- I've talked about the Dead Rising series so much on this channel and I thought it was finally time to talk about the underappreciated third installment. Dead Rising 3 tends to slip the minds of fans, probably because it's not as great as the first 2 but isn't as infamous as the terrible 4th game. Despite it being somewhere in the middle, Dead Rising 3 has a lot of great elements that fans tend to overlook.
The biggest reason this game failed had nothing to do with its gameplay or how it strayed from the originals. It’s because by the time it came out people were utterly sick of the zombie craze of the late 00s and early 2010s. The market was over saturated like nothing I’ve ever seen. Zombie movies, games, and shows were everywhere. People wanted something different, and you can’t make a dead rising game without zombies
For some reason I think people have forgotten just how insufferable and annoying the zombie trend was at its peak.
Also at the time in order to play the damn game you had to pay 5OO$ for a cable box.
@@thatoneantoid51 that too. People also forget how disastrous the launch of the Xbox one was. Almost destroyed the Xbox brand forever- they just barely were able to recover but they’re still eclipsed by Sony after so many switched to ps4.
Funnily enough the need for damage control after it’s launch was a major reason that Xbox decided to give all its console exclusives PC ports at launch, which was necessary to garner revenue and good faith from their customer base after alienating so many. The huge success of game pass and it’s increase in annual revenue for MS was the main motivating force for Sony to begin porting its IPs to PC, so in a way the ineptitude and shocking disconnection of MS from their base is the reason we have games like GoW and TLOU on PC. Crazy shit

I think one of the cons of Dead Rising 3 is the Darker & Edgier tone.
Dr3 is alot of fun and Nick Ramos is a underrated character. Love some of the new combo weapons like circuit saw and Sledgehammer.

I heavily disagree the game is more "realistic"
Just because it has a grittier look doesn't mean it's realistic, if anything for all the quirky and sillier moments 1 is still the game that seems the most "real" and grounded compared to any of the sequels.
Played a bit of DR1 at some point. Could never get into it. It just felt me. Eventually got to coop DR3 with a friend. It really was a blast. Never played 2 and 4 but I am guessing DR3 was the only good one since my friend refused to play DR4.
I played all of the dead rising games and I agree that Dead Rising 1 felt more "real" from the animation and physics

I don't think it has been forgotten, it's just that it's been over 10 years since its release. I remember that in 2014 and 2015 everyone who had an Xbox One recommended the game.
It's no wonder that it's the best-selling game in the franchise, even though it was released at the beginning of a new generation and was exclusive to one console.

Dead Rising 4 = 1.5 million
NOTE: All DLCs sold over 1 million.
I think the problem is that Dead Rising 4 did so badly that it overshadowed the entire franchise.

DEAD rising 3 was the goat. People mocked it for being xbox exclusive. My only complaint is it felt more of a broken up linear map then RD2. But it's soild compared to DEAD rising 4.

I've played a lot of dead rising 3 even the demo before release still go back to it every now and then. It's a great game never understood why it never got the recognition it deserved like the 1st & 2nd as a matter of fact this was my 1st dead rising

I recall having a fantastic time with DR3, DR1 will always be a special kind of game, the timer is a fantastic game mechanic, the bright and colorful world contrasting with the dreary undead was a great vibe and the gameplay itself was clunky but wonderful.
DR3 being smoother to play was fantastic, the tone was pretty intereting and the mystery of Nick's past was a fun way to reference the events in the previous games. My only gripe were the dreary visuals, maybe it fits some noir aesthetic, but it was the only thing I couldn't enjoy completely.
Game is a fantastic entry in the series, tries some things differently and does some of them very well!

absolutely LOVE DR3. On my second playthrough rn as I watch this video, and I find Nick to be my favorite protag of the main 3. I like how realistically overwhelmed he is throughout the game, like any normal dude would be. characters are fleshed out and the combos are pretty wild.
my only main gripe with the game is the open world is kinda annoying to navigate due to the size and layout, but I can live with that.

