- Over forty years ago, the publication of ‘The End of Nature’ popularized a topic that was then largely unfamiliar to the general public.
The book’s author, Bill McKibben, brought the subject of global warming to light and has advocated for climate solutions ever since. In this #EarthDay special on environmental protection, he talks about the oil industry's PR campaign, how renewable energies can not only help the planet but also curb power abuse, and why global warming is an urgent matter that can only be solved if all generations work together.

Jovens Paradox: the more efficient the system, the more resources are used. No matter how successful wind, water, solar and geothermal, storage and biofuel become, more fossil fumes will shoot up smokestacks and out tailpipes, unless leaders curb fossil trade.
Cut 2% of today's level of fossil extraction, export, import, and emission finance, licenses and permits per month, down to zero by 2030.
Every month the economy will grow.

All 13 provinces and territories were affected, with large fires in Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec. The 2023 wildfire season had the most area burned in Canada's recorded history, surpassing the 1989, 1995, and 2014 fire seasons, as well as in recorded North American history, surpassing the 2020 Western US wildfire season.

Earth remembers what was done for VCR’s, electric stoves, and TV’s. For the unopened collectible trophies of Star Wars and Barbie dolls.
Earth feels the attacks for the PlayStations, cellphones, EV’s, and solar panels. For our diesel engines, jet planes, and Halloween Costumes.
When the clock strikes 2.5°C, Earth will drown PlayStations with her tears.
When FedEx fails to deliver our packages due to washed out transport highways, Earth will not care that we are unable to give a one star review to Amazon due to internet being down.
And Earth will not hear our cries over her thunder as we shout, “but we wanted to create economic growth and prosperity!” When the clock strikes 2.5°C.
Whisper the words to 2.5°C on every Bday, anniversary, and baby shower. Wedding, Black Friday and Xmass season, as the fourth fiscal quarter closes.
And then humans will have forced Earth to wash herself clean of us as her warmth ascends to 6+ Celsius. Her sixth extinction is now sealed. And it will be the extinction to end all extinctions.

"...this huge edifice of denial..." includes our dear Bill McKibben. Although he'd just as soon you didn't pay attention to it, we are now too many humans, using too many natural resources, and producing too much pollution, including heat. So, we are 3,000 times more numerous than were our ancestral ecologically balanced and sustainable Hunter-Gatherer clans/bands. Bill wrote a book, "Maybe One", recommending our limiting making little copies of ourselves, but has since shied away, doubtless to avoid being called a "racist", because half of the humans on the planet in 2050 will be in Africa.
The burning of 8 billion tons of coal annually, and 100 million barrels of oil, along with the Greenhouse effect trapping solar radiation, is generating the equivalent of 12 Hiroshima size nuclear bomb blasts PER SECOND, or 1,036,800 PER DAY, where each blast releases 63 trillion BTUs into the environment. Mother Nature's handwriting can be seen in the 1.2 trillion tons of melting global ice annually (3.3 billion tons per day) absorbing 144 BTUs/pound of ice, the 321 million cubic miles of oceans heating to 70 degF, and the 1 trillion tons of water vapor evaporating daily. Even with our natural planetary AC on "high", we're still burning-up, with 10 months straight of atmospheric/ocean heat records. Bill copped out a long time ago.
Where do we get the fertilizer required to maintain crop yields? Another over-simplified example of greenwashing. Ironic?
Yep, this is something many forget: useful things such as fertilizers, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, (and plastics) come from petroleum. So to the environmentalist you could say, "See, we still need petroleum!"... but you could also say to the gas guzzler, "Why use such a valuable commodity just to burn it up???". We'll still need lots of petroleum but we won't need to waste it as a primary fuel for much of transportation.
@@rogerhaun9340 Part of the issue is - what do you now do with all those waste petroleum distillates? If you still want the plastics and fertilizer, you have to do the full cracking process to get the specific components you do want. Plastics and fertilizer only uses a portion of the oil. That leaves a lot of volatile organic compounds (VOCS) to dispose of. Given their energy content, they are too valuable to not use...
The reality is we will not be getting off of fossil fuels. We're riding that train to the end of the line...(sigh)

Hansen has a PhD in astronomy and was a NA$A _administrator- who sold his name for a $1.3M EU award, then had to retire retroactively or go to IRS tax prison. Mann's hockey stick was refuted -in court,_ when he claimed his dog ate the data hard drive. al-Gore's Carbon Cap & Trade Scheme (actual legal name) is a criminal greenmail extortion racket, but it's making Wall Street and Government extremely rich. _So where's Hillary?_
