Sensei, what are your feelings on ibuki breathing during Hangetsu? I believe the source of the kata is Naha Te, and other similar Naha kata use ibuki breathing.

Ibuki breathing is great, and has lots of benefits for health, life and karate.
I like the exhale everything part of it for many reasons.
But when I practice kata, I mostly think for kumite, and I try to make my inhale, short and unnoticed as possible.
I focus on the exhale and allow the inhale to just happen.
But yes, Ibuki breathing is great, only one must distinguish between this kind of breath in the kata, and not showing the inhale in kumite.
Also same idea of exhale all air out, yet in the shortest time for making strong time in kumite.

Thank you for your detailed and clear response, Sensei. I'll practice Hangetsu with ibuki breathing for the physical benefits and also without ibuki to focus on kumite aspects and hiding inhalations. Are there any other Shotokan kata that lend themselves to ibkui-style breathing? Thank you.@@avirokah9294
