My favourite short story, thanks so much for putting the whole story up and not in parts, appreciate it, Salem's lot would have been my favourite book as a teenager, still read it from time to time!!
Have you ever listened to the BBC dramatisation of Salem's Lot? It's excellent and there are uploads of it here on RUclips. I've listened to it several times.
I remember working in the Wirral and the local library was Bebington and I got this out on cassette in the 1980s. That’s how old the story is and it was read by the inimitable Ed Bishop. And this is the very same story and the writer.Thank you so much for uploading.
I didn’t get to it quite so early, although I have been a Constant Reader for 40 years. This recording hella grabbed me; so well voiced, much appreciated.
I listen to this over and over and over. I really don’t know why it brings me peace I listen to it before I go to sleep I think it’s because it brings me back to the day of Old.
There are plenty of versions of narration for this story, but this is hands down the BEST. and thr same goes for the story on Jerusalem's origin story. And the book of the worm.
As a kid I loved horror films. Mom used to worry about it. Salem's Lot was the only one that came close to scaring me. I still love that film and the book.
I just finished the Salem's Lot audiobook (not for the first time!) and immediately came to listen to this. King has ruined fiction for me... I can't listen to anyone else's work with as much enjoyment!
@naomyramsey3643 dean Koontz is okay in small doses. King once said(probably talking about koontz) I like to write about normal people in extraordinary circumstances. Other writers like myself like to write about extraordinary people in ordinary circumstances. Koontz's characters seem to almost be interchangeable and he tends to use cheap story telling tactics, such as shock value. Maybe Koontz has changed, I haven't picked up a new dean Koontz book in over 10 years. One of my biggest annoyances from him was the main character being wealthy. Inheritance, the lottery, inventing something, if it could further the plot, boom, they're rich.
@@naomyramsey3643 dean koontz is amazing too, he barely level with king with his fast paced stories and storytelling... so if your dazed with stephen kings spells i recommend to read koontz to break it out of it ( break out of it a little bit because theres no really a complete escape from SK)
Driving through country roads of Lincolnshire, the trees were resplendent with dew. Spalding was in my rear view mirror on my way to Boston. Boston was my destination at this time, the women, the spirit. I admit, I’m a person who likes to kill. The smell of blood and fear is enticing and my thoughts move to weakness. Driving through the streets of Boston, the stump to my left, I saw her. My 34th since my Skegness days. I cut her gullet to ass, she felt nothing, nothing I tell ya. I left, I fled. Grimsby is my only way out. Where do I go? My next chippy ………..
Back in the '80s there was a box set of stories from Night Shift on cassettes. This story was read by Colin Fox and very well. I'd love to be able to find it again in digital format.
A prologue introduction for the main story in Salem's Lot. If you want to crap your pants in horror. Read that book late at night. When you're by yourself. You'll want to sleep with a Crucifix for safety.
Yep! Fantastic, right? Even the best AI readings are weird and can’t get the inflections or sounds right. Makes me appreciate this even more. Good old fashioned voice talent is rare these days.
People lost in a snow storm/ blizzard hunted by vampires reminds of 30 days of night. They even had a little vampire girl. Perhaps the graphic novel was inspired by this tale.
The wind was whirling and the snow was curling around the arms of the bare trees. Headlights in the distance A muffled footstep to my right reminded me that Saul, my friend hadn’t left the Old Testament. An owl sounded from the birch forest. A snake Saul said. I offered him an apple and he called me a philistine. I looked East for the next 2000 years.. Fin
So good! AI voices can’t hold a candle to this type of classic narration!
A lot of King’s anthologies have really good audiobook versions.
@@crispindry2815this is vintage. Neatoh 😂
totally agree. this narrator really feels like he's telling me a story
💯 there is nothing like a good human reader !
I detest A.I. voices.
AI is getting better by the day.
It's only a question of time.
I'll always listen to anything from S King. What a master storyteller!

Can this story be found on cd? If so where?
I was born in the early 80s and I can’t get enough of this stuff. Almost as good as reading a book.😅

I remember reading it in my teens (nearly 65 now) on the beach in broad daylight. I had to put the book down I was terrified! Salems Lot that is.

When I die and meet Jesus, I hope the dude shows up in a chariot driven sidecar! 🏍️😇
Heard a shamelessly plagiarized version of this short story by a creepy pasta RUclipsr. Nice to hear the original with a great narration.
One For The Road [Tookie's Bar] "Pick me up Mister. I want to give you a kiss. Then you can bring me to my Mommy."
Reminds me of Anne Rice's Claudia.
It reminds me of Salem's Lot.
Thank you!
Wrong images when they show the large flat-screen TV over the bar and the modern era car dash. This is supposed to be set in the 1970s.