The main criticism I have towards the psychos is how tossed in they feel to the setting, the seven deadly sins theming doesn't help imo as instead of crafting psychos that naturally fit into the world they have to make locations that justify the premise of the psycho's themes. Kenny and Albert are an exception to this, but they have their own issues. Albert seems very random, it seems like they just needed something big to end a story mission on and plucked one of the seven sin psychos who could most easily be jammed in without much set up.
And the issue I take with Kenny is that his feels the most sloppy, you don't even need to do his survivor mission to encounter him as a psycho later on but the game still acts like you did it regardless. I have no idea why they did this frankly, seems they missed the point of the boss if they were just going to make him an available fight regardless.
I genuinely believe that 1, 2 and 3 are an amazing trilogy of solid games
Each has their own issues and flaws but I genuinely don’t bat an eye when people tell me any of the 3 is their favorite game in the trilogy
It’s an overall pretty good and consistent trilogy
2 is my personal favorite I just hope drdr fixes some of 1’s clunkiness, ai and control issues that make the game feel weird

I feel like this game atleast tried to be dead rising but with a different take and actually completes and treats any past characters with respect unlike dead rising 4 and it’s attempt to “innovate”
I think OTR is still my favorite, but this game is super underrated. The X Buster is the most fun and rewarding unlockable in Dead Rising
Dead rising 3 was a banger. Felt like a true next gen game at the time. I always loved it.
My friend and I played this together ages ago, and its the only DR Ive played, and I loved it, I figured everyone else did too.
When we play Dead Rising 2 im curious how it will compare.
Deadrising 2 could be considered a direct upgrade, many will say the first one is better due to nostalgia and the fact that it started the franchise. I think the second is so much better due to not only being able to play co-op but with the new combo weapons! Both S tier games but clearly 2 is much more improved. I just played Off the record with my buddy when the game was on sale on steam for summer, good nostalgia. Btw I recommend off the record if your going to buy deadrising 2.

i don't think dead rising should be open world, kinda defeats the purpose. maybe just make it like a giant resident evil map and do stuff with that

Dead rising 3 was fun as hell
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The complete character assassination of Isabella was unforgivable. She went from being vengeful to realising her brother’s madness and then working to atone.
She created the inhibitor and tried to make it synthetic whilst working on a cure for everyone. Hell, she worked for Phenotrans just to make sure she wasn’t in jail and therefore unable to help. She even tried to expose them when they took her work so she could try to prevent future outbreaks like Las Vegas and Fortune City.
And then they have her cause the outbreak of Los Perdidos? In a bid to find the cure not for humanity, but so she could restore some honour to the Keyes’ family name? It was a complete 180 of her character arc. Hell, even Marion Mallon was against it when she had proposed it.
Capcom Vancouver was a master class in character assassinations. Chuck Greene went from decent, upstanding citizen and devoted father to crime boss who was a devoted father. Frank West went from photojournalist who was a jerk but had a good sense of justice and the selflessness of a hero to a callous, sarcastic jerkass who would leave someone tied up in a building with a monster nearby. Isabella went from vengeful terrorist to an atoner dedicating to righting the wrongs of her brother back to being a monster no better than her brother with no build up.
With Capcom working to reinvigorate interest in the series again, I hope they retcon what Capcom Vancouver did to their characters.
I don’t think it’s the forgotten sequel it’s literally the highest rated of them all

Unlike DR4 where it insultingly assassinated and bastardized Frank West and turned into an cringy unlikable "relatable" protagonist.
This game however RESPECTED Dead Rising 2's protagonist,Chuck Greene and his daughter into a proper badass and made them both a genuinely likable characters.
Also Nick is surprisingly a ballsy DR protagonist,Going so far to literally say "I don't give a shit if she is your daughter,she's not your property" to mf Chuck Greene face ? that's brave.
While DR3 obviously has it's cons comparing to DR1 and 2,on it's own it's still a blast to play, Unlike DR4.
DR3's story and characters are lackluster, especially compared 1 and 2. It also handles Chuck really poor, in my opinion.

i never played DW3 and likely never will. honestly the big turn off for me is the bizarrely bleak and depressing visuals they were going for. which is fine on its own but the game itself still has its campy over the top feel with the weapons and fighting mechanics. it just doesn't make sense tone wise. they should have gone with a twisted metal black approach and make the gameplay match its darker tone and story.

