- Allah Peliharakan Sultan (Jawi: الله فليهاراكن سلطن ) (English: God Bless the Sultan) is the national anthem of Brunei Darussalam. The anthem is sung in Malay, the national language of the country. It was written by Pengiran Haji Mohamed Yusuf bin Pengiran Abdul Rahim (later bestowed with the title Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Setia Negara Pengiran Haji Mohamed Yusuf bin Pengiran Abdul Rahim) and composed by Haji Awang Besar bin Sagap in 1947. It was adopted in 1951 as the national anthem of the British protectorate of Brunei. It was adapted as the national anthem of Brunei Darussalam upon independence from the United Kingdom, and was sung as the national anthem of the independent state at the stroke of midnight 1 January 1984.

@Cola ball The majority of the populace are Muslims. Islam became an important part of Brunei when Sharif Ali became the third Sultan of Brunei even though he wasn't the son of the 2nd Sultan Ahmad. Sharif Ali was chosen because of his knowledge of Islam and he was a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad.

The anthem was adopted on 1 January 1984, replacing God Save the Queen.
As a Malay living in Brunei I also find the Arabic language interesting Malay has a bit of Arabic loan words

Son Brunei was instead a protectorate where the Sultan still has some sort of power in the ranks of government, only limited by British rule. Kinda like the Raj of Sarawak, where the White Rajah from the Brooke family still could perform his policies, only supervised and limited by the British colonial rule.
