I just bought a MOXF8 and am admittedly rather blown away by the complexity of the thing. Your tutorial on making a pattern is just the right speed for me. Please make more! I could really use a tutorial on modifying voices and saving them as user favorites for quick recall during performance. Also making splits so that I can play (e.g.) sax solos on some of the upper octaves I don't use for typical piano songs. I can't figure out how to transpose only the sax part down so it doesn't sound like a piccolo!
Hi David. The way you have explained is simply superb. Easy to understand. Keep up those nice tutorials coming. I also like your voice which you bought towards the end of the pattern. Cheers!!!
Thank you!!!! I had difficulty finding a video that would show me how to operate this keyboard. I play keys at our church and they purchased this keyboard. It's difficult to figure out compared to others but you made it easy. Thanks again!
This video is very helpful. I bought the MOX tutorial DVD which is great too but only shows how to work from performance mode using the arps already provided. The way you did this is the way I used to record one track at a time but is not shown at all on the DVD. Great info, thank you -
David, I'm really bad with technology but I'm able to follow your tutorial. Does the MOFX6 have the capabilities to allow the user to create patters that can be utilized in performance and that would allow the user to play along with the pattern but change chords at will like it happens when using the arp?
I am downsizing for weight reasons from a Motif XS8 and Motif ES8. love being able to save my performance voices in to desired favorites banks. Does the MOF8 work like the Motif ES8 and EX8 in saving to desired banks and tracks for live performance recall on the fly?
David -great video. By far better than anything else out here. Step by step and intuitive. It seems as if this is the only video you have out here though? True? I am a fairly newbie on the MOXF8. I have figured out how to do some basic functions such as voices, performances etc but am miles away from being able to do anything creative yet. All Yamaha manuals I got for this KB are useless unless I am trying to build my own KB. Nothing but technical specs etc. Even the users manual is so high level and unintuitive that you could never figure out what buttons works with which others etc. Would you happen to have any documentation or videos of your own that would give an intuitive mapping on each of the functions and the buttons that are used for each, just as you did in this video? If so, I would be willing to pay for such information. Even in your video here you were hitting several other buttons as you progressed that you did not comment on or explain and that is what all of the other videos out there do. Lots of button pushing but no explaining what they do or what menus they turn on/off or what other buttons need to be pushed before and or after etc, etc. Anyways, anything you can do to provide some insight, or guidance would be so greatly appreciated.
HI Brian, here you can download a 2 hour DVD that demonstrates all of the yamaha MOXF's capabilities in a user-friendly style. Although this DVD is for the MOX, all functions and features are the same on the MOXF (the only difference of the MOXF is the capability of flash memory): www.keyfax.com/index.php/discovering-the-yamaha-mox-download-only-882.html
Check out my new tutorial video for the style creator. I will keep posting these tutorials for different functions and your comments help to pinpoint the functions people need help with most.
David B Hi David, thank you so much for the tutorials! I just recently bought an effects pedal (Yamaha FC7). I'm trying to assign different effects to the pedal for different voices, and save these settings so I don't have to set the effects each time I change voices during a live show. If you have a pedal and could help me with this, I would be very grateful!
nice. I had the original Motif 6 but sold it years ago. I was thinking about getting back into it. I was also considering the Roland fa-6. Same price range. Any thoughts on the Roland ?
I have just purchased the MOXF8 and I am confused when I read the manual. I am interested in recording a pattern that I can use while playing the keyboard live. Is it possible to save the patterns and use them later?
Hi David, after you create a new track (1-4) piano, keyboard, drums, bass and so on, I see that you press the stop button everytime. If I'd not press the Stop button and I'd want to switch to record a new next track, do the playback of the previous track will be stopped? Is the MOXF capable of a Non-Stop Recording workflow? Let me know, thanks!
hi david great demo. I've got a question. You're building a loop, eg. the drum track with several overdubs. Then you stop and select track 2 for a bass and then you record your bass line and so on. I wanna do live looping and creating live songs on several tracks in order to arrange them live on stage. So is it possible to let the drum loop keep playing while I switch to track 2, select on instrument, hit record and then record a bass line. Now drum and bass is playing, I switch to track 3 and record a piano and so on. To be more precise: I wanna do folk songs, often they have an A part with 8 bears which are repeated and then a B part with also 8 bars which are repeated. Can I prepare an "empty" song with an AABB structure and then fill this parts with several instruments on several tracks while the AABB structure is looped? I'm in the process of buying a workstation/keyboard. My favourites are the MoXF6 or the PSR-950. Can both of this instruments do this? Which one would you recommend for what I want to do? Which one has the better voices for folk music? As far as I understand the PSR-950 Both instruments have line input. Can record several instruments on different tracks into the sequencer? Hans
Hi Hans, The MO series carries a traditional sequencer and does not have a loop mode. You would need to record your separate patterns and then assemble them in the SONG mode. I would recommend a looper like the Boss RC series, or software like Loopmash or Ableton Live to achieve that. The MOX series is more suited for studio recording, and integrates well with a DAW (especially Cubase), where the PSR-S series is more suited for live performance. I hope that helps. David.
David B Hi David I already have an RC Looper, but they have limited tracks. At 4:04 you start recording your drum track (it loops) At 4:19 you add some stuff to your drum loop At 4:42 you stop your drum track and select track 2 and a bass sound and then you record your bass line Question: could you select track 2 and a bass sound WITHOUT stopping the drum loop on track 1? Can you do this on the MOXF and the PSR-S? Ivan
I am not sure if this helps, but you can press the record button a second time to enter rehearsal mode, select the next track, practice your part, then press record again to drop back into record mode.
Can someone help me? I recorded 3 songs on my MOXF8. The other day I was recording and it stop and the screen said the sequence memory is full. How is it full already. I can't figure it out.
Do you know how to change the tempo in a song? I've seen the sample songs they programmed on the keyboard, and at certain points they change tempo from 130 to 135.
Hey David. Just wanted to ask u something in case you can help. Sound routed through usb interface built in the keyboard is too low in volume when recorded on daw and inferior in quality as well. Is there a fix for it? Thanks
Hello Sir.. On this keyboatd , if I was just making a click track, is there a volume setting I can have for just the drum track not the volume for keyboard??
Hey David, on the moxf6 when i apply an effect to one track, it affects them all unless i decrease the send levels, however that limits me to only one effect type for my entire song, how can i assign independent effects for each track?
The step by step operation for creating a chain of patterns to turn into a song is in the manual on page 47. I will have a tutorial explaining the Song Recording operation in the future.
But that's not all about navigation with MoXFx, instead of the data wheel : 1)- Use the buttons A through H to get the categories, even if U're in a subcategorie U can change the categorie this way CATEGORY SEARCH button engaged. 2)- In MASTER MODE, u can select Ur MASTER MODE sets pressing the A to H buttons and the 1 to 16 buttons actually U got 8x16=128 MASTER sets!! Very efficient for gigs believe me cuz U prepare ur set list to play on stage very easily and go to next songs efficiently with ONE button!!! Think about it. 3)- In SONG MODE U can select the song manually by pressing the A to H button in conjunction with the 1 to 16 buttons, before U got to record Ur songs starting from 1 until memory full, as the MASTER MODE; 4)- In PATTERN MODE, the same buttons will allow U to sellect a PATTERN manually located elsewhere.... 5)- In PATTERN MODE, pressing the PATTERN SECTION button U can select the sections A to P pressing the 1 to 16 buttons... 6)- In SONG MODE/PATTERN MODE/MIXING MODE/MASTER MODE, pressing the TRACK button will allow to select the different track/channel 7)- Most of the editing fonctions (JOB button in PATTERN, SONG, MIXING MODE) use these A to H and 1 to 16 buttons to select a PATTERN/PATTERN SECTION, TARCK, and U can enter numeric values with the 1 to 10 (0) buttons when allowed.... 8)- For note value(s) and velocity, U can enter, directly via the keyboard, the note/notes/velocity. The screen is not so big but there's a lot of tool to get Ur music right in this machine so U can go quick and get Ur music close to what U wanted to. U start slow but when U can go easy in these MODES believe me it's very well designed machine. I like this machine because Ur not stuck on the screen as on a PC U play more than U look at the screen as other workstations Roland FA06 has great sounds but Ur always spining the data wheel man : U loose Ur time!!! With Korg U got to have tiny fingers to play with its touch screen man!!! All these workstations have good sounds these days but all have not this efficiency that MoxFxs have!! Sure MoxFx have their limits, SONG memory, no sampling, no mp3/wav/AIFF back playing, the keys are organ style....But, it has his style...Cheeeerrrsssss!!!!

