- One of the most brutal and beautiful historical fighter still flying in the world! Thanks to Swedish Air Force Historic Flight we can enjoy the sound and visions presented by this airplane.

One of the best Fighters of the 1960s and still not over the hill with mach 2.1 speed, 1200 mile range, and a 40,000 fpm climb rate. The old girl is still a Hot Stick.
And the first fighter jet (outside the US) with a computer
Considering that the first test flight occured 1967 and the airforce took delivery in 1971 and going forward, being one of the greatest fighters of the 60s is quite a self fulfilling achievement.
Whoever filmed this deserves a gold medal! Impressive!

Brilliant video expertly filmed. Thanks for not zooming in too much! I would absolutely love to see a Viggen fly in person, hopefully one day. That profile as it rotates away from the runway with that mighty engine on full reheat is iconic.

It really looks like a wide skirt and a tight top! Man, I remeber these mahines.Once, on an airfield, preparing for a skydive, one of these beasts did a practice run for the following day exb. I'm not kidding you! I was rolling around in the wake oft he Viggen... It was a 1000 m transonic fly by, and I had to start all over packing my chute...

Draken gives me the vibes of a classic Porsche car. Viggen on the other hand oozes of american muscle car. Great footage by the way!
I photograph Finnish airshows regurarly and wish Viggens would come here. But we get Swedish Historic Flight Drakens, which is nice.

Kronan på SAAB´s flyg tillverkning! Har följt utvecklingen sen 68 då Viggen visades upp för ett framtida försvar. Gjorde då min värnplikt med Lansen och Draken.Gripen var något enormt spännande och skulle visa, att vi va att räkna med-om det gällde. Respekten för flygvapnet var påtagligt, och det bidrog nog i hög grad att höja säkerheten i vårt närområde.Viggen och dess förmåga att föra krig , fick nog mången krigshetsare att tänka om. Skulle gärna ge vad som HELST för en liten tur med VIGGEN :, kronan av vårt forna flygvapen, som tyvärr aldrig kommer åter. Tack för ordet.
I particularly love this lady because... (yep I know it's silly) when climbing up vertical she looks like a lady with a beautiful dress, more than the following jet fighters with similar structure

Any chance that this beauty can grace the UK skies again sometime soon Mr Swedish Airforce? Please? I’ve lost count of the number of years it’s been since I lost saw a Viggen fly (and a Draken). :(
Since it can't refuel while flying, it will be hard, it will have to stop on the continent before reaching uk, I think one airshow doesn't worth the effort

The RAT on the Viggen deploys automatically when the nose wheel touches down. You can clearly see the RAT is stowed during the display. (4:51)

seems a lot bigger than gripen, maybe more of a bomber than fighter. but still a piece of art
True that, also Gripen contains alot of carbon fibre which wasn't in use when Viggen came, so they used Aluminum, the JA-37 Viggen had similar perfomance as Gripen C, but Gripen did everything cheaper so the government went with that instead, Viggen could easily have pushed another 20 years (retired in 2005).

mikeB1920 That's the AJ version, this Viggen is AJS (Attack, Jakt & Spaning), with the S being Reconnaissance, so with an international version number it would be AFR (Attack, Fighter & Reconnaissance).
Cold war era fighter jet, massive Engine modified similar to comercial airliner Dc-9 with an after burner.

It's a big, heavy plane. It is also designed to be able to make hard landings on pretty much ordinary country roads in case of war, using the reverse jet blast which also takes a toll.

F-16 is only 3 wheels
Viggen weigh 2 ton more than F-16, F-16 needs 2 kilometers to land, Viggen can land within 400 meters, the pressure on the tyres is just insane, they needed to compensate for that.
