    Sir in which state you are working as a resident

    When are you required to purchase your own malpractice insurance, during residency? Or not until you have become an attending? And what is the average yearly cost of said insurance?

    • @andrew8658
      @andrew8658 4 месяца назад +1

      As a resident you are operating underneath your attending physicians license so you don’t need separate insurance

      Agreed, but the US healthcare system is dependent upon the use of medical residents. Historically they were abused, both emotionally and mentally as the founder of the residency education system, United States required the residents to participate in the same hours that he worked. He was also addicted to stimulants (cocaine) which is a very good indicator to the reason he was able to “function” while working extreme hours weekly.
      It wasn’t until recently that fatigue guidelines, and our restrictions replaced upon residency programs. Yes, it is absolutely true. That residence once license to have a very high earning potential, but this also requires a massive amount of debt, sacrificing experiences (trips, vacations, holidays and other things that many people enjoy). They have graduated medical school, which in the United States, is four years in duration, and involves two sets of board exams. The hourly wage equates to near or even below the minimum wage.

      Of course, I am biased and sour as I am going to be a resident however, they are held to a high degree of responsibility of patient care. I don’t think it’s justified to be paid minimum wage or below that of other healthcare professionals that require much less education and training.

      @@brennengodeen3796Sadly in Mexico its still like that. I went into Orthopedics in Mexico City and besides getting paid the equivalent to 600 dlls a month, they worked us like slaves. +100 hrs weeks. With no benefits of being a worker. Hospital and health authorities all know about this but they decide to not do anything because health system would collapse otherwise. Also abuse and ridiculous punishments from higher grade residents and attendants are very common. After all this situation I decided to quit because of my mental health, people called me crazy for resigning from this "opportunity". So yeah now I'm studying for USMLE, it's not much better but still at least they believe in human rights for both doctors and patients. The thing this finally pushed me towards the edge was one day that I had to operate after 38 hrs in the hospital, I almost passed out over an 81 yr old man with a brocken hip, so I said "fuck this, this shit is not ok" and resigned the next day.
