As an American pool player (and a huge fan of both pool and snooker), I was surprised that the topic of the pocket structure was not addressed. On an American pool table, the pointed pockets are so much more receptive of the balls when they are being shot from near the rail. In pool, those are relatively simple shots. In snooker, players will try to develop a ball that is on the rail or simply play safe because the precision level needed to pot a ball is so high in snooker due to the rounded corners. I thought that would've come up at some point.

I don't know anything about snooker or pool, but from an engineering standpoint a carbon cue will always be a massively more stiff cue. When designed and made properly of course. But like for like it will deflect far less under any circumstance, it will be lighter, and it will retain more of the energy after a hit or deflection. I assume only the initial deflection is really a positive there but I don't know the sport. But carbon fiber is one of the best materials to use for stiffness - you can almost think of it like glass in that it refuses to bend and will crack first. In reality there's more nuance, but it's a good start as to what makes carbon so popular in many products compared with fiberglass, plastic, metal or other options.
