I agree…we make bad choices, not mistakes, big difference. I was a heroin addict, for a few years, been clean from that, since 2001. I went to rehab, and what made me angry was that the counselors try to blame it on it being hereditary, no, I, me, me, me, I made a bad choice. They need to stop taking the accountability away from people. Now, I do believe there may be a hereditary aspect as to how you handle drugs or alcohol. For instance, my family are not good at drinking, we always, always, always black out, pretty quickly, and we don’t handle it very well, but as far as you becoming an addict, that is from bad choices that YOU have made.

Just to add, Although Alan Jackson might have had a hit with this it was George Jones and Glenn Marten who composed this and George recorded it.
I am George Jones and a Ricky Skaggs fan, but I heard a song on my car Radio for the first time ever. And man there is no truer song. It's called: You can't do wrong and get by - George Jones and Ricky Skaggs.. I strongly recommend.
George had his license pulled more often than not. He finally got pulled over headed to the bar on his riding lawnmower.

How many people know about George Jones boycotting the CMA's in the 90's because they wouldn't let him perform the full song?
They scheduled George to open the show with it, but they wanted him to shorten it. He refused and boycotted the show. So they had Alan Jackson open the show instead. Then after the solos in Alan Jackson's performance, the band all stopped and started playing the chorus of this song. The whole audience, including other artists, all immediately stood and cheered as Alan Jackson symbolically gave a middle finger to the CMA's in a classy way for not allowing the legend perform the whole song. They immediately left the stage and got on their bus and left the show after the performance.
The next day, Alan went onto a country music talk show on TNN, and they talked about it. And then they had George Jones call in, and George told him how proud he was of him.
You can find both videos of that performance and that interview if you search "Alan Jackson Choices". Those two artists are on my Mount Rushmore of favorite artists.
