I really enjoyed this! My parents are against competitive gaming. I really wanted to do well in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, but I don't always do well. So I have taken up Super Smash Bros. Brawl ever since I had a Wii and found that since I grew up with all the Smash Bros games, I am actually good at Brawl and would love to take my skills up a notch. You inspire me because you are a GREAT player but you are still classy and very respectful to all of your opponents of all skill levels. I love y
i agree about sports and when you cant do it forever. because i've done it, but you can always be part of it. even if you are not playing it. you can still coach it, and like you said teach other people about it whether it is commentating or blogging. and it is satisfying when you teach or inform people about that sport knowing that you helped them out and gave them a better understanding of that area
This is EXACTLY what we need. The FGC has the idea that the community is build around going to tourneys like SoCal and Evo, which is partially true, but there's another dimension to fighting games (and games in generals) which could easier get people to enjoy the otherwise very competetive games we like to play. There's no harm in lending eachother a hand, especially because that builds trust which in turn builds a gaming community. This is more important than the competetive aspects imo.
Interesting stories as always Max :3 This one had a nice critical opinion and also a good analysis on what it means to be a competitive player for a living, its much tougher than one might think at first glance xP As much as i love video games and i think i'll play them forever, i don't think i would go to have competitive gaming as my living, i'm still only thinking on what my profession is gonna be, not even in high school age yet xP
I really have a hard time getting my parents to understand why i love to do competitive gaming, going to mlg events to see my favorite players play halo and cod, getting tips from the pros i just really love gaming. Getting my parents to understand is still the hardest part to get them to understand why i do this hobby, why i stay up late at night running gb games. shout out to anyone that follows their competitive game hobby.

I started playing Fighting games when I was only 6 years old it was 1990 and my father had a TurboGrafx CD and a copy of Fighting Street aka Street Fighter 1. I didn't actually see the Daigo parry video until many years after it happened, but it is way hype. It was always about the fight for me. I can remember teaching people how to play games like streetfighter and games from the vs series, just to have better challenges.
I'd have a question for you : what was the best moment of your life when you were in a fighting game tournament (major or not) ? and why? I don't know if you'll see this but I think this would be inspiring for all of us. Thank you for all your hard work Max :)
A long time ago I had this fantasy of creating video games because I loved them so much and I was a really good artist back in the day. Unfortunately that dream kinda faded but hearing you talk got me thinking about it. Maybe I gave up too soon. :)

Might be going back to school for some web design, but what I really want to do is show my love for games and fighting games. I have a few series ideas in mind, but they won't be paying the bills if I decide to take the time to learn how to edit and use an HD PVR. Hopefully I will find a job i love in my field and be able to persue my dream of showing my passion to others.
I Really Love Fighting games im a fan of Max cuz I feel identified with his arcade stories, i play FG, since i was a child my first games were SFII (like everyone else XD) and KOF 94 since then those are my fav games. The only one I know right now at this current moment would be Eduardo PR Balrog. Other people that have a chance would be Flux, Marlinpie and Yipes at the moment. Maybe RayRay because they had so many rematches I cant even count.
Max does have a good point. While he might be a good in umvc3 and other fighting games, he is even more well know for his channel and his achievements with his content than any big tournament. Btw combo fiend works for capcom now I was able to ask him during the SCR and its the reason he's not in tournaments anymore only casuals
I would like to hear you talk about Fighting Game fans and their rivalries against other Fighting Games, like those who dislike Mortal Kombat or Dead or Alive. Seems like whenever one of those games are brought up by players who don't play the games it always is used like an insult.
I enjoy playing fighting games. I actually want to go to make a fighting game. But as it stands, my ability to code and animate the means necessary for the game's engine is almost non-existent, so all i have are ideas. I use Power Director 11. It's simple yet complete. The best part is when you render you choose the outout format. So you can go from .wmv to .mp4 with very little degradation. For capture on PC I use Fraps and console I use Elgato HD Capture recorder.
Great topic Max and I agree with you 100%. When it comes to any kind of sport whether it be physical or e-sports, you have to realize you can't do it forever. It's important to learn how to market yourself and your abilities. Charles Barkley is a great example of this. Allen Iverson is a terrible example of this.
Idea for a topic, & sorry if this has been asked before. What tips would you give for people who suffer from learning disabilities & concentration skills? Things such as Dyslexia, Autism, ADD/ADHD, etc. Having Dyslexia and AS myself, I find that I can learn characters, fighting mechanics & have the passion for fighting games, but diving into the more advance features of fighting games, that are required to be the best, is very difficult. Poor reaction time/judgment & learning fast from mistakes.

The difference between sports players and fighting game players is that sports players stop because their bodies simply cannot continue, what happens to fighting game players? Arthritis?
I feel like I can't really level, mostly since I belong to that Casual Fighting game crowd. I really like playing and I have a little ability in the games I play, it's just that in the end I don't feel like i could try and make a jump to Competitive. I don't want to be a "Pro" player, but I wish I could join the community. Doesn't help I don't the local areas to play at.I don't live near any of the areas that handle tournaments.
