Man I would love to fish with you sometime. I love how close to your family you are. You and your wife are such a great team. Keep the videos coming we love the content man.
I keep a bunch of wire leaders in my fishing gear for chain pickerel. They’re basically a small version of the northern pike and they have crazy teeth. Those are usually the only fish that’ll bite through a line in Nova Scotia, in my experience. Love seeing you helping others at the pier. Between RUclips channels like yours, and talking to people on the piers, that’s how I gained all of my fishing knowledge. Now I love giving back to the community in the same manner whenever I can. Also I love how much you love sharing Asian recipes. As a Canadian born chinese(on my dad’s side) I hardly know anything about my Chinese culture, except for our traditional foods. Cooking Chinese recipes helps me feel like I’m reconnecting with my roots.
I really enjoy your fishing 🎣 instructional videos, but the added pluses of your cleaning and cooking the fish , that you just caught, is a fantastic addition for those of us who love fishing… keep up this fantastic channel.🙏🏻👍🏻
Truly awesome catch and cook bro. Thanks for letting us into your home and spending time with your family. I'll have to try that recipe soon.....until next time
Caught a needle noes 27in. Hollywood FL. Real low tide today. Sep 2. Going back out at 6pm. And in the moring 5am. Oceandrive behind the resorts. There a lot of blue runners here too.
Hey Skipper! I hope that you and your family are well, happy, and healthy. You have taught me so much and I want to thank you for that. Potty Mouth Mike, San Antonio, Texas
Hey Guys Just bought all my gear. Still here in FL until the 10th. I'm fishing all week ocean drive hollywood. Behind the resorts. I caught a yellow jack yesterday morning. But you have to fish before 9am and after 6pm. Lets Go. Hope to see you there.
Hey brother we have this fish in Australia we call it a hairtail they get up to seven feet long here and they do get longer again i have seen one that was close to 9 feet long and what we normally do is u use a brand new sponge that doesnt have any chemical it and u scrub the silver off the fish then u cur in to cuttles
Hey thanks for all the great tips.i have been watching a bunch of you videos and i was wondering if you kill the fish before tossing into cooler? i usually take off head immediately and typically clean it too, before putting it on ice. i do it to minimize the amount of lactic acid that builds up, as well as other undesirable excretions like cortisol and adrenaline as i was taught that when the animal dies slow and in stress it affects the flavor and the length of time it will stay fresh. what are your thoughts? I believe the Japanese call it "Ike jime" but they send a wire down the spine to prevent any muscle movement.. i find that cutting head and tail off usually does the trick?
them knots you tied with the wire trace will end up slipping with anything big , when i make pike rigs (im in UK btw) i tie a treble with 2 overhand knots then whip the tag end back up the trace and shrink wrap and have the 2nd hook runnin freely (just shot it down to where i want it) + use wire cutters/ snips to cut it too or it will fray
wow nice catch @HeySkipper Here in the Philippines here in my province, we call it Espada fish ( Sword ), But if that is short we call it kutsilyo ( Knife fish ) hehe
Hey Skipper if you made a slurry of salty ice water it will take the fight instantly out of the ribbon fish and let you take the hooks out without injury. Is also preserves the fish to use as bait later. If your intent is to eat them the saltwater aids in bleeding out your fish for a better tasting meal. P.S. we eat them through out South Florida and the Bahamas.
In the Philippines they eat them as minnows. They dry them, and eat with vinigar.... oh so good. But I have been catching them in VA and DE large like that, chunk them and fry the bones are soft.
Your channel has always been awesome. Your a great couple and I love the family atmosphere. Sorry I cant make your streams Im either drivung or working. But I have been a long time subscriber🎣👏👍🏻
You might want to clarify the rig should only be used for ribbonfish because at least in Florida treble hooks are prohibited when fishing for black drum, flounder, permit, pompano, redfish, sheepshead, snook, speckled trout, tarpon, tripletail@@HeySkipper
We use leaders like those wire ones up here in Michigan for pike and musky, I figured they would be a good leader to use down in Florida too. I had planned on bringing a bunch of my pike and musky stuff down there in a couple months to try some of them out for salt water fish. You should learn how to make a quick strike leader so you can use live bait too. ;) Great video by the way, keep it up. :)
Oh I'm not picky it when I go fishing at least with the ribbon fish you don't got to worry about scaling hopefully when I get my vacation I'll be going to Florida to see my sister or my cousin who lives in Tampa I might try going for ribbon fish if I find a good fishing area
Going to fish Kure Beach and pier in NC October 15-20. Do you ever get up that way? Hoping the fall runs will be starting. Also hop the fish are biting enough to use your tips. Thanks for the videos!
Gracias , lastima que en el Sur de la Florida nunca e visto ese pez , pero la receta y la forma de cortar y preparar lo voy a hacer con las Spanish Mackerel pequeñas que pueda pescar
Is it that the beltfish are delicate or is it cause it's entire body is a fin making them a lot stronger puller and more resistant to being pulled around in the water, or both?
Hey dude, awesome video , especially with the treble hook trace. We catch ribbon fish here in Durban, South Africa, however most of the time it's used for barracuda bait because of the shine. After seeing how you cooked it , I'm going to try that recipe the next time I catch it. By the way, we call ribbon fish WALLA WALLA here in SA😂..Tight lines bro...
Right church, wrong pew. Kingfish fishermen have been using ribbon fish as bait with treble hooks and surflon steel leaders forever. Check out a few videos. There are easier ways to do this like using a jig head and treble teaser.
My experience with eel was spare fishing at the river "fresh water eel" caught a couple of good size ones 😊 friend cut them up and battered them they were so nice 👍 and you get so much meat actually a good feed for a party of people 😋
Go and watch pike angler's using treble hooks and creating rigs ... There's loads of them but UK, Poland , Sweden and Ireland.... Sorry but it's a bad way of tying a treble hook rig. Easy to come lose and you don't want that treble hook in a fish mouth or down it's throat. Love your show
Brandon, may I suggest you never have more than three eyes of your rod over the top of your railing. That way the fish can bairl lift the rod to pull it over. With the pole that way the cantilever action can't lift the rod to pull it over. I have hooked 4- and 5- pound croakers on our pier here in California and have never had the pole even come off the ground.

