Kind of crazy timing with this video. I spotted one of their 777’s stop for fuel one night at my local US airport then got up early this morning to watch it depart. It was it’s last flight as it is getting scrapped.
The issue of Aviation in India is a loop. People here in India don't prefer to travel in Indian Flights due to bad condition, service, flight destinations. That makes the operators to cut cost to lure people. Since they cut cost they also cut the service provided, destination flown and other conditions. Either ways, it affects one another. Another issue is Low Cost Carrier which has significantly affected air travel and made full service airlines cut cost as well as service. And then there are some bad decisions from the company too.
India never had flying culture. It was always considered a rich peoples thing Majority of the customers are first time flyers. Travelling is still majorly done by trains and only advantage flying has is with the time. This is where indigo wins
Two words: Very Informative. Seriously though, I remember when Etihad invested in them and even flew on a "Jetihad" plane once! Fascinating look at their downfall. I hope you continue this series! Maybe you can do Thomas Cook next? @adventurousness
Jet was almost a low-cost international carrier by 2017. My experience flying from Mumbai to Delhi was horrible: cramped seats, no meals, and average overall service. When the airline shut, there were rumors that Goyal was paid by a certain middle eastern airline to ensure jet went bankrupt to ensure more slots and business for the middle eastern carrier.
Another thing you forgot to mention was the purchase of 10 B777-300ERs in 2005 which was the main reason behind accumulation of the debt. They simply didn't have any justification in the Indian market and the airline struggled to even find proper routes for those aircraft . Thus , many times you might have seen them flying for Etihad etc. Moreover, those aircraft could not fly non stop from India to US which was a severe competitive disadvantage for Jet. At a time when Delta, Continental(pre merger) , and Air India were flying non stop , Jet Airways had to fly via Brussels.
I remember this, as I flew several times on Jet Airways 777-300ERs from Newark to Brussels to Chennai (or maybe Bangalore)... Which aircraft type did Delta, Continental and Air India use at the time to be able to make the nonstop flight from the US to India? And why couldn't Jet Airways do the same with their 777-300ERs?
