My wedding was 9 days before this show. It was on Long Beach Island, NJ. Jonny Rosch's band played. I asked him to bring a saxophone player. He brought the sax player from Southside Johnny's band. For almost 2 hours nearly every person at the wedding was dancing. Amazing experience.
When you listen to the words, this song is perfect. If I was a singer, I would want to sing it too. He sounds like a great guy, and so considerate of your wedding.
I was at this concert! I remember the stage and Bobby B's pink shirt. I looked it up to make sure and yup, it was a Friday. Southside was a NJ legend even back then. Always a great showman, his concerts were (and still are I hear) so much fun!
@@ronniesapp4469 Actually the primary writer was the Keyboardist Mike Brown (Lookofsky). Tony Sansone pitched in. The singer Steven Martin Caro did not participate in the writing.
Haven't even thought of these guys in ages! Brings back memories: the Jukes, the E-Street Band, the Delaware Destroyers, Ocean City, NJ, and the Dunes 'till Dawn...if you were there in those days, you know what I'm sayin'.
Been a fan of Springsteen since '73. Found Southside Johnny around'75. I love that Jersey sound! Saw Bruce twice, Southside once at Summerfest in '81. Also saw him backing up the Stones in '78. My 3 favorites + the Ramones!!!
I missed the 70's east coast stuff but caught the wave in the early 80's . None of my West coast friends had ever heard Southside Johnny . Great stuff with the Asbury Jukes
Saw SSJ in or about 1977-78 at the Place in Victory Gardens, N.J. I was too close to the speakers and have had tinnitis ever since. A good show that I have remembered every day for the past 45 years or so.
Absolutely the best ever rendition of this song, vocals of both singers outstanding! The later version with added sax is nowhere near as good as this , raw and brilliant .

@@jonbon8598 Hi @jonbon8598. I've only just noticed your comment and if you think Southside is better that's fine. Just listening to music is the real winner. From the personal side; my first Four Tops record was 'Baby I need your loving' and they have been part of my life ever since. I think only Jackie Wilson gets anywhere close to Levi Stubbs. As for Southside etc I have their first LP and first three UK singles. Their first 45 'I don't want to go home' is, in my opinion, brilliant and I play it a lot. I'm not someone who automatically thinks the first is best. For example Springstein's version of 'Any other way' is just as good as the original. Take care. I wish you well.
@@Tim_the_Enchanter very well put! I WAS a die-hard fan of Bruce. My Jersey buddies from school turned me on to Southside early on. Yes, many moons ago.
@@VU-WakeUp I'm not here to run Bruce down. His music and my teenage years intersected in a meaningful way. But Johnny has stood the test of time with me in a way that Springsteen simply hasn't. He just brings the soul. I can't put it any better than that.
Can someone direct me to a Live version of "Who's the new romeo". I can only find the video or the studio version which is odd because Johnny pretty much has multiple live recordings of all his popular songs. I believe that "Romeo" was a top 40 or 50.

SS Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Great band. New Jersey in a bottle. Lots of good memories attached to their music.

One of the most underrated singers of of our time !
Absolutely!
Not under-rated; if you ever lived in Jersey you know.
One of my favourite songs and this is a lovely version
In remembrance of my dear school classmate Renee who passed away earlier this year, and whose memories I shall always carry with me...
What a fantastic version!
Thank you so much, Johnny
One of my favorite bands and songs. Saw them in concert in Jersey back in 77/78 with Eddie Money. Such a great show! Love this band. ♥️
No way. You saw both I saw Eddie in oc md ithink
OMG what an amazing cover version ever 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️🏴..I’ve just discovered this amazing singer x
I was fortunate to see Southside a few times in the early 80's (and many times since) What a voice for the Blues. Fantastic.
Absolutely liked! Multiplied the feeling of the song. Been.a Shades fan of Southside since later 70's
No words! Thank you!
It's okay if your heart is broken. It means you're still alive and know what love is.

The original from the Left Bank was written by its lead singer on an actual event that took place in his life
