- Dead Rising is one of the most important zombie games of all time. Without the success of this game countless other games in the genre may have never existed. It's groundbreaking game play and comical yet terrifying atmosphere still make it enjoyable to play to this very day. Despite this the game in many aspects is very out doubted and I can't help but feel a remake would help bring the franchise back into the spotlight.

The AI is the only thing keeping me from consistently enjoying this game. How stupid the surviviors are is beyond frustrating.
They aren't too bad, you don't really need to save that many of them, it's also more fun to get them killed tbh lol
@@senorgato4273 if you want the platinum trophy then yes, you do have to save them. There’s a trophy/achievement for rescuing 50 survivors.

I always found it interesting how some survivors were inherently worse than others. Its made it feel like each AI had their own unique personality, not just a different combo of base stats. It made every encounter feel unique.
State of decay would’ve benefited from doing something similar, instead it had the perma death gimmick but I digress
I think if Capcom remade dead rising, they would benefit the most by remaking dead rising fully on its original story.
The game had a more dark and serious story, but do to time restrictions characters, storylines were cut to help it release on time.
The true eye cult had a more involved role than it did in release.
The girl from the idle cutscene was scheduled to be a main character.
Santa cabeza was a lot more attached to psychopaths.
I believe Brock was more involved as well.
Dead rising remake can tie all these things that were initially planned included.
We'd get a dark deep story that is standalone perfect, while at the same time, get a real fun game to kill zombies.
I want a dead rising remake but the convicts HAVE to be reworked. Spawning On the first night and then respawns the day after ?!? What were they thinking…

@@VegitoBlackityBlack damn you must be lucky then lol. I had like four survivors after helping Brad with Carlito and I had already defeated them and I go out and the cutscene plays again and they crashed into me and killed everyone as soon as I walked out the door.
Actually and I've been saying this for years how about a prequel in the original we always hear about the events of Santa cabeza but we never see the events take place I think it would be interesting to play as Carlito and see how he turned into the villain he is in dead rising why he was willing to infect another country to get his point across and go back to the games roots with the time system and no combo weapons how does that sound

Eh I'd just prefer a new engine with more zombies and higher detail in the mall. Also better dismemberment system. Guns that aren't next to useless.

If Capcom is able to remake their Resident Evil games, then they should do the same for Dead Rising.
All I ask is that the make the AI less dumb, keep infinity mode, keep Frank's VA, and give Frank the ability to run.

I can't agree more in the ability to run, and making his movements more smooth and natural. The only thing i think might be a barrier to the run abillity is that the mall might get too tiny if Frank could run and making the mall bigger might not work gameplay and lore wise. What do you think?

Whenever one asks for a remake it's a 50/50 chance of getting a good remake or getting an unrecognizable game with the same tittle
I remember people BEGGING for a Gen4 pokemon remake (Diamond/Pearl) and i always thought to myself (why tf are people asking for a remake with the current state of pkmn games), anyways remakes come out and are just half assed "remakes" that added nothing new
@@MrLachapell although I enjoyed the RE3 and RE2 remakes, people despise the resident evil 3 remake so much. It’s really a dime toss for these companies to get it right. But honestly, I think it’s very very hard to fuck up a remake of dead rising. This game is so niche now, that even if the remake sucks to our standards, there’s a whole new group of people introduced to the game that may think the remake is good cause they never played the first one.
If capcom can do it with resident evil and still make them a genuinely solid and enjoyable experience then they can do it for dead rising :) I hope they don't just make a 6th one and they reboot the series with some darker undertones but still have a slight comical element and don't push it too over the top like the last few entries. Dr1 and 2 were a great mix, but I'd love it to be a tiny bit more serious and less whacky.

@@bigstevedzn2353 yeah it's just a shame they messed up the 4th entry and it potentially killed the franchise off. Dr1 was the sole reason I got a 360 back in the day and then an xbox one for dr3. I hope capcom reconsiders making either number 5 or just a total reboot of the series all together. I can only dream at this point 🤣
The first Dead Rising will remain one of the greatest sandbox zombie games ever made love it so much.
There’s no more iconic, more recognizable psycho theme song than the convicts theme song. It strikes flashbacks in all of us.

