"The Ink Well" was right after "Menace..." and made me see Larenz as a true actor. He was careful not to let Hollywood box him into typecast roles. It was a brilliant career move.
I love seeing the friendship between you two! Larenz is a phenomenal actor that has been in iconic movies...keep up the good work. Gen X actors are the best!!🥰😍🙂😘
These two Black gentlemen are the "epitome" of the modern husband, friend, lover, fathers are supposed to be. Black does not crack! Larenz looks 30 (he's Vegan, no wonder). Takes good care of himself. Great conversation. Thanks guys.
Larenz can't be touched. All his acting in different movies seems to come from the heart. The Dead Presidents soundtrack was it, still is! You look great LT. Keep going!❤❤❤
Bill Bellamy you have been a great inspiration to our culture and to the world. We love you and your smile has a way of letting us know...everything is going to be alright. ❤❤❤
Chicago’s very own. Till this day the ending of “Dead Presidents” makes me cry. Hands down, one of my favorite movies. The soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal!🔥🔥🔥 I can’t even leave “Love Jones” out; one of my favorite movies.💜🙏🏽💜 Bill was such a hater in that movie.😂
Herbie Hancock. Ramsey Lewis. Don Cornelius. Donny Hathaway. Common. Jennifer Hudson. Michelle Obama. Thomas Dorsey. Miki Howard. So many greats from Chicago...
Love, love, love both of these Kings! To me, they've always been authentic, set great examples for young men, and just seem like great individuals all around.
Amazing interview especially with an icon like Larenz Tate. Dead Presidents is one of my favorite films and the range that Larenz portrayed was top notch Oscar quality! That film was one of the reasons why I wanted to become an actor. Thank you Mr.Tate and you’re definitely our black Leo DiCaprio 😎👍🏾🙌🏾
I loved Lorenz from day one!!! Brilliant on so many levels! I actually visited filming locations from Love Jones when I was in Chicago! 20 years later it’s still one of my favorite love stories!❤
LOVING THIS PODCAST AND INTERVIEW!!!! 2 OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE IN THE BUSINESS!!! I'M SO HAPPY TO FIND OUT THEY HAVE BEEN GOOD FRIENDS FOR YEARS!!!! BILL BELLAMY HAS ALWAYS BEEN BEEN EXTREMELY FUNNY TO ME. I LOVE HIS STAND UP COMEDY!!! I'VE BEEN A FAN OF HIS FROM THE BEGINNING OF HIS CAREER!!! WHEN HE USED TO DO THE SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK ROUTINE!!!! THE SAME FOR LARENZ. I'VE BEEN A FAN OF HIS FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!!! HE'S AN OUTSTANDING, AWESOME, EXTREMELY TALENTED, GREAT ACTOR!!!!👍👏👏🔥🔥🎉🎉🎉🎉🏆🏆⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️🙂
I love y’all!🎁 Larenz, I appreciate you in the podcast series about Bronzeville with Laurence Fishburne. It was so good! You are a diverse actor that embodies whatever role you play!🎁
Larenz Tate ...as someone that lives with Sickle Cell Anemia...let me thank you for all that you do for the National Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation.... you are much appreciated.
I watched this all the way through! My Chicagoan brother Mr. Tate! 😂 ima youngster compared to you Legends!! Mr. Bellamy… another great episode! Felt like I was there with y’all some of them stories. Also me & your brother share the same name Julius haha.
I think people don't appreciate how versatile Lorenz Tate. To go from Menace II Society to Inkwell playing polarizing characters says so much about his range of acting. Shout out to Lorenz Tate.
Love this interview. So many layers. Love Jones, Dead Presidents and The F. L. Story, I can watch over and over--actually, I have. Also, appreciate the passion around community service. Larenz asked what happened to those thriving Black communities--that were also in other cities including the south like Black Wall Street???? It's called INTEGRATION. Segregation forced Blacks to do what some other communities still do, and that's support and patronage those who look like you. Our doctors were Black, our teachers, the bus station owners, the Negros baseball leagues, everything was Black-owned with Black support. Our wealth was disbursed at integration, and the neighborhoods and jobs disappeared, and eventually replaced with crime. Keep up the good work fellas!
Bill, Your show is soo FIRE and sooo necessary!!! I love and appreciate the honesty and sincerity of ALL of your interviews. I love this interview with Larenz. I learned so much about him as a person, a Black man, friend, husband and father!! So proud of both of you!!
Um! So what you tryna say, Bill Bellamy!?! I am a woman with a degree in biology who works in healthcare. In 7th grade when I saw the video slowed down of a toilet being flushed, and in HS (early 90s) when we did the door knob/water faucet swap...I was done!!! I am self diagnosed, lightweight OCD and I wash my hands multiple times a day. I also have a small bottle of lotion for my hands and a small container of Vaseline for my lips in multiple places. LOL
It's 2 blessed women who have handsome husbands no matter whatever their flaws we all have them. Over all they are 2 legendary good guys in the industry with big hearts I love them both 4life!💯✌🏾❤️
Awesome interview! Y'all had me cracking up 😂😂 gotta love yall both 2 legends in the game! And Larenz is mt forever fine man in my head!😂😂💯💯🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We dont talk about the house or the mansion, but never the foundation!! Larenz Tate is part of the foundation of my childhood. When you crave attention they celebrate it, but staying humble only gets tolerated!!!!!😢😅😂😂😊 Dope interview though. He need more flowers 💐 🎉❤
"Remember when Larenz Tate beat Terrence with the pool stick Or when Caine pistol whipped Chauncy and that fool snitched Sent the tape to Bill Duke, would've went to jail If he wouldn't have got killed in that drive-by by the dude he kicked Cause he was like, "It ain't mine" And she was like, "You the only guy that I do it with" " - Lupe Fiasco
The friendship between these two is genuine. They really do come across like brothers
🖤🖤
Yep! This is one of the best interviews ever...!!! 👍🏽 👍🏽 👍🏽

I remember Larenz back in ‘86 in an episode of Hunter as Sporty James’ nephew.
Great conversation, gentlemen! FYI: Red Foxx was a St. Louis native, not Chicago.
Larenz played Quincy Jones in Ray, correct?
I watch a lot of interviews, and this has to be in my top five ever. Lorenz does not get his just do. Absolutely amazing actor.
