      A company, let alone, a publicly traded company has multiple heads. Yeah she can voice her opinion all she wants, but just because she's the head won't mean much with people voting against her proposals, or voted out of the position if the share holders are not happy. The changes she might have in mind would probably be trimming the money sinks like Spike TV, sell off Neopets, and a few other things.
      But if she were thinking of burning down Nick and remaking a new and glorious Nickolodian from it's ashes, one that became about the shows and not about the marketing , that would be pretty damn amazing.

    As long as ratings are good, SpongeBob will NEVER END! I feel like our opinions or reviews mean nothing to Nickelodeon and that's why Viacom likes to take down videos that talk bad things about their shows so no one ever sees the videos.

    • @flowerbunny91
      @flowerbunny91 8 лет назад +9

      the show was Supposed to end in 2004, but stupid Nickelodeon exploited the news out of this show. even when it finally ends, I doubt any other Nick show will reach that kind of success.

If you want SpongeBob to end the best way is to not give their new shows any ratings.I know it's drastic but to a company the only way you can get the message across is to not give them any money. And in terms of TV that means just don't give them any ratings then it'll hurt them financially.

    I keep seeing so many people talking about how SpongeBob slightly improved because Stephen Hillenburg came back, but I think the positive change is more of a result of Casey Alexander and Zeus Cervas leaving the show. They both were writers on the show from Season 4 until the beginning of Season 9, and in my opinion, they've wrote most of the notoriously bad episodes from the past 10 years.

    • @flowerbunny91
      @flowerbunny91 8 лет назад +5

      i also think its because of OTHER new writers coming in 2015 and writing better episodes than the 2 that just left.

    • @avisreviews5471
      @avisreviews5471 8 лет назад +6

      You know, I never really thought it was fair to judge the quality of a show based on the writers on it. While Casey and Zeus did write a ton of bad episode, they still wrote on some good episodes. Some examples being Earworm, Squidward in clarinetland, Frozen face off, the way of the sponge, and chum fricassee. I always judge episodes based on there quality, and not by who wrote them. Keep in mind the same person who wrote Band Geeks wrote on Choir Boys.

    • @monstersreview
      @monstersreview 8 лет назад

      Yeah, it's not really hate, but it's just general consensus that most of the bad episodes that have come out of SpongeBob were written by those two.

  • @dmitribrutus5543

    I do agree that they need to cancelled this show because most cartoon in Nick didn't have a chance to shine. There were good old shows or new shows that were good: Avatar, Danny Phantom, TUFF Puppy, Rugrats, , but it will overshadow by Spongebob.
    Don't get me started on Kids Choice Awards, where Spongebob keep winning or rigged votings. Let someone else win

    • @flowerbunny91
      @flowerbunny91 8 лет назад +5

      well I disagree with the Rugrats part because Rugrats was around for almost a decade when spongebob debuted in 1999. I have no proof of Danny phantom being cancelled for the same reason either. But at the end of the day, Nick should get the blame...NOT the show. It's so easy for ppl to blame shows. And agree I'm tired of rigged awards.

      The reason Danny Phantom got cancelled was because Butch Hartman hired voice actors without Nickelodeon's permission. Nick was not too happy about it, and were like "well we are gonna cancel it." I have the complete series on DVD, and I was hoping that they would have lasted longer than they did. Valerie was going to figure out ways to hunt down Vlad after she discovers who he really is, and she may or may not have had Danny and gang to help her. That would have been great. But no, Butch had to scramble everything together to make Phantom Planet.

    I want Spongebob to end much like how I want The Simpsons to end. They've gone on too long! You can only stretch a show's premise only so far and Spongebob has long since passed it's prime.
    They are effectively dead shows and their corpses are being animated by the network but they have no thought left of their own. Someone please put them out of their misery.
    Take for example Patrick. In the earlier seasons he was dumb yes but it was the harmless kind of dumb. Later seasons Patrick has only gotten dumber to the point we have to actively wonder if he actually hates his friend because he inflicts so much pain.