The anxiety that track would build, especially after killing them the first time and u go outside the next day and that theme kicks right back in. 10 year old me was stressing, "guess I'm not going outside again cuz f*ck fighting them again"

Man, I spent hundreds of hours playing this on 360. Even spending an entire weekend doing the 7 day survivor (and shitting myself that my console would die doing it) and trying to do the perfect story run.
Although I couldn't get back into it with the remaster. Maybe the nostalgia was greater than my want to play it. But damn, I have good memories of playing this. Reminds me of a simpler time.

Not Dead rising 4 ruined the whole saga, the ones that ruined this saga was Capcom Vancouver who developed DR2 off the record with different team since then, problems started with that game until they ended up with DR4, but it's also the fans who wanted a game without time limit and make the game go away from the hard challenge, i still liked DR4 and as a DR because it's still kept the genre of the past games but taking away another big detail is not always good.

As someone who 100%d dead rising 1? I don't think a remake could work. Something about its VERY particular jank (being developed by people who had only ever worked on PS2 and used a lot of the same tricks and effects that made PS2 games so iconic looking) would be IMPOSSIBLE to replicate. The timing of animations and hits is so precise to how the game feels that I don't think it would work if a modern stab was taken

This is very true, there's so much exact controls and texture work that holds up from early titles that it's almost impossible to properly replicate now, i mean they couldn't replicate that many zombies on screen without performance issues ever again since 2

13:23 Her AI is actually really well designed to listen to you and adapt to what you're doing. This is just hivemind mentality saying the same mantra since 2005 since Ashley is an annoying character. If you say wait, she waits. If younsay follow, she follows. If you aim, she ducks or magnistises to your back if close enough. Honestly what an underthought statment. You can even use her to bait enemies if you're good enough with wait follow me commands. She is only stupid with bear traps, that's the one and only point.
When I was a teen this game was so anxiety inducing, mostly because of the time limits, that I never got to play more than a few hours. Last month I grabbed the remastered version for PS4 and had a blast. Honestly, I think it holds really well once you get used to the mechanics and movement, even getting the 7 days survivor trophy was fun to do and it has one of the most satisfying platinums to get because it requires real hard work and planning ahead. If you have a knack for zombie games this one is a must. I don't know about it's predecessors but this game truly is unique. Great essay video!
It has just got to happen, this game is indescribably good and needs the remake treatment.
Honestly, DR1 has to be one of the top 10 games out there, which for an early title of a new generation is very impressive since the extent of pushing that hardware was no where near where it was at the end of the 360's life time.
I think if enough videos like yours (which was the best one I've seen so far) I think the DR fanbase can really get Capcom invested. I mean hell, if the Command and Conquer fan base got **EA** to listen to them, we can surely get Capcom to remake and reboot the DR series. Because, let's be honest, four really caused a desperate need to hit the reboot button in terms of the story and with a revised story we could see beta elements. Also, if you don't know STiP0, look him up, he has a lot of great videos about the first games development, its many betas and overall development and all his videos are great just due to his sheer passion in the game.

This is a great video, sums up a lot of my own feelings towards this game, and it also made me laugh a lot more than I would've expected, like the beginning with the "simple chimp brains" bit. You deserve a lot more views and subs, for sure

Honestly great video man. I myself a few years back experienced dead rising for the first time and man you nailed it. This game deserves a remake so badly and I’m glad I’ve found someone that agrees with me on it. Your video describes everything so greatly and I love it. Definitely deserves more attention.

For me, the kind of game that classifies being worthy of being remade is a game where it's "ideas outgrew technological limitations"
The fear of remakes(and is only being proven to be true) is that it's only going to stifle creativity and new IPs in order to churn out half-baked games when the original was never in need of being remade, can you seriously tell me that RE4 and Dead Space need a remake? The games aged perfectly fine.
Circling back around to Dead Rising, I would say outside of the infamously bad AI and poor framerate(that was later amended due to better technology anyways) the game gets it's ideas across well enough and while not perfect, the game has a special feel to it. Jank can sometimes add a special charm. In conclusion, Dead Rising does not need to be remade.

