racially ambiguous/“foreign” is generally more desirable here if you live within the bigger cities.