I gonna be honest i really not a fan of dead rising as a game. 2 was too stressful to me and i played 4 because it’s was on ps4 and this game really bad.
I really don’t want to play the games because the game is too stressful with the time mechanic to me, but the super ultra dead rising 3 is actually the only dead rising thing i want to play because it’s not stressful and actually look much more fun and im actually sad that’s its a dlc and not a stand alone release like case zero or case west.
There are reasons why dead rising 4 is shit there video on it. It calls what happened by Matt mcmuscles it really good I highly recommend it if you like dead rising games

DR 3 , in my opinion, got the Resident Evil 6 problem ... both are good games overall, but not good for the franchise they're in.
Gameplay was top tier, but the story and protag where forgetable compared to West or Chuck

closed stores, no side activities, absolutely no reason to explore other than unwanted collectibles that nobody wanted to pick up
they took everything from previous games and threw it out for the sake of "realistic" graphics and wasted psychopaths

Honestly I would say DR2 is more forgotten and generic. DR3 is just DR2 on steroids, but DR2 is barely better than DR. It does nothing better than 1 or 3

Console exclusivity really hurt the sells of this game, why wouldn’t you want your hard earned game to reach as many people as you can day one, nobody is going to spend 60 dollars for that game plus the price of another console if they don’t have the right one. It’s such an idiotic marketing strategy from Triple A title companies that it literally destroys franchises. Also released games that are half finished and updated over-time is a garbage practice that needs to stop, the game files are already over bloated as it is and you wanna make me download more? I miss the golden age of gaming instead of this creatively devoid cash grab it’s become.

DR3 was a disaster.. There are aspects (fleeting aspects0 of 4 that I prefer over the third game but with 3.....there is nothing I enjoy about it.

Dead Rising 3 is a good game, but It was this DR who started changing the mechanics, storytelling, gameplay, survivors mechanics, upgrades... I enjoy DR4 more than DR3 because at least we got Frank West.
You didn't touch on the fact that in the dlc all the characters can create combo weapons and vehicles despite not being mechanics so Nick being one doesnt make him any more special than them. I honestly think this game sucks as bad as 4 does. The movement is atrocious and the entire games color palette is horrendous. The entire game and it's mechanics stray way too far away from what made 1 and 2 so great.
Plus people you escort can't even die in this game and friendly npcs can't even be attacked if you want to kill them. What a joke.

What? Sales aren’t a defining factor of popularity dude. Alien Isolation is loved now but it tanked in initial sales. Some games get hyped up and then just fail to live up to it and die out. It’s pretty weird to call dead rising 3 a more popular game than 1 and 2. Plus it isn’t even talked about that much, it was by no means as popular as the first two
As someone who recently became interested in Dead Rising, I have no doubt that the third game is the most forgotten. Everyone talks about how the first one is great, the second one is really good, Off Records is better than the second one and how bad the fourth game is.

Actually think it's really good, I got it on sale from steam and playing though it at the moment, the blueprint weapons are really cool.
Actually for me Off the Records is my fav in the series, as it lets you play as Frank in Fortune City and have an alternative story of DR2 but also in coop have Chuck Greene be part of it too. And it was the one game where you could play infinitely in coop with a buddy and have massive fun however you wanted as both great protagonists of the series combined. I never really played DR1 much back then and only really got into the series with DR2 and Off the Record, but i was hyped af for DR3 at the time and pre-ordered it back when the Xbox One came out (I even got the game before my console arrived so i was looking at the disc and were longing to play it). I never actually finished any of the DR games ever. But at some point i at least played each of them (and yes even DR4) and i enjoyed each game (yes even DR4).

DR3 is so underrated imo and in no way deserves the treatment it gets from the DR community online.

People always say the dead has before was horrible, but let’s be honest, dead, rising four was just building off of 3 with 3 building off of two. Two was enough to remove the camera, and then three was drastic enough to remove the survivors and fundamentally change the psychos. Deadrising 2 I loved at the time but as I get older it’s plain to see the downward trajectory began with the changes in 3. People wanted better controls not to remove the camera. Remove the survivors and then for completely removed psychos too. People didn’t fall in love with terrorizing one because they liked mindlessly kill zombies for hours.
Dead rising 3 was the best co op dead rising of all time! you could level up as player 2 to which in dead rising 2 you couldn't.
This game is fire! Anybody that didn't find this game enjoyable is dead wrong.

No game NEEDS sequels. But 2 and 3 had something to add, and add they did. The Dead Rising trilogy is a great story that ties itself into a bow very neatly.
