Poor Dale. He must be really afraid of heights. If he would've gotten any flatter he would've been one of the deck boards himself! Good job climbing up there and helping out Dale, despite your fear!! And you've gotten your dad and sister in on the vids, when do you convince mom to show up and be part of the action??? Building your bus has to be a family affair!! Thanks for another great vid!
I met your dad at the Daytona 500 race not long after you got Navi done. He's the one that told me about the build and got me following your channel. Keep up the videos.
You mean that was Dale @ 10:32? I thought it was a super model posing! Yet another enjoyable vid. Loving this series. And your excitement is infectious.
You have a great dad that is helping you and keeping you on some what of a schedule my dad passed when I was 17 but he was that kind of a guy I’m 69 now so excited for you to be getting this going you are making so much great progress I enjoy your videos so much I am learning so much for an old lady god bless you all the lights look great can’t wait for your next episode ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🌈🌈🌈
love your videos and attention to detail, happy day when I'm surprised an upload is available for viewing ! Keep up the good content, great to have your father there :-)
just watched the whole build series, this is awesome! i'm doing the same thing with the same bus! except i have the 2003 collins not 2004 but it looks exactly the same! you answered a ton of my questions. i feel a bit in over my head never having worked with wood or electrical or welding before, but i want to be as thorough as you so that my bus lasts as long as possible :) thanks so much for all of the detailed explanations with this model, it's super super helpful and isn't going unnoticed! every extra little bit of info is so useful :) :) i subscribed and put on post notifications. thanks so much again good luck continuing the project and keep up the amazing content!
I have 24'8" bus and I'm using the entire rooftop for solar 6x260 watt panels. My wife doesn't like heights so our deck will be outside the back door. It will stowe under the bus and can be pulled out when in use. Just an alternative to those of us who don't like heights.
You're absolutely right, they will be blinding i.s.o. lighting up the deck, not practical at all. Also, placing that propane tank on the roof is asking for problems safety wise.... These are not very wise decisions he eventually will come to regret......
I really love your deck idea, and that's what I'll do on my shuttle bus. But, ... BUT I have the lights. If I want to look at the stars, I don't want to be blinded by these lights. I'll go with some siding lights that only lit down the floor, not lit up in my face. But the deck, no.1 idea for me. Tks.
We're planning on using this method for a 10' x 8' deck. I know your original engineering was for an 8x8 but then you added the extension to be about 10ft. Would you engineer the mount any differently for a 10x8 deck?
The steel brackets and support beams for the deck have angular considerations.. any data or reference as to how and where they were made? or obtained?..
Hiii!!!!I love your work and attitude about everything during your builds!! I’m currently trying to build my mini bus conversion but don’t have space around my area in New York(I live near Manhattan)I just want to know how you would be able to find a spot to be allowed to build your converted bus???
How did you figure the curve on the metal roof ? Did I miss it somewhere ? I think I would like a deck too , after watching y'all ! Thank for sharing your video's ! I'll be so happy when I can start on mine ! Have a good one and keep up the good work .!
