Our growing realm needs a standing army that doesn't loose to 5 raiders. Sadly armies are expensive and need lots of equiptment, so we do what every reasonable person would do and attack our neighbour.

I love your tutorials, man. Gave me confidence to start playing and it's been going well!
I look forward to each of these
Wow this game changed a whole bunch in the last year
What these fights need is this circus clown theme ...
Or the Benny Hill Theme, but I bet there is copyright on that.
Um, you've had 500 gems filling your storage the entire episode--kinda easy to see why raiders want to hit you! ;-) (I mean, plus all your other riches..)
Now as for how powerful the raiders are, yeah, THAT seems maybe a bit out of whack.
Oh my--you then paid off some more raiders and 34 gems as part of it. You regained those in a few days? So you have a mine that is able to make gems but they are just clogging storage. ;-p
Gems made me think of Nobles--you have just 3? I honestly don't remember if there is a Military type of noble, but that could help. (I never used it if it does exist.)
Oh, that new anti-raid tech is very interesting and effective!
I have an export depot for gems, so while my storage is full, the excess is sold for some money.
There currently isn't a military-noble, but afaik jake wants to change the noble system completely and make them leaders of divisions etc. So in the future nobles will play a role in the military side of things.
Also you are right, I'll use the rest of my noble slots next session.
I wish we knew how many years in game time things were. Like what year is it when you are doing this? Seems a pretty relevant thing to tell people when you are doing a "tutorial" series.
The problem there is that Songs of Syx is a very open game, so every playthrough is different.
The ingame year really isn't relevent, i think overall population is more important, but there still would be big variations.
In a Garthimi playthrough i would never build a bakery or as many farms for example.
But I agree that I'm not explaining enough.
Is it optimal to have people only from 1 race work in the city? Do they have more efficiency?
Every race wants to be the majority, so by having only one race, it is slightly easier to keep them happy.
I'd say overall you even loose efficiency by having only one race, because every race has some strenghts and weaknesses.
In my last game I roleplayed to be a supremacist race so I ran only one race but slaved many from the other races and assigned them to work at what they are the best at. This is an effective way to run only one race but take advantage of the others.