havnt watched the video yet, but i play dead rising on pc almost everyday. the modding community is greaat too. they do some pretty crazy/game changing things to keep it fresh. the pc version is best imo and ive owned it it on all the platforms at a time. my point is, i think the pc version is the best it can possibly get. looks AMAZING too. especially when compared to games today in 2022. idk just my opinion tho

Dead Rising was the first game i had for my 360 and I fell deeply into its world and characters.
I remember before it got released, I would download any videos of it I could find and burn them to a DVD to watch on the big screen with friends
Honestly despite all the improvements the future installments made and Dead Rising 4 I actually think Dead Rising 1 still remained the best in the franchise in terms of a balanced package between story, gameplay, setting and characters. The strict time schedule and STUPID survivor AI also do add to the overall experience even if it does make you want to pull your hair out to feel some catharsis, it’s ironically what adds all the stress of surviving in your zombie setting while the zombies are mostly just there.

amazing video. I too love DR1 with a passion. its the whole reason I wanted a 360 before Halo 3 came out. The trailer to this game kind of sold me on it too. It is currenly on sale on steam for 6 bucks and I picked it up for my steam deck to do a replay again.
Dead Rising is such a love letter to Romero, lots of references to Dawn & Day of the Dead! It has a very similar tone to Dawn, like how Dawn takes it’s main plot seriously but has a comedic edge to it (the pie scene is very dead rising, and the comic-esc desire Romero was going for) Zombies seen pushing shopping carts, as if they remember their past lives which was a big theme in both films 😁
If you’re a big fan of this game, I highly recommend watching its biggest influence; the brilliant Day & Dawn of the Dead 🙌
What I really loved about dead rising is the atmosphere like them mom and daughter clip at the beginning the game felt more serious not to serious but serious enough to give you a sense of urgency

Honestly even just a complete modern redone, like the Resident Evil titles, will do such a huge justice to Deadrising. But it would be great to get that modern touch while adding a large amount of new gimmicks and creative endeavors. Incorporating a darker tone and the flushed out story we were supposed to get originally, would be the best choice of action. The “kill with just about anything” can be done to balance the darker tone with fun. Hell maybe even a co-op campaign ability could really make the game fun as friends always do. Keep the core but build even more upon it. Maybe even possibly combining 1 & 2 together to create one large zombie onslaught title. We have the technology to endorse and deploy a very great title for Capcom. I really don’t understand why Capcom hasn’t jumped onto this opportunity. It’s a cash pile waiting to be taken. No one wants new titles just the first two provided with todays capabilities. It would be an instant buy from me, if done justice.

I sure has hell don't want a remake. The original team made this with love I don't think modern devs understand the magic that went into the first game of the series I can't imagine how bad they would fuck up this game like they did with DR4. I don't see what needs to be "remade" (besides fixing survivor AI) the whole charm of the game comes from it's somewhat weird and janky gameplay. I also love the graphics for this game for me it also adds on to that special charm I wouldn't want to see some super HD realistic nonsense. Instead of failing to recrate the magic just make some spinoff or prequel that takes place in DR1 instead. Kinda of like what RWS did when Postal 3 came out it was so bad they made a new dlc for Postal 2 their 12 year old game at the time.
Mixed feeling about fixing ai if there was a remake, maybe have old and new ai settings. Or if you turn up the difficulty the ai goes down because I don't think I would enjoy the game as much without the completely insane struggle of the ai of survivors
YES!!!! Theoretically Dead Rising was supposed to have another sequel after the release of Dead Rising 4. Dead Rising 5 was canceled because the media review say that Dead Rising 4 was a terrible game after it's released, I don't know why since Dead Rising is the real Resident Evil. Because in any zombie apocalypse whether if it's movies or games, you're supposed to use anything as a weapon to defend yourself with and that includes the zombies. Not just guns, knives, grenades, etc especially when you got to search for them knowing that there's objects that can be used as a weapon right next to you. So I hope Dead Rising gets a remake. Just another game to add to my achievement list.

Yeah no. Don't get me wrong, I love Dead Rising. But it is not perfect. The AI needs real work. DR2 fixed a LOT of the issues I had with DR 1.

