    Some of the causes of depression can be a chronic imbalance of the elements in the body according to both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Tibetan Medicine. These need to be treated in order to enable the person suffering depression a basis of health to overcome their depression.

    This is good advice for loneliness or other kleshas but not for depression. If you are depressed, you need to get professional help.

    • @TeaSmithWay
      @TeaSmithWay 3 месяца назад

      True. There really needs to be some understanding generally within traditional Buddhist (and yoga) circles of the difference between “feeling down” and being clinically depressed.
      The latter is not simply psychological, but neurological. Further, injury and underlying medical conditions (I.e brain tumours) can cause clinical depression - therefore it is absolutely essential to consult a doctor - rather than try to meditate your way through.

    I'm sure this could really help some people but it's really not a good solution for most people who have serious cases of medical depression. Maybe it could help them cope a bit though? Her intentions seem very good and sincere.

    • @ataraxia7439

      @@hasansweidan7295 Oh it can definitely help but just like exercise can't fix a chemical imbalance in someone's brains if they're suffering of chronic medical depression, neither can mediation. It just seems kind of irresponsible to offer something help as a cure. Like if someone has brain cancer, an advil can help with headaches but it can't neccessarily fix the main issue.

    • @hasansweidan7295
      @hasansweidan7295 4 года назад +4

      Ataraxia Meditation doesn’t fix the main issue, but it helps you cope with the heavy symptoms of depression like energy loss and nightmares. I am a sufferer of major depressive disorder and I have tried a lot of types of antidepressants, they just didn’t work for me. CBT and the natural route is the way to go, along with spirituality

      Trying to let go is the wrong approach. Witnessing or observing the emotions and thoughts as they rise and fall, not becoming tangled in the content, is the heart of meditation. What you are describing is suppressing thoughts and emotions. The more one practices insight meditation, the more one achieves this subtle non - attachment, observing the ebb and flow of thoughts.

      sangita mazumder sit in silence. empty your mind. accept things as they are. accept distractions, let them pass without judgement. don't try too hard to think. the first thousand sessions will feel pointless. it will feel as though you are wasting time and getting nowhere, keep at it. focus on your breathing... deeper, your heartbeat, then once you can hear your heart pounding like a drum in your silence, let your mind release those thoughts.
      i'd also suggest some reading material. the gateless gate was very helpful to me.

      Sit comfortably and focus on your breathing. The more completely you focus on your breathing the less the mind will create mental chatter. The object of meditation is to cease thought and simply be. This is why this technique is the simplest and most effective method. If your mind is still producing thought then you are not meditating. At every given moment the mind is working hard to make sense of the world around us. It is a useful tool if used correctly. Meditation helps us perceive the world beyond mental constructions and attachment by detaching from them for a while.

  • @gra6649

    All this is true, however not really helpful. Until one sees it, one doesn’t. And even then one can, and will suffer the pains of isolation. Pain is the great motivator in life, and therefore it’s a teaching aid. No pain no gain. If one can accept this as ones, karma without feeling that one is a victim of some outside force, it does make it easier to live with. Enlightenment does not mean freedom from pain. It means being able to keep everything in perspective. Remember, even The Buddha cried.
