You should be capable of checking out anything stated. Crimes check FBI, weather many weather sites, economy etc. Remember you can live in a small town in a state listed as having high crime rate but low in your town but a city may be high. I live in Ely, Nevada and no crime. Vegas and Reno are totally different. Even different parts of a city can vary. One part can have such a high crime rate it affects the statistics of the whole city. Chicago is that way. most of the murders are in a small section of S. Chicago. Yet they are high enough to affect all of Chicago. Chicago is listed as No. 6 in the u.S. in murder rates. There are more murders in Chicago than LA and NYC combined. New Orleans has the highest murder rate of any city. Yet likely in small towns of Louisiana there may be no crime. Two small cities. Ashland and Medford, Oregon. They are about 15 miles apart. The former has very low crime, the latter the highest in the state. Why would Medford have a higher crime rate than Portland with Portland being 10 times larger? I do not know.

At the beginning of the vid they listed several different criteria for being "safe" which included financial and economic security as well as personal security. This is likely what skewed the results from what you were expecting. Case in point, Mississippi beat out Louisiana for least safe even though Louisiana has the highest homicide rate.
Also, California is freaking huge and pretty diverse. It's not like LA or San Fran are representative of all or even most of the state.

Don't just check the statistics from one website, but several websites. If there is a similar pattern being written about a particular area, then more than likely, it is true. A shooting took place recently a mile or 2 from my house out in the sticks---it was drug related. Fortunately they didn't die but their head was grazed with a bullet. The gulf is susceptible to hurricanes and flooding, the middle states are essentially tornado alley, they also also right to work with fewer worker rights and tend to be in the bottom of education. I think Mississippi was 1st in teen pregnancy and last in education in 2015, not sure where they are ranked now.

Guys you do realize this is taking everything into account?? The south gets hammered with hurricanes/flooding. Midwest gets tornadoes and dust storms. Southwest/northwest gets earthquakes/forest fires/heat waves. The north East gets snowstorms. Snowstorms are the least dangerous of those options not to mention it’s more dangerous to be too hot than too cold. If you’re cold you add more layers if your too hot you can only strip down to so much. Also car crashes I believe need to come into account. I have driven across all 48 continental US and once I left the Northeast the people can’t drive for fucking shit. I’m not surprised car crash fatalities are as high as they are in this country. There is a reason the northeast is so much safer.

Yash Goyal Maine is mainly just a lot of country. Portland is kinda ugly cause it has a million brick buildings, but it has great restaurants, especially seafood places. The Holy Donut in downtown is famous for it’s potato-made donuts. Old Orchard Beach is really cool, as it’s basically an amusement park on the beach. If are considering moving there, I suggest being near Portland, as it’s Maine’s biggest city and a driveable distance from Boston (where I live) if you wanted to visit it once a while.

People wondering why Illinois or New York not higher up in the last for dangerous. They don’t understand. Chicago is just one city, and while it may have a dangerous reputation for some parts of it, it’s still one city. In Florida, statewide, you can get killed for the slightest altercation ANYWHERE. The beach, walking home from school, the park, swamplands, etc. That usually go for most states in the south which has always been the most dangerous region of the US. It’s why despite lower cost of living we generally move to the Midwest or up north or Cali.

I dont know where they came up with their stats but they are F'n wrong. There are some nice towns here like Sea Girt, Wall, Spring Lake, Deal, Rumson but you need to rob a bank in order to afford a house......maybe that is why crime is so high. IMO NJ sucks, I cant wait to leave and live in a state you can carry in.

Harry McNicholas I was speaking about the map itself. Not what they were saying with the text. For instance they are saying that Montana and Wyoming and in the group of the 2nd most dangerous states. Yet they don’t list any stats for them. Also the stats they do list do not make these states dangerous or safe. Like most fatalities per 100 million miles traveled. Seriously? Like I said you can pick and choose stats and make them say whatever you want. I’m not saying AK doesn’t have the most fatalities per 100 MILLION miles traveled. I’m saying you have to look at many more stats to determine if it is safe or dangerous.

Okay, I would like to say this.
Every state has a flaw but elections and politics don't make a state "dangerous." Besides, Every state isn't 100% safe. Especially with many people stealing and harassing people. A solution is make the majority of cities having less aggressive people by helping them instead of assaulting them on live TV.
My opinion don t want you offend anyone.
P.S- I live in Colorado and I think of Firestone / Longmont as safe towns. Just saying...

    • @ShawnE31415

But having firearms for your own safety is a good thing. Other countries don't even have guns, so when someone breaks into your house, what do you have to protect yourself? At least a gun is a force seeker in those situations. Plus, the US isn't as dangerous as the media says it is. Sure there are dangerous parts, but there's danger everywhere. I've never had any trouble with violence, and never seen violence in the cities/states where I lived.
