Spanian has made a name for himself in more ways than one. Spanian, has no filter.
I personally chose to sit with him not for the infamous slap, not for the negative connotations that come with spending half his life in jail and the crimes he's committed; but to understand the person who's driven by emotion in his music. Granted, not for the faint-hearted, I saw something special.
Residing from Sydney's roughest neighborhoods, Spanian sits and leaves no stone unturned - covering his childhood, when he first wrote his jail raps, tells us a story for the ages about how gave up Heroin cold Turkey, conspiracy theories, media and goes in on what it is to be Australian. He's trying to stay free and I hope you resonate with the honesty, not so much the content of music alone.
Spanian is an interesting human - one who speaks with conviction and passion. This was an absolute pleasure. We ate, he overloaded on coffees and spoke for almost 3 hours.

I’ve always watched interviews while I studied for exams during high school and now in university. This interview was such a breath of fresh air, no questions relating to drama, no bullshit, just insightful conversation AND 100% Australian made, now that’s a good as interview

Adrenalin with dev, respect doesnt say enough, this is one that will stand time in my world. strong combo, lyrics and for me the best was all the references, its rare that relevent lyrics and humour come together and still work. big heath fire in the booth is another with similar approach, done well and comes to you, adrenaline puts you there.

Before I watched the vid I read comments like this and was laughing at them thinking "how could a povo crim be intelligent and knowledgable". But wow after watching it he really is very in tune with the world around him and wise.

Mate. I am 40+. Grew up in Glebe and Ultimo in the 90s listening to Wutang, Gravediggaz, Killarmy and then Army of Pharoahs. (and metal!) Spanian made me get back into rap. The best Lyricist hands down. So good he is bringing this back. Big thanks.

Not sure how I came across the first 10 min of spanian talking about his hardest prison fight but immediately found him engaging. Looked him up some more and found this great interview, great questions and answers. Still haven't heard a song of his cos I'm not that into rap but it's very clear this guy has got something special about him. I'd imagine if he's handled by someone the right way big things are coming. Some people you can tell have just got it and he's got it! Best of luck

I believe Spanian could make Australia a better and more realistic place. He knows right from wrong, he can spell help evenly to the poor, middle and upper class and give fair play.

I was writing complex extreme lyric in the late 80's early 90's in Extreme Metal, that shit was going on for ages before Rap, sociopolitical brutality.
Albums worldwide, influenced some of the biggest Metal bands in the world...Australian, back in the day we sent demos overseas that took a month to get to Swedwn or Sth America, no internet, fuckin snail mail and word of mouth.
I'd love to have come up in todays climate.
