The Surge line sets itself apart in that the power curve for the torque distribution is much flatter and more consistent than non-Surge tools which allows you to drive screws in faster. Another benefit is that it's much quieter and vibrates way less than the standard non-surge tools as well.

I have the Mikita oil based driver and like it. I don't have the Milwakuees yet, but I would not call one of these drivers a luxury. Once you use them you will keep them and use them over your other stuff, unless your driving really long lag bolts.

I run the M12 Surge and the M18 Impact Driver, along with the M18 Hammer Drill. I find the M12 Surge is perfect because of it's size, smoothness and torque. It works great as a driver or as a drill with hex bits. It has become my primary tool because of it's compactness and versatility to be a driver and a drill.

I think the M12 line is drawing my attention. Especially with the automotive tools like speed rachets. I say this as my garage is a wall of black and yellow 🤣🤣

I have the m18 surge and the m12 regular. I want the m18 regular and m12 surge as well. Just have to wait for a good deal. I definitely love the power of the normal drivers, but I’m so used to how quiet the m18 surge is, I tend to grab that o eat anything else (have about 7-8 different impact drivers)

I think for amateur users just skip the hex version and get the surge on its own.

I recently picked up the M12 Surge kit (same displayed here) for $179 (wanted to wait for a sale, but after a month+, HAD to have it). HD currently has the M18 Surge w/ both, a 2.0ah & a 5.0 ah battery & charger (no bag, tho) for $199...(regularly $399, ...or so the ad says). Curious as to which one you like more. For the $20 difference, I'm VERY tempted to return the M12 kit & pick up the M18....but, wanted to ask which of the 2 you prefer. Appreciate any input/advice you can provide.