    Really, Nickelodeon needs something new and fresh. Spongebob, no matter how much _better_ it's getting, needs to leave room for other shows to shine.

  • @brrgames
    @brrgames 8 лет назад +68

    While most people prefer the show to end after the movie, I personally wouldn't mind if the show ended at Season 5 (the season that had the Two faces of Squidward which is one of the best Squidward episodes ever made since Band Geeks) because a lot of the good episodes feel like they belong to pre-movie and they outnumber the bad episodes.
    But even if it's still going to run like forever, at least it has more dignity than the Fairly OddParents today. FOP has no more dignity now that they broke pretty much every important rule in Da Rules without any reasoning or logic.

    • @TheZags18
      @TheZags18 8 лет назад +11

      +BRRGames I agree. Objectively speaking, I think FOP has remained closer to its roots than SpongeBob in that later episdoes of FOP are more similar to its earlier episodes than SpongeBob. But at least SpongeBob doesn't try to capitalize on current trends. At least it has that shred of diginity.
      In addition to that, I honestly think the drop in quality from season 5 to season 6 was even bigger than the drop in quality from season 3 to season 4. If I had to choose any point to cancel the show, I would have chosen season 5 instead of season 3. Yes, there were bad episodes in seasons 4 and 5 that tarnished the show's legacy, but I think it was worth it to get some of the fantastic episodes (Fear of a Krabby Patty, Shell of a Man, the Lost Mattress, Krusty Towers, Dunces and Dragons, Two Faces of Squidward, Krabs a la mode, etc). There were a few good episodes of season 6, but I don't think it was worth it to continue the show just for those episodes from a legacy standpoint.

    I'd honestly prefer it if Spongebob got a proper finale rather than it getting canceled. Some series just get cancelled way too fast without providing a proper end to a story they may be telling. Here's how I'd want the series to end...
    Plankton launches his ultimate effort to get the Krabby Patty formula by launching a massive robot attack on the Krusty Krab. Despite Plankton's army failing in the end, both the Chum Bucket and Krusty Krab are destroyed, but the town comes together to make an effort to build a new restaurant for Mr. Krabs. Meanwhile, after the destruction of the Krusty Krab, Spongebob gets offered a new job in another town's restaurant. He takes the position, but has to move because of that. After the rebuilding of the Krusty Krab, Spongebob visits the restaurant one last time with his friends to reminisce on old times before he moves away, and when the day of the move comes, he says goodbye to all of his friends before hopping in a cab with Gary to go to his new job. As the cab drives away, Spongebob waves at all his friends, who wave back. The series ends with the cab driving off into the distance as the shot pans up into the sky, with the words "THE END" eventually appearing before a warm fade to black.

    I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't think the show needed to end RIGHT after the movie. Seasons 4 and 5 do have some bad episodes, but between those two seasons there are also lot of really great ones. In my opinion Seasons 4 and 5 deserved to exist, and if the show ended after that point its legacy would still not be hurt.

      +Maxwell Shapiro You're not. I like 4 and 5 as well to an extent. I'm happy they exist, but at the same time if the show had ended after 3 it would have been nearly flawless from start to finish.

    • @maxshapiro078
      @maxshapiro078 8 лет назад +1

      That is true, but rarely does a show stay perfect throughout its entire run. Rugrats, The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo and even Friends were said to have had dips in quality towards the end of their runs. But despite that, all of them are still looked back on as great shows. Even though SpongeBob's 4th and 5th seasons weren't as consistently good as its first 3, they had enough great episodes to justify their existence, and so the show's legacy would not have been damaged had it ended after Season 5. (And by the way, thanks for replying)

    • @sorryifarted.441

      But then again, the series wouldn't have been hurt if 4 and 5 never existed. Granted, it doesn't mind having 4 and 5, but it wouldn't make a *huge* difference.