Funny how you go from circle hooks to double troubles now lol
Thank you!
do ribbon fish have tiny scales like mackerel?
The salt you were using on the ribbon fish bait strips, was that regular table salt or sea salt?

We make that in to jerky and fry them 😋😋😋 yummy fish ribbon jerky👍👍
i live near the tampa area mostly fishing skyway and ive never seen that fish until your videos
Grilled with some chili crisps added to the marinade will add another depth of deliciousness
Braided fish, impressive food concept.
First time seeing it.
SUPER nice thanks for the steel wire float leader will make some for smacks
I like that beat in the background
And that catch and cook is 🔥
Do have instructions for tieing the double tribble?

Here in Brazil we eat a lot of this fish we call it “peixe espada”!
Is it that the beltfish are delicate or is it cause it's entire body is a fin making them a lot stronger puller and more resistant to being pulled around in the water, or both?
Happy weekend also, good luck with your boat and hope the next time you go out, the fish bites so fast you cant keep up with them all!!😜😂
i love it awesome job and cooking
Awesome Bro 👍

Fantastic

Are the ribbon fish also found in the gulf?
Yes!
@@HeySkipper Thanks! I need to find a spot around me for these to try, they seem awesome!
Do you sell the rig you used?? Just out of curiosity

Wow, must have been good!
Dude I've been trying to purchase ur salty baits but I'm afraid it's not available in south Africa... Any idea how to hook me up?
wow very nice video
Thanks so much!
What pier is this?
Use hairtail tracker lights
So that ribbon species eats its own kind?
They dont ask before eat😂
Do the same for mackerel
All fish eat their own kind
Yes they do!
So how does the fish taste like
Where is the fishing pier, can we fish during the night?
and this is the guy who said he hated treble hooks
and had compassion for fish.
10:54 👍😂
It's illegal in Fllorida to use treble hooks in conjuction with live or dead bait
I don’t like steel leaders which if I did then it’ll require more tools to carry lollmfao😂 I’ll use long shanks if toothy fish are around

Haha good lookin out man!
You need a little pair of pliers. It will save getting bit and hooks going into your fingers.
That’s a good idea bro
You think ribbons taste good the under dog fish that taste awesome is puffer fish
We curry it with green mango.
Ha! If I can catch it, I'll eat it. 😀 I save my fish heads in some salt for crabbing.
Haha
3-HOOKERS ARE NOT LEGAL HERE IN Fa.
Second
Nice!
use pliers to remove hooks so you dont get hurt
I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR ABOUT THE SKIPPER COOKING BOOK
I CANNOT GET OFF CAPS
MAYBE I NEED TO RESET THE PHONE
Natures silver spoon (smell included)
I remember back then you said I am not going to use trouble hooks? Because you said it can miss out the fish is mouth?
Different for this kind of fish with sharp teeth!
It’s all dependent on The fish you’re targeting.
Different tools for different jobs.
He said about steel wire too
First
You rock!
Are you local to jacksonville?
I’ve never seen anyone crochet fish before
Comida rica
Something big was chasing that fish.
