Thanks for uploading this video, it brings back memories that I've in China during my 6 mths exchange there with my ex. I must say that Shanghai is truly a magical place, the rich diversity, culture, food and many of these that can't be described with words, it was the best time of my life there and there are days that I randomly zone out and remenisce about the time I've there
I exchanged there in 2013! You're video brought back so many memories! I was on the 18th floor too! (1809 I believe) I loved hanging out at Helen's. I was also lucky enough to get a scooter which made getting around fun and easy :)
I was a graduate of Fudan U back in the 80s. So it's interesting to see what Fudan campus looks like these day. Unfortunately there isn't a single building I can recognize!

This is awesome! I did an exchange program in Fudan in 2015. I was living in Tohee (at the other side of the street) literally you described my days in China. Walking in the same streets, the views, the cafeteria, the calm inside the campus, my student card is the same as 6:35 and I even met Roger from the Mom's place haha. Thanks for doing this video and bringing good memories back!

yeah FamilyMart was my favorite convenient store, too, it feels like no matter where you are in Shanghai, there's a FamilyMart less than 1 mile from you.

The phone itself was fine, it was probably a problem with my carrier. It was 3.5 years ago so I don't remember exactly, but I assume that we wanted to deactivate my SIM card after I arrive in China so that I don't get charged for calls abroad, but there was probably a misunderstanding that resulted in my SIM not working earlier than planned. I got the Chinese SIM the next day and everything worked perfectly :)
I got a germany sim card and when i came back to china ,it still worked but u need to pay much more than chinese local sim card! There r many free wifi-set in airpot and railway station, if u have problems of Phoncall, u can go there to get free wifi for searching city-map and trying to contact ur friends with whatsapp ，QQ，skype,wechat blablabla(but no FB )!!! of course u can buy a local sim card a day after arraving,but remember,most Chinese local sim card dont support INTERNATIONAL ROAMING,so that might be a Problem ! For international roaming of phoncall , u need go to China Telecom and then activate the service of international phoncall. (I think ,that u can communicate ur family with skype instead of god damm international roaming call)

I'm sooo jealous, you're gonna have so much fun!! As for the cold: I was freezing. The isolation was really bad and the heating in my room wasn't very good. Make sure you get a warm blanket.

Pretty cool and interesting video. Absolutely 100% know what you mean by the Chinese not really understanding the concept of an "ABC". I'm (pretty much) an ABC as well, I don't live in China, but I really felt this when I travelled China for 2 weeks last year. I could really feel it from my conversations and interactions with them because I was with a group of ABCs and some of us couldn't speak Chinese, and you could just tell they were REALLY confused and just thought, "wtf? how does that work??" I can imagine that you rarely ever meet any other ABCs in Shanghai and any that you do meet are either tourists, or from the US (as opposed to Aussie ABCs!). Hope you're enjoying yourself over there!
I really liked hearing about your first night in China. It totally reminded me of my first night too lol. I'm staying in Wuxi and when I landed in pudong it took about a 3 and a half hour drive from the airport to my hotel in Wuxi. Btw... the driving was NUTS! The driver was on his horn the whole time, and when the cars would get into accidents the people would just get out and walk from the car down the freeway. So like there would be tons of people just walking on the freeway lol. It was starting to creep me out about how long it took to get to my hotel, plus it was in the middle of the night... I thought he was taking me somewhere else if you know what i mean lol... When I got to my hotel, my internet was super confusing. My facebook, google, youtube didnt work because it was all blocked. Thankfully my co worker was near by to tell me that I needed a VPN... Oh and yeah I tried to contact my parents too and I couldnt get a hold of them also hahaha. Oh and when I got here it was just after January 1st (new years) and the start of the Chinese New Years so the fireworks were nonnnn stop! lol, I thought it only happened for that month but now i know it happens all times of the year ;) When I first got here I was definitely nervous, but once I figured out how things worked and how to use the trains/taxis ive grown to really love this place. I'm gonna be totally bummed out when I have to leave. I'm gonna really miss this place and the people*

That reall nice, cheap lunch, bike friendly love bikes. A subway close by, beautiful room with 2 kitchen on both side very effectivel and social and icebox in room, a Walmart down the road. And cheap not crowded eating shops all around. You made friends there, fun night life. Wow wish I had that that convenience. Mine a car drive between all.LOL

Awesome video! It's great to know that you enjoyed your stay in China! I wanted to go to Fudan University when I was in high school just because Shanghai is more of an international metropolis, which guarantees a more exciting lifestyle and more opportunities. Sadly my grades weren't good enough, but I guess going to Columbia University may be better? Wish me luck! :-)

Fudan is one of the top universities (I knew a chinese guy who graduated there). So the housing etc. will be quite good, as can be seen in your movies.
I think you can just ask the students in campus for help when you have language problems, since Fudan is definitely one of the best universities in china. I assume most of the students are pretty good at English.
Your stories about China are much more interesting and appealing than most of newspapers here is USA

Awesome video! It's great to know that you enjoyed your stay in China! I wanted to go to Fudan University when I was in high school just because Shanghai is more of an international metropolis, which guarantees a more exciting lifestyle and more opportunities. Sadly my grades weren't good enough, but I guess going to Columbia University may be better? Wish me luck! :-)

I think you need a hand-held stabilizer to keep your video image stable.
Fudan is one of the top universities (I knew a chinese guy who graduated there). So the housing etc. will be quite good, as can be seen in your movies.

I think you can just ask the students in campus for help when you have language problems, since Fudan is definitely one of the best universities in china. I assume most of the students are pretty good at English.