Cool explanation. I see the value of the Loop Record function now. I will start experimenting with that. Cheers!
Thank u soooooo much!!!!! Very helpful video. I am a total raw beginner..and have to use the MOX F8 in a univetsity protools class. You saved me.
is there an undo button when recording a phrase
Thx for this. The first vid on the sequencing function that I have come across. :)
Best tutorial!! Have you done any for other functions on this board?
Hi some of the keys on my moxf8 keyboard have loud thumping noises when clicked particular the "a" keys is that normal?

Sounds different, feels different, very different features. It's a matter of preference.
Great Tutorial! Thanks!
How do you save what you just did? I've made a few beats and I keep losing it because idk how to save it. I just bought that same keyboard.
Thanks

No for both I'm afraid.
Try LoopMash or Ableton Live software.
Try erasing some of the factory songs, that should clear up some memory.
Can the pattern be used as the styles of the old psr models. ie chord changes just like arpeggios?
Thanks for the video. It helped me a lot. One thing I can't figure out. If I want to delete a track, how do I do that?
Jeremy Rabel
Jeremy Rabel Go into the "JOB" menu. Select "TRACK" , select the track you want to delete and press DELETE.
Do you know how to change the tempo in a song? I've seen the sample songs they programmed on the keyboard, and at certain points they change tempo from 130 to 135.
Hey David ! Any help on connecting to a computer ?
Man, thank you!!!
Hey David. Just wanted to ask u something in case you can help.
Sound routed through usb interface built in the keyboard is too low in volume when recorded on daw and inferior in quality as well. Is there a fix for it?
Thanks
Run it through a plug in to boost the levels.
Used a compressor and that ruined sound quality.. Is there any option in the keyboard?
Use a limiter instead. Also, the quality of the plug in makes a difference in the sound quality.
Ableton native plugins.. Thanks for ur help mate very kind of u to reply.
Hello Sir.. On this keyboatd , if I was just making a click track, is there a volume setting I can have for just the drum track not the volume for keyboard??
You can find all the separate volume options in the "Mixer" menu.
Hey David, on the moxf6 when i apply an effect to one track, it affects them all unless i decrease the send levels, however that limits me to only one effect type for my entire song, how can i assign independent effects for each track?
Make sure you are using the INSERT effect, not GLOBAL or MASTER.
Should work on individual tracks, no problem.
i figured it out, its in the mix edit...thx
How do you insert a pattern into the song mode?
The step by step operation for creating a chain of patterns to turn into a song is in the manual on page 47.
I will have a tutorial explaining the Song Recording operation in the future.
Thanks a bunch man

parece tener un sequenciador limitado
Excellente présentation dû synthétiseur!! Hélas c'est dommage que sa n'est pas traduit en français.😱😱💗