      +PIEGUYRULZ Fair enough. Also, I mentioned this in a separate comment, but I think it's a good thing Nick passed up Adventure Time. Not only was I never a fan of it, but if Nick had picked it up, like you said in the video, maybe it would have become a completely different show. And since Rebecca Sugar got her start on AT, although I don't really like SU either, maybe if Nick had picked up AT, maybe Steven Universe would've never come to be. Plus, Nick has been showing signs of improvement over the past year--putting out Harvey Beaks and the Loud House which are two really good shows, cancelling Breadwinners and Sanjay and Craig and finally making the Hey Arnold! Jungle Movie, Nick will be better in upcoming years! Rejoice, Pieguy!

      I stopped watching FOP right after Sparky was introduced. That episode where he makes his debut is horrible. I didn't personally mind the Poof episodes. I think the show really hit a low point right around the time the Wishology trilogy aired. I only kept watching for the first live action movie because I have been a Drake Bell fan ever since I first saw him on The Amanda Show. I was horribly disappointed. I haven't been a consistent viewer since then. Butch Hartman himself still feel that show is viable. I get that FOP is his baby in a way but I think he just can't see that most viewers are not liking and have not been liking the turn the show has taken. Why doesn't he just cancel this show and bring back Danny Phantom for one more season? He has acknowledged that DP has a strong cult following and he tries to give viewers to his RUclips channel DP content whenever he can. However he just can't seem to admit that the show is ripe for a return. The worst thing that could happen is that Nickelodeon rejects the reboot. It was one of the best cartoons of the last 10 years IMO.

I honestly have nothing against Poof but I wish he had a bit more of a character. But yeah, I DO NOT LIKE SPARKY. In fact, I haven't seen a new Fairly OddParents episode in a few years. I stopped watching by the time we were in Season 9 ( When Sparky came around ). I saw a review for Chole and while I don't think she's as bad as Sparky, I can tell she was another obvious mistake to bring into the show.

    advertised a lot to make enough money, but why is Fairly Odd Parents still going? Personally, I think that Rugrats went through seasonal rot worse than Spongebob ever has so far. It kept adding new characters and didn't have the formula to recover from seasonal rot. As for Spongebob ending, like The Simpsons, it should end when it wants to. Since it made such a huge impact, it deserves to keep going as it wants. And no, Spongebob hasn't hurt Nickelodean. Nickelodean hurt Spongebob by forcing it into overdrive.

      If you had said SpongeBob wasn't the reason Nick was declining 6 years ago or more, I wouldn't be able to agree with you more. But what SpongeBob is doing for Nick at the moment is allowing it to not try very hard with any new cartoon ideas. As early as the days of the Mighty B!, it was clear Nick wasn't trying very hard with their new cartoons outside of gimmicks and famous voice actors. And since then, they really haven't tried. Butch Hartman's Tuff Puppy was the first new cartoon on Nick in years that seemed to at least be trying to be decent, but even then, it seemed to lack something.

    • @brettquimby3274
      @brettquimby3274 8 лет назад

      kartoonfanatic That's not Spongebob's fault. Nick should be looking for as much great programming as possible. Spongebob is trying to be better instead of just relying on its' name to rake in viewers. Nick wasn't really trying that hard, although that does appear to be changing somewhat. The Loud House, the Hidden Temple movie, and Hey Arnold movie are steps in the right direction.

    I feel like the end of Spongebob would inevitably mean the end of Nickelodeon...and I’m sad to say I’d prefer that. Once it does end (most likely due to catastrophe), the only shows that I know are still running new episodes are TMNT and the Loud House. Which they’ll likely run into the ground to compensate. Spongebob was my childhood and inspired me to strive towards a career in cartoon animation. It was even my dream to work for Nick for the longest time. However I’m sure if I tried to work there, my show would get tossed just because it’s not as successful as Spongebob in the first few years.

