I have a few additions... #1, squad arena currency was removed from daily rewards. That's a feel-bad, especially for players who *aren't* in the top 50 of their squad arena. It's a mostly inconsequential reward for developed accounts, but for the early-game when you need to unlock all of these characters from that store as well, that's a huge increase in the time it'll take to get that done. #2, the shift from 2/week GC's to tying 70% of the rewards to dailies and quests means that anyone who's not playing daily, or misses a day or two from something irl, gets penalized way more than they would in the old system. Since GC's run for 3 days, you could do it on day 1 and forget about it, or you could do it on day 3. - I think the best way to fix this, is to build some leeway into the point totals, maybe by 10%, so the average player has a much easier time completing the track (I think it'll be a huge feel-bad at the end of this month, when 80% of the f2p playerbase doesn't even complete the reward track) It would also go a long way for public sentiment, if CG were to actually increase the rewards for players. The last few months have been, honestly, an onslaught of poorly-received changes, that overshadow the positive changes CG is making. It's a very easy system to tune, but I really think that just tweaking the daily quest reward chest by adding: 200 squad arena currency 500 episode points would be enough of a change.
So I’m a casual player and I had to look up what the hell was happening when the update happened. I feel like I’m being punished for not being on this game 24/7. I used to be able to quickly log in and quickly do my daily tasks to get my rewards, but now it’s a complete chore to do them. And now I’m spending more energies and gem than I ever have to since I started playing the game.
Perfectly explained Egnards! Its the psychological perception that as a player your not making a lot of progress daily, and so you feel pushed into buying the pass or buying Huyang shards to get more quests done, I think that's where the outrage and frustration is coming from. The rewards will be there at the end of the month but early on in the reward track it feels like we're already behind, it creates the FOMO mentality straight away which feels like a cheap tactic to encourage spending. They need to change the updating feats ticker things after battles as you said but also remove the little red dot which says you have a completed quest that needs claiming only to find that feat can't be claimed because you haven't bought the pass or got enough Huyang shards.
I think you are forgetting to considder the new shop currency, which is key to earning the rewards we had before. In a f2p scenario, you earn very little due to the restructure of the gc mainly. You just wont be able to get everything. And to add an aspect of the "bad feeling", is the fact that we have to play EVER day, without exception, else we fall behind on the track right away. Its kinda stressful to never be able to take a day off.
I’m not forgetting the shop, I did a full analysis on the shop a few days previously [it’s on Reddit], though I will agree there is more pressure to be forced to log in everydayz
I love the points you make since you were able to put into words what I've been feeling about the update, definitely doesn't feel as good to play and it wouldn't make me feel good to give them money for it, the main thing I found was the GCs since now it's like I'm scavenging the few f2p feats there are and hoping I can scrap together enough to do it whereas before it felt like I was able to properly experiment and use my whole roster to get as far as possible. Great video and great solutions you proposed.
I completely agree with the take. Rewards wise, it isn't bad, probably even an improvement to before. But the constant reminder of feat progress plopping up on feats that you cannot claim, the battle pass that visualizes exactly where you are in terms of spending and even the price of the pass (2 passes of $20 if we include conquest is something that other mobile games won't do)...all this makes the game feel so bad psychologically. Much worse than it actually is.
And still no sign of the Jar Jar event doesn't make me and quite a few other players positive towards CG either. Gungans are important for time-sensitive content.
So my issue is two fold. 1, I’m not saying that it’s impossible to keep loot parity from the old to new system, however subjectively, it FEELS as if it’s going to take a lot more conscious effort to make it. You appear to be penalized a LOT more penalized for not logging in everyday. My other issue is that this was pitched to us as a QoL change when there’s been no QoL changes. None of the sim changes are here, they took a previously simple part of the game and made it complicated, and added a bunch of visual indicators of how P2W the game is becoming. They’re not even trying to creatively hid it anymore This whole update just FEELS bad and when you’re dealing with a player base that feels like all that’s been happening is being squeezed tighter, it’s not surprising for this level of backlash. Morale in my guild is at an all time low, people are feeling the squeeze, I myself are questioning why I’m playing this. I want to spend less time in this game and more time to do other things. We will see what happens but I’ve decided I’m not spending a dime on this game going forward. I loved light speed bundles and have bought a lot of them, but I don’t feel like my time is being respected by the game and I can’t support it anymore.
I do most definitely agree with the critique that this new system more greatly punishes people who may not be able to get to their phone for a period of 24 hours [or more], which is something I hadn't considered until earlier today when someone brought that up with me on Discord.
This is how I feel. The update is making me feel like I’m being penalized for being a casual player. I was able to slowly build up my roster with the old game and now I feel like I’m going to be left in the dust with this update.
Thanks for bringing the logic. After all, emotions are the path to the dark side. I do have a simple philosophy: never ascribe to malice what can easily be explained by incompetence 😂
I actually think it’s far more calculated than that - Players hate change, CG knows that - by releasing this, and then fixing it. . .we are more likely to happily accept it. We shall see!
So hey, I know this sounds like an egregious exaggeration, but something you said kind of struck a chord, I guess. I'm paraphrasing, but the whole "they'll release something that sucks with a mea culpa prepared and a feel-good patch ready to deploy" ... isn't that just the same as an abuse pattern?
You said during the 3Scoundrels podcast that the first month would be a dumpster fire and then there would be corrections. Honestly that perspective has kind of kept me calm through this entire change.
I completely agree with your analysis. People are going crazy over nothing. I would red crate 1/4 times and then gold crate or less for the other 3. I'm going to get to box 43 to get the last omicron. So I might just make out even better than in the old system.
Utterly disagree! Getting extra garbage does not improve the analysis. I could get at least 1 omicron per challenge. This analysis also makes bad assumptions because they took a complete feat away. That was insane because you don't get rewards for beating all levels anymore. That's about 2 to 4 missing crates that is ignored here.

Sub 85s still get arena tokens from dailies

Awesome breakdown egg... appreciate it... this is Enigma btw...

No you are not! He is!
I do not think they will change anything significantly.
In a few weeks the "storm" is over and back to business...as usual.
Great video! I ran the numbers too, and for both of my F2P accounts, they are going to be seeing drastically increased rewards.

@Egnar totally agree that time will tell. Once people have spent time with it and if changes are made, then hopefully, things will feel better.

Not necessarily a disagreement, but I do think that it's less a "CG is abusing us" as it's a "the whole business sector is abusing us."
@@Egnar I wish I disagreed with you, but at the end of the day I think you're right. Not to say the whole industry is like that, but... damn.

We will definitely see it addressed by the end of the episode.
