Hey! Thanks for the vid. Do you know what to do if the sharpener just won’t sharpen one side of the pencil? I’m having a hard time understanding why. It occurs even if I twist the pencil around to “push” a certain side against barrel; if I turn it in a circle in the barrel; etc. I’ve gone through a few pencils trying to figure it out.
Have you looked at the blade itself? I’m guessing one of the blades is misaligned or dull. You could also try moving the pencil around by changing the angle you insert it. On the very rare chance, maybe you’ve got a bad batch of pencils? Some cheap ones will have non-straight cores so it will never look straight.
@@learnsavediy LOL, so I’m a bit naïve with this stuff. I didn’t even think that the core could be misaligned. I had a whole collection of “American Craft” colored pencils gifted to me. Turns out that the core is misaligned in nearly every single pencil. Maybe one of those cheap manual ones will do a good finishing job on them.
I’ve got a 17 and changed the gear. But the trigger that starts the sharpening process on the hole isn’t firing properly. Do you have any suggestions or a photo of how those two wires should be?
Hi Bryan. I've taken some photos that hopefully address your question. If you need more let me know: photos.app.goo.gl/iScRyfobYBFXuWzD9 What does "not firing properly" mean? Like the switch is not responding when you put a pencil in? Maybe the switch is bad or partially broken so the sharpener isn't turning on.
Replaced the large gear wheel. After reassembly, my sharpener stops about 10mm shy of a sharp point. I can't understand what's happening, nothing is blocking the hole. It just quits no matter how I wiggle it or how hard (or how gently) I push it. Any ideas?

Do you know if the new gear was 3D printed or Nylon cast? The one you linked us to doesn’t specify. Thanks for the repair video!
If I remember correctly, 3D printed.

Teeth broken on mine. Thanks for putting the link for the part in description. Yeah 10 bucks is high, but these sharpeners are haus's!
Exactly my thought!

Maybe you got some gunk in the blades or clogged the shavings receptacle when you were moving it around causing it not to fully sharpen?
Thanks!
You’re welcome!