not sure if its a good idea to mount a propane tank up there and have it sitting in the full sun might be better to put an automotive propane tank under the bus (you need you temporary unscrew the feed part from the tank and remove the pickup tube inside it to stop it sucking up liquid gas) and only have a hookup point for a rubber line with a tap to open it (if you where planning on putting a grille up there) not sure how it is in the states but over here we can fill our own auto style propane tank at the pump station (should save you some money too)
You " CAN'T " really see those lights at night (17:22) ? So why in the HELL would anyone want to buy them ?!? B. T. W. .., WOW ! What a really big DECK you have, It's COMING along so QUICK ! And, You're doing all by HAND too? Very nice JOB !
@@navigationnowhere oh okay well that definitely clears that up for this dummy !😆 I really want a short School Bus but for me no wet bath. And I know there is room in a short to achieve that. Also room for a stackable w/d or all in one unit.. I definitely want a home on wheels! With all the conveniences. Easy to drive which those are. Thanks so much for sharing I can't wait to see the finished bus. But that's probably going to be awhile since you're working on your friends bus for now.💗
HI Mike. Love watching your bus build. Look forward to new videos. Have to ask.......Is something wrong with your right eye? (I'm an RN, so it's hard not to notice) It seems a bit swollen or am I just imagining that. Be well.
Nice build, well thought out with the single exception of the gas tank. Others have mention low clearance, but there are still bird strikes and road thrown gravel to worry about too. (I know that 11 plus foot is a streach but I have seen it done.) My suggestion is to get a galvanize steel bumper tool box to put your gas bottle in. That way it is protected against anything but a low clearance bridge. A better suggestion is to use a larger bottle placed in the "possum belly" and refill smaller bottles for the roof deck from it. (Possum belly meaning an under body compartment, most often used as extra storage or luggage carrier.) Just food for thought.
@@navigationnowhere I never thought different, I knew you would protect it somehow, but, to me, it is still very concerning. By the way I thought I saw you just the other day in North Mississippi, same kind of bus and almost the same color.
2 problems I see: 1. The lights shine vertical making it difficult for you to see the deck floor and elsewhere. 2. Running the lights in series poses the issue if one light goes out then they all go out. 80's and earlier Christmas light dilema... Otherwise GREAT WORK.
They have enough room for the boards to expand back and forth small gaps. As for water dripping through, my other bus as a similar deck design and I never had an issue with drainage
honestly, i feel like a deck on any roof on any size vehicles is such a wasted space that could have solar panels to make more power. yeah i get u wanna lay up there and look at stars, but like it still can be done on ground too
It looked like you used screws on the hoist hangers for the extension and into the end grain of the beams. We're these structural screws? I am running into projects where DIYers are using common screws for just about every fastening task. We're going to be seeing some serious problems arising from that practice.
@@navigationnowhere Is the rail going to be 'bumper' strong? I doubt it. Hitting anything at speed is definitely going to ruin your day. Low Clearance signs aren't always accurate. Had a paving grew reduce clearance by 3" nearby, no-one noticed until a truck went under that would have been fine with the old measurement...
I wish I had a dad like yours!
That's a great Dad!!
“Yeah ... Whatever.” Love Dale so much. Also, you’re dad is a giving individual. You are lucky to have him.

