Thanks for reacting to this fantastic band! They deserve a lot more exposure.
BTW, Kalandra is the name of the band. Katrine Stenbekk is the singer. She has quickly become one of my favorite singers. She's amazing and always puts on a great live performance too. But the rest of the band (including a new permanent drummer) is also great.
I *highly* recommend "Slow Motion" live from Gildehallen, if you really want to hear some crazy vocals from Katrine!

    Close your eyes and sleep
Ignore all the burdens that you keep
    Come whatever may
They could never harm you anyway
    Stirrings in the wind
    Resonates a whisper from within
    Warnings from afar
Telling you to heed the morning star
    Waking from the dream
Witnessing the smoke that's rolling in
The end is what you fear
The scent of embers lingers in the air
It's like a web there is no escape from
It's got you trapped and you long for freedom
Every wish every dream was granted
    Never knowing what they demanded
You see the wall how it's getting higher
You want to fight but you're all divided
It's not a world anyone can thrive in
Is this the world we were meant to grow in?
Somebody tell me where are we going?
A brave new world will rise
If we do not act upon its lies
    Hold your tongues no more
Learn from all the ones who came before
Catch the wind and fight the storm
Through the fury we're holding on
Take your time but not too long
Make it worth the time you own
You woke a fire inside of me
Fanned the flame and made it breathe
You woke a fire inside of me
    Inside of me
    Inside of me

Watching different people experience this band and there’s always a pause of stunned silence before they speak, there’s so much to take in, it’s like an assault on the senses.

Spotify suggested Kalandra to me a year or so ago. I really love this music.

Great reaction. The song was inspired by the Aldous Huxley novel of the same name. Kalandra is the name of the band. Katrine (pronounced Katreena) Stenbekk is the singer, who also does solo work and collaborations with other artists. She also briefly joined Norwegian cultural project band Wardruna to help out with backing vocals on their live ‘First Flight of the White Raven’ album. Kalandra have to date produced only one studio album but lots of great tracks on that, and there are also a couple of great freestanding covers from them. The live performance of ‘Slow Motion’ has already been mentioned as a recommendation, but you should also listen to ‘Borders’ and their brilliant cover of Wardruna’s ‘Helvegen’, which I prefer to the Wardruna/Aurora version. Actually, I prefer Katrine’s singing voice to Aurora’s most days of the week.

It's not George Orwell, it's Aldous Huxley's Brave new World and yes, this song is based on that book. I love Kalandra. Besides Aurora, they are one of my favs. Great Band.

@@nickforell1 I can totally see why you thought of Orwell. His book "1984" is along the same lines as Brave New World. I can see how you would make that mistake. I'm sure many people do.

The brave new world is not what we want. Once you have read the lyrics you will understand the meaning.
This band stands with the rest of humanity. Unlike a lot of pop stars I could think of.

They may not get you tonnes of views I’m afraid.. but I just wanted to see the look on your face when you heard her voice.
Borders would be an awesome music video to check out. Stunning!

Thank you for reacting to Kalandra. They don't get anything near the recognition they deserve. ' Grizzly Man' and 'Slow Motion' are good enough but 'Waiting Game' and 'Borders' are epic. You might want to leave Borders til last but it's your call and your channel.

Hello, Nick! I'm so excited that you've discovered Kalandra as well 🙂 It is one of my favorite bands in this genre. I'll just throw in a suggestion for my personal favorite by them, even though it's not their own song. Exactly 6 years ago they performed at SOFAR (SOngs From A Room). They performed a cover of Rockettothesky's "Grizzly Man", and the whole thing is just beautiful 🙂
I'll try to drop the link, and see if it stays : ruclips.net/video/amfxIHAvCY8/видео.html Have a great weekend, buddy! Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