    On a separate note: I loved The X's! I wish more people talked about it. It wasn't the greatest show ever, but I liked its weird, streamlined, blocky art-style and it had a really fun premise with some cool characters. (GlowFace was such a cool villain!) I wish it had been given a chance.
    Catscratch was a great show, too. Though, it was weird that an adult male anthropomorphic cat had a crush on an eight-year-old girl. Like, seriously. That show basically condoned pedophilia (and bestiality, but it's a cartoon).
    Am I the only one who kind of liked Back At The Barnyard? I thought that it was really funny. It was really stupid, but I liked how over-the-top and zany it was. At the very least, it felt like the writers were trying to write clever jokes. I remember the show having a lot of fourth-wall humor and bizarre comedic cutaway gags (they weren't as obnoxious as they are in Family Guy). Plus, it was actually an improvement on the original movie, which was bland and essentially The Lion King on a farm.
    Meh... I won't call the show a masterpiece, but it was entertaining, at least.

    • @kartoonfanatic
      @kartoonfanatic 8 лет назад +1

      X's and Catscratch were both good premises that didn't seem to get enough time to explore their concepts. Barnyard I wasn't partial to, but to the show's credit, i have a general grudge against Nick buying the rights to make shows based on movies. I feel like it's lazy on their part, since they know the movie already has a fan base. It doesn't necessarily make the show bad, but they just shouldn't exist, really. I hope they learned after Monster's Vs. Aliens didn't work out that that tactic isn't going to cut it anymore.

    • @RyanStorey1231
      @RyanStorey1231 8 лет назад

      Well, it worked with Jimmy Neutron, which was a movie first. Plus, Both Jimmy Neutron and Barnyard were made my Nickelodeon, unlike the endless Dreamworks shows they have.
      Catscratch always reminded me of The Angry Beavers, for some reason. Maybe it was the overall tone and premise of the show. Apparently, a lot of people hated The X's. This is news to me. I really wish both shows had gotten a chance to explore their concepts.
      At least Catscratch lasted for a full year. The X's only made it to twenty episodes.

    • @kartoonfanatic
      @kartoonfanatic 8 лет назад

      *****
      Hm, I hadn't considered Jimmy. My head was wrapped around those endless Dreamwork shows. I think Jimmy's movie lends itself to be a concept that could be explored as a full TV show more easily than the others, but that's just my opinion. (It could also be because Dexter's Lab was on at the time and the show borrowed one or two things from it.) I apologize, was Barnyard a Nick movie? I suppose it was. O_O I forgot. Nick hasn't put out an animated movie like that in so long. (that I'm aware of.)
      I could see the parallels between Catscratch and Beavers, animals kinda dealing with humans every once in a while, but mostly keeping to themselves. The brothers trope also brings Beavers to mind. Catscratch worked because, well, Mr. Blick reminds me of Cat from Cat Dog, and Waffles and Gordon have their own unique personality that gave them all chemistry. The show would have been dull otherwise.
      I guess the X's was too similar to the Incredibles for some people, that's the only reason I can think about why people hated it. People don't like possible copycats. But that's why I liked it. We're still waiting for an Incredibles 2 and it's 2016. -_- I like that the X's never took itself too seriously, it could make all it's characters look very dorky, so it could do things that the Incredibles couldn't really do.

    • @RyanStorey1231
      @RyanStorey1231 8 лет назад

      kartoonfanatic You know, I have heard that people hated The X's for being similar to The Incredibles, but honestly I never saw the similarities. One was a family of superheroes and the other was a family of secret spies.
      The X's was mostly comedy, which worked to its advantage. I'll admit, I mostly watched it because I loved GlowFace and he had such a cool design. I liked how the electricity in his bulb-like head was always moving. I need to watch it again. It's not easy to find online, so I may have to do some deep searching.

