Thanks for all the videos, been slowly going through and fixing all the problems in the house using your videos as a reference, they have been an invaluable tool, much appreciated.
*Thank you* Bill. It's all really simple once you know how. It's like the joke about the person charging *$1,000* to fix a machine by spending *5 seconds* tapping it on the side with a plastic hammer. Costing was *$0.50c* for the tap and *$999.50* acquiring the knowledge on where to tap and how much force to use. Hope you and your family had an enjoyable day off on Wednesday. *Thank you* for all your helpful videos this year especially the ones that showed me how to fix the holes in plasterboard, cracks in plasterboard and the easy way to clean paint rollers. I think you did a couple on caulking and applying silicone but the old brain decided it wants a break now. Have a great New Year Bill. 👍
Great video. I’ve only an issue with the seat damping not working, the lid is fine. Is it easy to see which piston controls which function before I start trying to sort mine out?
Nice presentation using a table. Question: how to fix a toilet seat lid/cover that snaps back to the tank when you get off from the seat? Thanks. Hope for your kind reply. New here. Liked & Subscribed.
Ta - but not same piston unit. The one I have (just fixed) is all metal enclosed - at one end it’s hard plastic that fits into a housing. What I decided to do was to use a heat gun to heat up the metal housing / couple of spanner’s required to turn innards over & over again to rework the grease as it was very stiff. Squirt of wd40 too / prob didn’t make too much diff - but anyhows - got it to move a bit more freely. It’s a bit of a pain but saves £150 replacement of this particular upmarket seat. Previous barrels replaced were £80 - they tend to last around 7 years.
I'm not going to fix mine because soft-close lids close too slowly for my liking, and I initially found myself slamming other people's toilet lids because I expected it to soft-close!
I have a 'soft close' toilet seat that I recently replaced a normal close seat with. What I have wondered ever since I have had it is WHY? What possible benefit is a 'soft close' seat over a normal close seat? In my circles people do not 'slam' toilet seats, but close them in an appropriate manner. I see no benefits at all.

You’re very welcome, I’m glad the videos have been helpful and saving people money👍👍👍
Thank you👍👍👍
Bill, I’m of the school to repair rather than replace (old guy) so I appreciate your videos. Cheers!

Ah, mystery solved! Thanks
You’re welcome 👍
Excellent video mate. Is damping grease is just silicone grease?
Silicone grease is more used as a lubricant rather than for friction. Damping grease is best for slowing or controlling motion👍
How did you know! My ensuite has started slamming and sometimes in the middle of the night I forget :)
Now you have a way to repair it or even better to Replace it with a fresh new one 👍👍
Thank you.
Good on ya mate, thanks... ;)
I needed this right now. Cheers

Thanks for the video, the only trouble is, the seat goes down slowly but the lidsmashes down unless we hold it. Any suggestions please ?
One piston will control the lid and one will control the seat👍
👍
Would this be similar to the soft close kitchen cupboards
Do we have these seats in the u.k.
How would this translate to those single button release seats? 🤔
The seat piston; that’s what my wife complains about. 😅
Mine too, despite plenty of dampening grease, apparently the piston is still way too tight 😊
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I came for constructive comments, and what do I get ? . Smut pure smut 🤣🤣
@ You must be relieved.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Bill, how to stop the seat of the soft close toilet seat from sliding when I’m sitting down. I can’t tighten it anymore
Hi, I have a video on my channel showing how to fix this issue 👍
@ thanks
How do you put it back on the Toilet? Mine came off.

Ripper! Hopefully solves the issue ... now just gotta find some dampening grease.
I followed your instructions but still couldn’t get the top lid to close softly. Any others suggestions please🙏
Damping grease... out of stock on Amazon Australia. Ebay has a huge range of types and prices. Any suggestions?
Hi, I just checked the links and says they are in stock 👍
@@billshowto I'm a dill. I checked Amazon Australia with my US street address. All OK when I use my AU address. Thanks for your speedy reply.
You’re welcome 👍

Damping grease, not dampening. You don't want it wet!
My lids close rather too slowly. I now have some idea how to speed things up.
I'm not going to fix mine because soft-close lids close too slowly for my liking, and I initially found myself slamming other people's toilet lids because I expected it to soft-close!
When visiting someone, the slamming toilet seat reminds them to fix or replace their toilet seat.
Ou can adjust it to make it close a little faster
What is dampening grease ? Never heard of it ! Do you mean Vaseline?
What greese will I use?
Damping grease. Links in the description 👍
