I was looking for space to get this flight but it was fully booked. Nice to see video from someone who did it. I drove from Glasgow to Campbeltown which was 3 hours. I'm not sure the flight really saves you that much time. Do you have to check in 1 hour before the flight? So 1 hour plus 45m flight time and them 15m taxi. Probably save yourself 1 hour. But the view from Glasgow to Campbeltown via car is spectacular. I drove from Milton keynes and the 9h drive was purely worth it because of the a83 route. Through the mountains with waterfalls and rivers to the 3 hour coastline view. I will do it again just for the view. Can't think of a better view in the entire UK
Another great video! The flight price seemed really reasonable too compared to the Isles of Scilly Skybus flight I went on a few years ago which was only 15 minutes long and cost a lot more, does make me wonder if its possibly subsidised to keep the good transport links? Definitely something for me to bear in mind if ever I'm up there, looks like a brilliant day trip
It’s worth noting that less than half the runway is usable now. The massive runway dates back to its days as RAF Macrihanish, an air base which allegedly was home to many secret operations due to its remoteness. A sort of British Area 51 if you will. The small civil terminal was at the other end of the airport to all the hangars where the ‘secret’ stuff happened. When the airbase closed in 2012 the eastern half of the airfield where the civil terminal is was transferred HIAL and the other half is some sort of business park making UFOs for visiting aliens. I may have made the last bit up…
@@WorldWide_Dom the only time I’ve been was pre-pandemic. There appeared to be a lot of wind turbine stuff over there, maybe just being stored before being moved to various wind farms.
@@WorldWide_Dom there is a prototype renewable energy project thing kept there, that has recently been destroyed. My mum rented the officers mess briefly there! Also as of writing this comment I’m sat at the terminal there
In the 90s my dad was a security guard at the airbase. He never told me anything about what was kept there but there were always rumors about nuclear material being stored in the area
RAF Machrihanish hosted UK military and NATO base operations here until 1997. Also identified as a suitable runway for the space shutle in emergency...
What a lovely flight on LoganAir. Never been to Campbeltown but am going to make the effort to go now, it looks a lovely area to go for a weekend away. Thanks for another cracking video, Dom 😊
Love the sound of those engines. Campbeltown looks like a handsome little town, but with airport taxiing times to rival Schipol. Great job sobering up for the return flight after all that whisky indulging! I suspect the gull was basically telling you off for not going for a major kebab after all that - rather than the mango ice cream, which doesn't look like it would have done the job!! Great trip report, as always.
I never knew Campbeltown is the capital of whisky, for some reason seeing the tour, it reminds me of the episode from Still Game. Were Jack and Victor went on a whisky tour.
@@andrewmcilwraith1997 So would Dufftown and moray 😅 I think a lot of places in Scotland claim it. Personally I’m for a knock out rock, paper, scissors, last standing gets the title. 🤣
That’s about the same length as Stansted’s runway, which was originally built and then extended by the US Air Force. Maybe Campbeltown was militarily designed too
Really good video. Campbeltown (and Kintyre generally) has a lot going for it. Another option is to take a trip from Glasgow on PS Waverley - a grand day out.
What sort of day trip would you do to Campbeltown from Glasgow?
I live near Campbeltown anyway so going home I guess
Finley leading the tour there, we MOT'd his car today, it passed! Props for the Still Game referance to btw! 😄

Fascinating, thanks, I wonder what the site is used for these days.

I've flown to Campbeltown a couple of times in the past. On the first flight the Captain was a friend of mine.
That’s awesome! The flight is amazing for such a short route. Please tell you friend I say thank you for a great journey.

p.s. nice “Still Game” references. That’s one of my favourite episodes 😁
Thanks I’m glad you liked it and got the Still Game references 😅
Did this flight in February. Highly recommended
Campbeltown Loch is the name of a song too. Those of us a bit older than you will remember The Alexander Brothers belting it out lol!

Thank you Mark, I did have some time to sober up nicely before the flight 😂
".... filtered by the heather.....!"
"Clark Gable!"
Filtered Through the Heather. He hid big sticky oot ears like the door of a taxi
She loved him, ah thought he was red rotten!

Haha glad you got the references. 😉😅
Islay might like to differ!

I believe you are correct.
Yeah Campbelltown is actually called RAF Machrahanish it was a base used by the US Navy Seals for a while.
I'll be watching this with a wee Whisky.
Nice one! I like your style!
Did you go to glen Scotia distillery??? I work for their sister company loch Lomond group
Hi Dom. That was fantastic. So unexpected! You are a wonderful man!
Thank you kindly! I’m glad you liked it. I do have a lot more trip around Scotland 🏴 planned this year.
Loved this one Dom, how nice does Campbelltown look. The weather made it perfect
Hi Don, Nice video as usual. What flight is the Loganair Saab 340 doing as they are withdrawn from use? Did you get pissed on the whiskey? 😃
This was filmed before they were withdrawn
This may have been filmed last summer 😉
Ooh sounds great! Smashing video pal!
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😁
Wow! What a great trip!
It really was a fantastic day out, I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Oh! Campbeltown Loch, Ah wish ye were whisky!
Campbeltown Loch, Och Aye!
Campbeltown Loch, I wish ye were whisky!
Ah wid drink ye dry.
I went to check, sadly it’s still water. 🤣
How did you get from the airport to the town?
Taxi shared with another passenger.
Lovely trip Dom. Beautiful place, can I please ask when this was filmed? As weather was beautiful.
This was filmed in August last year. 😁 it was great weather to be honest.
sorry but the first place you visited seemed very quiet considering what they say hey make

Great suggestion! May just have to do that next time I’m in the area.