Yeah all I’d want in a DR remake is better graphics, better survivor pathing and to fix all the dumb FPS glitches.
Easily one of the best games I’ve ever played though
I agree with everything except more locations. I believe the perfect amount of shops and locations you can explore in the dead rising games reached a high point in dr2. The stores and restaurants in the 1st 2 games felt like they each had their own unique flair. It also felt more open due to having the enttire mall open for exploration. In dr3 and 4 many buildings looked very similar or were closed off entirely making it seem bigger when in reality it gave the player less room for exploration.. With less buildings you can add more details and weapons to play around with while making it look detailed enough to differentiate between the different location. In order to avoid the grey dull look in the future I believe it would be best to keep the original playable area wothout adding anymore cases to ensure that the story could fit within the drastic time restraints. Getting the Saint achievement is hard enough as it is with the 3 day timer, so adding more locations/ side quests would make the game less fun and more of a hassle to play.

This your video is fantastic I could really tell you knew what you were talking about and you really got to the core and the identity of what Dead Rising really is. I finally played the first Dead Rising again because I never really gave it a fair shake back on the Xbox 360, but the re-release on Xbox One allowed me to give it another try. There's a lot of think is really cool a lot of small details the story is fantastic the atmosphere is great and I could just really reflect on how impressive and unique it was even for the time even today. But it was aggravating and I pretty much hated playing it. The things you point out like the AI of the survivors being dumb as hell some of the boss fights being hard yeah just trying to play it for the most part was not fun for me. You don't really level up very quick in the beginning compared to like Dead Rising 2 and I very rarely found weapons that were fun to use or useful that didn't break or were common. I felt like the layout was not great and compared to something like Dead Rising 2 where you could find a katana in a water fountain everything you found in Dead Rising 1 at least in my experience made sense for where it was, but there were none of those fun unique weapons like in Dead Rising 2 scattered around to just make killing the zombies and surviving enjoyable. And now I know it's not entirely fair to judge the first game based on what the sequel improved, but in playing the first game I really thought it was fantastic and I kind of really wish it did get a remake because it would fix these problems that I had with it and that way it could be actually enjoyable for me to play because I really liked it but I was too aggravated and I just shut it off and I gave it a fair Shake I played it for two days. If they ever did remake it I'd like them to tweak the layout a bit of the actual mall make it more streamlined make a leveling up faster yeah I better the game less hard I think it would be need to explore the actual town of Willamette I'd like some more unique items and weapons to be all over the place to make fighting the zombies actually fun.
You can apparently beat kent before the end of the quest and it will still count twards the peacekeeper achivement

This game is so good it even lets you make adam the clown look like a joke if you get to kill the convicts and use their machine gun on him. He blocks it so youll just have to wait when he's vulnerable
A simple solution to the survivor AI(in my opinion):
A setting that shows up when starting a new game that allows you to pick between modern survivor AI or the original, challenging AI.
Dead Rising was the last game that sold me on a new console generation. Not even later titles did the "if you see it, it's a weapon" mechanic nearly as well.

, I'd love if they remade the OG Dead Rising with the RE Engine and did something akin to what they did with the RE Remakes care wise. A lot of what you pointed out I 100% agree with. They can expand upon so much and still keep the original gameplay loop in and add more. I was thinking of them adding like a way Frank can actually access the security cameras in the saferoom at some periods because I know speaking with Otis can be abyssmal. If you're already in the saferoom and the time of day in which that scoops are involved happen, you can just manually look and see yourself to start the scoop. Prob throw in a little cutscene here or there for some horror aspects mayhaps.
And honestly expand on the True Eye Cult 100times more.
It would be cool if the game was fully voice acted.

Dead rising 1 was my favourite game on the original Xbox 360. Such a perfect blend of horror and comedy. Would love to see it get the resident evil engine treatment.

I would be worried about how psychopaths would be handled in the remake. Like, how are you ever going to top the original Steven and his lines? Honestly for certain psychopaths they should just get the original voices back to just add lines. Reuse lines from the original and add more.
The first Dead Rising is still one of my top 5 games ever. Western studios completely killed the franchise over time, but the first game is so solid. A new Dead Rising under Inafune would be my favorite announcement in a long time.
