- Field Test: Meshtastic Heltec Capsule Sensor V3
The Heltec Capsule Sensor V3 is shipped with Meshtastic already flashed. So, out of the box it is easy to join a Meshtastic network, send text messages and share location information between devices.

Sounds brilliant!
whoa Meshtastic soon will be a real word in Webster's dictionary
Yeah it's like that!
Thank you for the video! I am very interested in the battery testing so I am looking forward to more videos!
Meshtastic software has some low power sleep feature. I am definitely going to make more videos on Meshtastic and these devices.
@@ShotokuTech Ideal, I would be able to hand these to kids when we go to a shopping mall or amusement park. I would most like to know the battery life for sending location data every 1 minute, and every 5 minutes. I figure anything more than 5 minutes and the person is going to move too much for the tracker to really work.
@@ddloehrI agree. One minute is the lowest resolution I can use. I want to track rockets that can execute their entire flight in one minute. So I like every second updates. But this seems well suited for humans interacting in a ordinary setting. I will do a specific battery test for this. Thanks.
Neat packaging and functionality. Would be interesting to see how easy to add and report sensors.
I did see a video disassembling it and installing the GNSS sensor. I would have to look on the Heltec website to see if they have developed any other sensors for this. Thanks.
Fantastic video!
Thank you very much Judy!
Thank you for publishing exciting videos! As an undergraduate student with basic experience in network communication, I admire your content and innovative approach on RUclips. Your previous video on Heltec LoRa V3 Range Test inspired me and your recent video on Heltec LoRa ESP32 was incredibly informative.
Currently, I'm working on a project involving multiple LoRa nodes for RSSI and Distance data collection. That involves multiple nodes as transmitter, a master node as transceiver and a station node connecting to laptop to implement LoRa localization system using the LoRa V3 module. May I ask you for these questions,🤔
1. How does RSSI become accurate with minimal variation at different distances for each node?
2. How should RSSI measure distance with every change made?
Looking forward to connecting! 🤯
Thanks!❤
Yes, with LoRa the RSSI reading can vary wildly from one measure to the next when the antennas are moved in relation between nodes and also when there are obstructions. You would probably want a current and a calculated average value for comparison. Also I think you will enjoy this calculator I found in this video: "The Best LoRa Settings?!"

P.S. Your project sounds very interesting. Best wishes.
@@ShotokuTech Thanks Sir for answering! Since I tried to convert RSSI with float instead of integer only, however it won't show a valid result with a decimal place, just zeros after it. Now, I wonder if there's a function to read RSSI value, even precise to the nearest decimal place?
@@Jerf-ou6jxYeah I have only worked with BLE RSSI previously and it was integer.
@@ShotokuTech Oh I see, would you mind explain more about BLE RSSI and LoRa RSSI?
@@Jerf-ou6jxI did an experiment with BlueTooth RSSI. But I look at the code and I didn't do anything with the integer value other than display it. ruclips.net/video/KpeGw2OMLHk/видео.html
Such a wonderful video, thanks for sharing.
I like touring the nursery. They have a lot of exotic plants.
So very nice.
Thank you Judy! 😊
I enjoy this channel very much. At my age, simple and slower explanations are helpful. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, help this guy keep doing this and support him by 👍👍👍.
😬😬😬Let's all screw with the algorithm. 😆😆😆
Thanks! It is working!
Sorry if missed it, but I didn't see if you mentioned how long the capsule stayed on. How long does it last after a full charge?
I will be spending more time with this device. I will find out. By default these transmit every five minutes. Meshtastic has some low power 'sleep' settings. If that works I imagine you can go for a while.
thanks ... can one use it as a gps tracker on a property?? what dashboard would one use?? gateway needed??
Just like I did it in the video. Join the device in the Meshtastic app and its location appears on the map in Meshastic. I just used GPS Visualizer to plot out all the recorded points. But the app itself has a map. No gateway needed. But you would need two of these, one connected to your phone via Bluetooth. the other will transmit its location via LoRa. Thanks.
Just a silly idea, but is it possible to send a signal and play retro tennis. That would be so epic if it was possible.
Although I am enjoying Mestastic on this device, it is possible to program these in Arduino IDE as well. So if you can code what your mind can create, it's on. Thanks.
Nice video!
Glad you enjoyed it Judy!
😊😊👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks!
Greetings. I would like to know if this product supports the implementation of any extra button (or if it already has it integrated for free use), in order to configure it to perform some action, such as, for example, sending an emergency alert by of a hiker who is carrying the product, and that this alert is transmitted through LoRa frames (along with GPS information as well). I would also like to know if this product allows downlink transmission, that is, from a server, it can send a notification to the hiker, generating a sound from the device, for example.
Thank you so much.
This device does not natively have a user button.
I see a lot of reviewers cracking this device open and it seems Heltec has made this modular. You might see additional development for this device.
Meshtastic does support an MQTT server.
@@ShotokuTech Can I connect this device thorough LoraWAN with a LoRa gateway? So I can use Chirpstack on it and see the LoRa frames (like the Heltec Wifi Lora 32)
@@Marlon5658 The Capsule Sensor can be programmed in the Arduino IDE to use LoRaWAN, yes.
@@ShotokuTech Now there is
put it on a kite :D
That's a fun idea. It's been decades since I flew a kite!