    Spongebob should have ended after the movie. I was 11 years old and in the 6th grade and when I walked out of the theater I was like."Man Spongebob was such a great show" but with season 4 though present Spongebob has become a big cash cow for Nickelodeon. People will tell Me "BuT sPoNgEbOb HaS gOtTeN bEtTeR". It's too little to late for that Spongebob has jumped the Shark numerous times I thought with It's a Spongebob Christmas I thought the series would rebound but Spongebob Your Fired and Little Yellow Book it made it clear Spongebob Sucks now.
    I think Sponge on the Run is going to really hurt Spongebob now that Hillinburg is dead, that are tons of incompetent writers. Nick can't afford Spongebob to be in another a dark age. Aparently Sponge on the Run will ruin how Spongebob would meet Squidward, Dipsh*t star/Patrick and Capitalist Krabs/Mr. Krabs At this point Spongebob has become a Zombie and Spongebob needs to end and should have ended. Look it how Ed, Edd N Eddy ended Danny ended the show with a movie and people look back on it as a timeless masterpiece. Spongebob is being ruined not just By Nickelodeon but the Memes and Portrayed by Spongebob has also ruined Spongebob.

    I hope that the show will end with Season 11 and the Third Movie. Right now , the show has the potential to bring back some of its former glory that it had in Season 1-3. Right now, we have Stephen Hillenburg back, new writers and old writers (Like Kaz for example), and fresh animation. Also Nick isn't being dumb and ordering a MASSIVE amount of episodes per season. (Which IMO, is one big reason why Season 6 + 7 were so bad, when you make your writers write that many episodes, it's no wonder why there was little comedy and things were repeated so much)
    I am enjoying Season 9b so far and the show MIGHT be able to at least get close to the quality it once had with Seasons 9, 10, and 11. I really hope that this third movie will be the shows ending point and we will be able to look at it again with positivity.

      What if their parents buy the DVDs of early seasons? I'm sure the people who grew up with the first three seasons are old enough to start having kids now, so there's hope the next generation will be raised by hardcore _SpongeBob_ fans, instead of parents who view _SpongeBob_ as mindless kiddie fluff.

    Nickelodeon kinda mirrors the Disney Channel in a way. While not as drastic, I remember a time when it seemed like their only cartoon was Phineas and Ferb. They didn't air it non-stop like SB, but in between Suite Life and the countless pop star series (which is something I recall Nick doing for a while) that was usually the only animated show they made a big deal about. And before that, most of their cartoons were flash-in-the-pan stuff like George the Barbarian.

    Spongebob died well over a decade ago for me... it's crazy to think how long ago that is now. I grew up with the show, (well I was a little bit old at the time already) but it stayed with me well into my teenage years. By the time I was around 16 it was over for me. I really think the late 90's to mid 00's were Nick's golden age. Probably around 2004 when Nick was ending a lot of there good shows.

    Thanks for this. It's good to see you back at it again with the Square Theories. Yes, I would like SpongeBob to end soon. Wth the exception of the six or so episodes that recently aired, I have seen every episode. At this point, I don't really care if I miss those episodes. I would watch the new ones just because I don't like seeing most of something without seeing all of it. Now I don't really mind missing some of it.

    I actually liked Back at the Barnyard. It wasn't the best, but not terrible. I actually found joy in watching it. It lasted for 2-3 long seasons, but it lasted from 2007-2011. Not too bad, even though they had a hiatus in the 2010-2011 TV season. It ended rather well with a final, silly double length episode.

  • @lukerbom12

    Very interesting Square Theory. I personally have nothing but agreement with your second point, but as far as the first, I have a couple of things to note:
    I feel like SpongeBob's legacy will never die because a lot of people I know haven't seen the newer seasons and to be honest, aren't even aware that the show is still running. They just remember it as this awesome show that they grew up with, and that really won't change. The Simpsons, which has been a franchise zombie way longer than SpongeBob, still has a great legacy. I feel like it might help the legacy for all of us who care a little bit more about the Nick/cartoon culture, but to the average viewer, I feel like they'll always remember SpongeBob the same way.
    I'm not saying that I disagree or you are wrong in your first point because it will certainly change the way SOME people see the show, but from my experience and opinion, I'm not sure that it will for everyone. Do you have any friends, not in this online community, but just friends who probably watched these shows when they are younger? If so, how do they feel? I'm curious if your experiences are different or similar to mine.

