Guess what year it is now??? Do I have to say it or can you figure it out?? See, it's stupid... and that allows me to retort with the same stupidity. Have a wonderful day

      @@Cozette665 in 1985 you had to order music like this back in the day. No air time , no you tube.clubs played all the good music that was underground.and yes it was labeled as alternative.

    • @Cozette665
      @Cozette665 3 месяца назад

      @@MichaelR-rs9ls I guess you couldn't tell by the laughing emoji that my answer was sort of tongue in cheek but it seems to me that you are trying to school me so I will school you back.
      Not only do I have a memory that would rival an elephant but 1985 was the most memorable and formative year of my life (and not for the best reasons). I can practically tell you what happened day by day in 1985.
      I was living in Washington DC.
      No I didn't have to order music like that or music much more obscure because we had Tower Records in DC where many of my friends worked and a record store called Yesterday & Today.
      Yes, I did hear this song and again music that was much more obscure on a radio station called WHFS.
      I was also a regular at the 9:30 Club (when it was on F Street that was formerly called Atlantis and I think they're calling it Atlantis again now), The Black Cat and whatever derelict building a band could plan and put up enough fliers for people to actually show up.
      Before I moved to DC I lived in the Tampa Bay area and was blessed to have had a radio station called WUSF that had a late night weekend show (Fri, Sat & Sun). called "The Underground Railroad" that played some of the best punk, post punk, goth and new wave music ever.
      I'm not a child and you don't have to explain to me how things worked in the 1980s dude. I was there, I lived it, I saw the bands, I went to the clubs, I bought the albums, I walked the walk and I talked the talk.
      You can call this anything you want but it wasn't called "alternative" then and if you can't take a joke now, maybe you should take your blood pressure medicine, go veg out in your recliner and watch some reality TV.

    • @Cozette665
      @Cozette665 3 месяца назад +1

      @@MichaelR-rs9lsMichael I was alive back then. Before CDs, cable TV, etc.and I must disagree with you here. But the comment I left you above was a tongue in cheek comment if you couldn't tell by the laughing emoji.
      It seems like you're trying to school me so I'll school you.
      I'm not GenZ or a millennial. I was 16 going on 35 in 1985.
      1985 was a very formative year in my life. So much so that I could probably tell you where and what I was doing every week (and in many cases, every day).
      I lived in Tampa , Fl. In 1984. There was a radio station in Tampa called WUSF that played punk, post punk, goth, new wave, reggae, and just plain old weirdness on Fri, Sat & Sun nights.
      Tampa also had a nearby record store called Peaches where you can find this type of music without having to special order it.
      There were also many clubs and bars that brought in amazing talent from all of those musical groups. I saw many interesting shows in those venues like X, REM, etc. in places that barely had 30 people there.
      When I lived in Washington DC, there was a radio station called WHFS that played this kind of music and much more obscure non-Top 40 hits. It played punk, post punk, goth, new wave, reggae, ect.
      In the DC area they had many record stores selling this kind of music and rarely had to be ordered like Yesterday & Today, Smash Records, Orpheus and Tower Records (I had friends that worked at all of these stores).
      There were a huge number of post punk, new wave, goth and just straight up strange bans that would play at clubs like The Black Cat, The 930 Club when it was on (formerly called Atlantis and I think it's Atlantis again now) and also in any derelict building or warehouse that could be found.
      I saw The Dead Kennedys, suicidal tendencies and many other bands in 1985. In 1986 I saw so many bands I can't even remember all of them.
      I do however remember a very weird encounter in 1987 with a little known band called The Jesus and Mary Chain (who sucked by the way 😂). My school took us on a field trip to a cathedral service in DC and then we were allowed to roam the city all afternoon. Me and 2 of my friends we're looking for trouble more than the cities great art so we were wondering around and this creepy white van pulled over and stopped right in front of us. The side door of the van came open and they were all these dirty dudes dressed in black. They wanted to know if we wanted to party and being teenagers we said yeah. So we got into the weird van and partied with them all afternoon. We had never heard of their band and I think they were a little hurt by that. Lmfao
      Anyway, they were going to be doing a concert at the University of Maryland that night and they put us on the guest list /will call. We did go see that concert for all 15 minutes of it. The singer was so drunk he couldn't walk so he just laid on the floor, one of the guitarist got angry about that and started hitting him, the drummer walked off the stage and the drunk singer ended up being the only one left laying on the floor mumbling and screaming curse words into the microphone. The good news is a local band called 9353 opened up for them and we had seen them around DC but that night we got to know them and they became friends.
      Also in case you don't know, The Cult is touring right now and so are Echo and The Bunnymen.

    • @Otherrandomguy42
      @Otherrandomguy42 2 месяца назад +1

      The Cult was not ever labeled alt rock 😂😂 they're a hard rock band. The reason they were harder to find in radio play at the height of thier popularity was because hard rock radio was being displaced by the rising wave of pop at the time.

    The beauty of The Cult is they were a bridge in the 1980's. They were the last of the fast paced New Wave / post Punk of the early decade with the metal (GNR, Poison, Ratt, etc) that would dominate the later part of the 80's. Their sound, typified by this song, speaks volumes.

    Back in the day, our heavy weapons specialist played a "wartrack" mix for our drive through the desert during '91. Sure, "Rock the Casbah" was there, but the top three were "Gimme Shelter", "American Band" by GFRR and this beautiful, bass-thumping magnum opus that on full blast muted the Ma Deuce the few times he fired it at fleeing Republican Guard. I was scared in a way I've never experienced since then, but damn that blend of adrenaline, testosterone & music was weirdly intoxicating. Thank God CNN didn't catch us on tape...

      I was born in 86 and I get fucking chills thinking about moments like that bro you gotta get in a zone. You gotta be confident to the point where you don’t believe in fear because it makes you weak man. I wish I grew up then.