I’ve watched a few of your videos, but I just bought a short bus to convert and EVERYONE mentioned you, so here I am. Back for more lol
Nice landing strip 😂
Dale cracks me up. He’s a great addition to the videos, reminds me of my uncle Larry. Also thanks for another really helpful video!
Love the Alien landing lights! Just kidding! Came out awesome!
Smart keeping the jack under the bus even though you have a jack , a good insurance policy.
Great job on the deck & lights 👍☕️
Enjoy working with your Dad,I lost my Dad 2 weeks ago and i loved working and building things with him, miss him terribly
Dad, Dale and you ....😂😂😂
What an awesome team!!! And of course Navi #2....
be well everyone💞

Such a beauty of a deck! Better hurry before it snows up there!
I know right ! We have it scheduled to be dried in and foamed before it gets to cold! You know Dean it’s coming quick around here
Those lights and deck looks absolutely amazing!!!! Feels just like home. ❤️❤️
Love those deck lights! Supper cool

Yeah , it just seems to keep calling me back.
Love the progress.
a roof top tent would be a cool thing up there!
Now that’s a good idea
Good ol helpful Dale
Looking great. To bad they didnt make those lights so you could change the color, anyways epic the way it is. 😎

Looking great! Çant wait how you mount everything up top!

Soooooooooooooo coool I love busses 🚌
The deck looks great.
Another great video...
Good dads are few and far between now days cherish them, I lost mine in 1993 and still miss him all the time
Not sadly, but sadly, I never had a dad to teach me “stuff”. Cherish your time with all family and friends. The deck is beautiful..👏🏽🇨🇦🚌🇨🇦👏🏽
Still might need some edge lighting so nobody falls off the edge. But great work! Very inspiring
Cool lights!! A landing strip for air planes!! Lol love it 😍

You need two more of those lights for you outside table : ) opps
Wiring today haha. 😂
Coming along nicely. :) Also can I just say that I'm so glad you're left handed like me lol. It makes things make so much more sense to watch.
Why not use invisible fasteners for ur deck boards? Luv ur work and knowledge. 👌🏼
Add lighting to Navi Senior if you want to. :)
Nice lights, but I feel that since they are pointing up, they will blind you instead of lighting up the deck.
Or is there something I'm missing?
You're absolutely right, they will be blinding i.s.o. lighting up the deck, not practical at all. Also, placing that propane tank on the roof is asking for problems safety wise.... These are not very wise decisions he eventually will come to regret......
Definitely blinding. Also if anything they should be at the perimeter so you know that stepping inside the square you're safe.
Did you do the math to make sure the ribs of the bus will support all the weight of the deck? BTW the deck is awesome.
Yes

So every time you need propane you need to get on top of your roof?

Great build. Do you have to take the tank(s) down to have them filled? Here they have to be weighed so the attendant doesn't overfill the tank.
The steel brackets and support beams for the deck have angular considerations.. any data or reference as to how and where they were made? or obtained?..

Eddiequest must have been in the navy cuz that's what we had on ship. He's right though. Make sure switch is water tight. Great build.
How much did the total deck process cost?
btw, aren't you going to put solar on front part of that deck?
Glad to see you've got an update..been waiting for the interior build. God Bless!
Did the drill break the one that fell off
Both lol Check out some of our rusty car buckets and let me know what you think
Will there be solar panels on the roof also?
Yes they will he mounted in front of the deck location
The house roof beads a coat of paint
Do you have a link or name of the lights on the side of the bus?
Recessed Deck Lights from SMY Lighting: smylighting.com/

Do you water proof your boards? Or just stain them?
They are stained with a deck sealer
Gotcha, thanks! Putting mine up this weekend if everything goes according to plan 😁
Rip on the Drill
Has anyone ever put temporary railings on one of those decks? I'd like one BUT I am that one person who'd either walk or roll right off of there!
Adding railing right now. Coming out in next video. They will be permanently installed
Should have wired in parallel shouldn’t you? Now if one light blows all of them will not work.
Sorry but i don't understand, what is the thickness of your beam 2x3... Thanks
The beams are 1/8 in thick
Rip impact lol
I'm wondering why you didn't put a small gap between the deck boards so that water could go through rather than over the boards.
They have enough room for the boards to expand back and forth small gaps. As for water dripping through, my other bus as a similar deck design and I never had an issue with drainage
Hi!
Yay, the deck is done and looks great!
Great tipp how to lay out the boards with the u curve up, I never thought about that!
The lights are dope!
you know...a bikini clad model inserted where Dale was lounging would do wonders for the viewership!!!! ha!
FOURTH!
honestly, i feel like a deck on any roof on any size vehicles is such a wasted space that could have solar panels to make more power. yeah i get u wanna lay up there and look at stars, but like it still can be done on ground too
Why the gas on the rooftop dont do it
Hi Navigation Nowhere can I hire you to build a bus for me and my kitties??? Please message me.
The deck boards are upside down

Looks like you shaved some tail lights since we saw the bus last...
nah, he showed them getting replaced with LED's.
Not much room for solar on that roof! !!
One accidental "Low Clearance" with a propane tank on the top is going to ruin your whole day.
The final deck will be 11.2 ft and I’ll be adding a railing in the next video. But, it would make for a bad day otherwise😂

Why would you want then middle of deck you wont know where edge is but if were on perimiter you would and too bright to be in middle
The deck isn’t finished. It will be getting railing and storage boxes.
Do not for get the height of your bus, (when you or driving around with a propane bomb on top of it)!