    I think about this a lot. I don't like having to put a qualifier of "Seasons 1-3 + the movie" on what was once my favorite show. Yet at the same time if I don't do that, and whoever I'm talking to has an impression of SpongeBob based on its Season 6 iteration, they're not thinking about the show I love. So I often wish SpongeBob had its proper conclusion back in 2004.
    But it didn't. And I can't change that. All I can do is hope that the show can get back on track and regain at least a bit of the glory it once had before it finishes for real. The second movie gave me some hope. Not full confidence, but enough hope for me to grapple with to make an in-depth hour-plus review of it! My passion's still there because of just how strong the show was in its early years.
    And you know, even if the show doesn't get better, that passion you, me, and anyone watching this video can be presumed to have is how you know the show is true art. Because true art can transcend anything, even a bunch of lesser versions of it. And that's what SpongeBob has done, and no marketing angle can change that.

    The problem is that SpongeBob Squarepants is just a reason for Nickelodeon to procrastinate to take a chance for new, enjoyable cartoons to take its place. The same could probably be said for Fairy Odd Parents.
    I also can't help, but feel that the cartoons overdue existence has negatively influenced some more recent cartoons that come out with studios looking at the wrong reasons why Spongebob appeals to audiences, cranking it to 11, and pumping out god awful cartoons back to back.

    I think it speaks to the quality of early Spongebob that, even after it hit rock bottom, people will still acknowledge how good those early seasons are. Compare this to, say, Family Guy where people will generally say "Family Guy sucks" as a blanket statement. I, personally, used to like Family Guy, but now I struggle to remember why. Spongebob on the other hand, I still think fondly of early episodes like Pizza Delivery and Band Geeks.

    Reason 2 I completely agree with and was actually a very good point. Reason 1, I agree with parts of, like how cancelling the show on a high note is a good idea. On the other hand, I do think that there are things to be learned from the bad seasons of
    SpongeBob. For one, they can make us appreciate the old episodes even more. The presence of the bad seasons has allowed us to look back on the old seasons and not only think "Wow, these early episodes really were phenomenal" but also "Hey, the show wasn't completely flawless, we still had episodes like Party Pooper Pants and The Great Snail Race". The later seasons can also show the consequences of what happens when an almost perfect show goes on for too long; no matter how good of a reputation a show has, there is always a chance it can overstay its welcome and turn rotten. I don't know, does anyone else agree with my overly long comment? Overall, still a great video, though.

    I agree. I do hope the show gets cancelled someday. Imho only a few episodes of the back half of season 9 were good but most of them I think are terrible. Btw I love your hair and that Rocko's Modern Life poster. And I do agree about It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I love that show and Frank and Charlie are my favorite characters. But season 11 was kinda meh. It kinda felt just all over the place and like they didn't know what they wanted to do with the direction of the show for that season. I hope The Loud House takes over the popularity of Spongebob eventually because that show hasn't been out long and already it's proven Nick still has it in them to actually put out quality once in a while. Btw if you haven't checked out The Loud House yet you should. It's great. Made by a real cartoon veteran.

  • @quinnbeitzel9979

    While I do agree completly on what you are saying, there is one problem. The show has already reached its lowest point and proven it can get out of that hole, atleast quality wise. To give the show the benafit of the doubt and assume the rest of season 9 and 10 and 11 progressivly get better cant that sort of rebuild the legacy that seasons 6 and 7 tarnished. I mean if the only the way to go at this point is up then why not let it. I can honestly say that season 9 is just as good as 4 and almost as good as 3. season 9 is so much different than season 6 or 7 humor wise and animation wise it almost shows that Nick or atleast the creators of the show are trying something new, it may be the same charecters but the show gives a different vibe, a much better one.
